well, ive been looking into this game lately and i must say that i am very impressed. ive read a few convos here in CoN of people mentioning the greatness of this rare gem. from what ive read on lots of sites, this game is quite awesome. i wanna play it pretty freakin bad, but i know its hard to come by. ive checked ebay for the past week or so, but a used copy usually goes for around 60 bucks plus about 5-10 bucks shipping on average. the bidding is pretty damn competitive! anyways, since ive been thinkin about this game so much lately i searched for it on the gamestop/EB games website.

there dont seem to be any used copies near here sad.gif apparently a new sealed Valkyrie Profile can go for 100 bucks sometimes. well, ive managed to track down a couple of used copies at a gamestop about 75 miles from here at school. i was just wonderin what my CoN homies think about this; should i make the trip to get the game (it would cost about 60 bucks), ebay it, or perhaps wait until Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is released?

i dont have a psp, but my lil bro does, and if push comes to shove, i can overpower him and jack the psp to play Lenneth.

any recommendations? thanx a lot in advance smile.gif

Valkyrie Profile was an awesome RPG and I really enjoyed it. All good RPGs released on the PSX are starting to cost their weight in gold.

A good thing to do if you want older PSX games that arent in stores anymore, is go to a video rental place and see if they have a 'for sale' section. A lot of times you can find those games there for far cheaper than on ebay or at GameStop or EB. The only thing is the discs might have some damage because they've been around the block a few times, make sure they resurface it before you buy it.

You may want to wait for Lenneth, as it'll have cut-scenes that'll tie in to Silmeria and special little CG cut-scenes. Other than that, it looks the same. (That's a good thing.) I really do hope they have a few new VAs though...

Although, if you do have $150-$200 you can get one used off of Amazon. Really, it doesn't make sense to pay like $400 to get the same thing in a sealed case. I got mine in two jeweled cases, and it's the same game. I figured out how to play myself.

As for pros and cons about the game:

Pros:

- Combines platforming and a blend of sort-of real time sort-of turn based battle system

-Excellent story, if you get the A Ending

-tri-Ace post game goodies

-Sakuraba soundtrack, of course

-Lezard

-Surprisingly complex dungeons, for a platformer anyway

Cons:

-Very linear gameplay, a 'go from point A to B' adventure. The story is great, but the game pretty much tells you where to go. (You don't have to go everywhere, but
-Some puzzles may be really hard or impossible to do without an faq

-You may not get the real ending the first time through

-Some VAs are totally innapropriate. Not like games usually have grade A actors for 'em, but some of these are just totally innapropriate.

-Unless you play on Hard, it really isn't a good experience (you can't get the treasures or bonus characters in the bonus dungeon, among others)

-'Hard mode' isn't really more difficult, it just has extra dungeons with frustrating puzzles. And, above.

That's all I can think of for now. So basically, if you have a little money saved up, it's pretty easy to find it online. That's not to say it's impossible to find it used in a game store, but you'd have to be pretty lucky to find it that way.

Tips: Do not bid for it. I mean, if you actually have that kind of money to throw around, be my guest. But some bidders are just crazy. Try buying it used from Amazon. (Or other similar online used stuff sites.)

Play on Hard.

Get the A Ending, or try to on your first time through. The story just sucks without it.

Become a Lezard fanboy. (But hate his english VA.) tongue.gif

But if you want to play it safe, you can wait for Lenneth.

I for one, will get Silmeria when it comes out.

I mean, if you have $100 or so, then go right ahead. But if you're patient, then go ahead and wait for Lenneth. Besides, some of those cut-scenes look sweet, and Silmeria just looks gorgeous.
