This was one persons top ten list on Game FAQs
in short it is: 10.Fire Emblem:Blazing Sword 9.FFVI 8. Earthbound 7.Tales of Symphonia 6.Disgaea:Hour of Darkness 5.Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow 4.FFIV 3.Dragon Warrior 2.FFVII 1.FFT His list made some sense to me, but I would probably do some switching. He notes that Chrono Trigger and Kindgom Hearts make honorable mentions, but I would probably take Fire Emblem off (love it, but not top 10 material for me). Other changes would happen too. I've never played #s 7,6, or 1, si I can't comment on those -------------------- |

That's Ulty's list. The only lists of top RPGs that they published were Ulty's and AIex's, because those two guys have more Karma than the frickin' Buddha. It's only the opinion of one forumgoer on a gaming site, why does it get its own topic?

I mean, at least I somewhat know the people who post random lists here, even if I don't care about the lists themselves. I don't see why this is relevant to any non-GameFAQs fan or even probably most of the fans. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I would've done quite a lot of switching. For instance, even though I wasn't too much of a fan of FF7, there's hardly any doubt that it enjoyed enough success and popularity to hit position #1. And that the original DW would make it there without the original FF? A little surprising. DW definately had more popularity than FFI did in Japan, but the fact remains FFI is one of the bigger milestones in western console roleplaying. Definately more popular than IV (which, frankly, was leagues below VI in terms of success and popularity - even though personally I liked it more
![]() Overall, it's just the list of some guy nobody quite cares about or knows, like R-51 said. So... what's the deal? Is there something about this guy we should know, like him working for some gaming mag or whatnot? Or is it just a glimpse into someone's preferences? I mean, it's cool and all, but I'm not sure I see the relevance, that's all... (PS: Hey guys, this RuneLancer fellow ranted about martinis and olives on the Endless Saga message boards! I was going to start a thread about it, but I got too lazy and felt it had its place here anyhow. ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 27th April 2006 00:58 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Haven't played Symphonia or the first Dragon Warrior (yes, it's a blemish on my record), but I think the list is kind of generic myself, even with FFT crowned at number one. Glad that Pokemon got a little spotlight for its relatively decent RPG format it has, but I guess the list was mostly written by the time he wrote the topic. I definitely wouldn't have put Disgaea or FF7 on it, because "best" to me doesn't include anything regarding popularity or impact thereof. Guess that could differ, though.

My top ten would be like: 10. Dragon Quest V 9. Super Mario RPG 8. Terranigma 7. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 6. Brave Fencer Musashi 5. Final Fantasy Tactics 4. Secret of Mana 3. Shining Force II 2. Final Fantasy VI 1. Breath of Fire II -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. i can't believe A Link to the Past didn't make the top 10
apparently he must not count Zelda games as RPGs, however I do here is my list 10 FFIV 9 FFVI 8 Chrono Trigger 7 Earthbound 6 Super Mario RPG 5 FFVII 4 FFIX 3 Ocarina of Time 2 FFT 1 A Link to the Past Edit No, it doesn't really matter. the top 10 list from gamefaqs is that guys personal top 10. If anyone was to actually get reasonable data for a top 10 games they would have to include it in a nationwide census, but I could just imagine millions of citizens going WTF? Shining Force II 2. Final Fantasy VI 1. Breath of Fire II Heh, I'm still surprised that people like Secret of Mana that much. Anyway, I'd say that that GameFAQs list misses a bunch of very prominent and well-respected RPGs, including Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. Additionally, I don't think Earthbound really belongs there; while it's a great game, it's not one of the best. I also dispute Pokémon RBY, despite my being a Pokémon fan. If anything, it should be Pokémon GSC, and it shouldn't be above FFVI. Pokémon RBY was solid, but nowhere near that great. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I still don't understand why we should care about the opinion of one semi-prominent Gamefaqs user, but I'll be a sheep and post my RPG top ten as well. By the way, Castlevania and Zelda games aren't RPGs. Period. My list is far from absolute, given my tendencies to never make lists like these the same way twice.
10. Dragon Quest VIII (I know it's recent, but this game really made a great impression on me) 9. Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber 8. Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals 7. Final Fantasy VII 6. Tales of Phantasia 5. Seiken Densetsu III 4. Final Fantasy Tactics 3. Final Fantasy VI 2. Skies of Arcadia 1. Chrono Trigger -------------------- |

Wild ARMs: Alter Code F. It's a fairly extensive PS2 remake of the original Wild ARMs for the Playstation. Evidentally it's Goz's eighth favorite RPG of all time.

Quote 10.Fire Emblem:Blazing Sword 9.FFVI 8. Earthbound 7.Tales of Symphonia 6.Disgaea:Hour of Darkness 5.Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow 4.FFIV 3.Dragon Warrior 2.FFVII 1.FFT Honestly, I think that this is a pretty not terrible list. I'm happy that both final fantasy tactics and Tales of Symphonia got some attention, but I would definately change some stuff. First and foremost, switch out Fire Emblem, and replace it with advance wars. Next, switch out Disgaea and put in Super mario RPG. SWitch ToS and Dragon Warior. Hmmm... if it werent for nostalgia, I would take pokemon and Earthbound out... eh, whatever. Put Kingdom Heats in place of pokemon. Maybe switch around a bit in the top 4... I loved the hugeness of FFT, but FFVII was much more compelling (so was FFIV, and the first RPG i ever played...), but overall, i think that would be good. I think that list is pretty fair to be honest, FFVII was great but all the fanboys are bringing it's reputation down. Tales of symphonia should of maybe been higher but meh, being on the Game Cube didn't do it any favours (I love my Game Cube it's my most played console).. Not too sure about Fire Emblem though? The harsh death system of that game really puts me off ever playing (I've played the first few mins of the one for SNES). I think Fire Emblem should be replaced with Chrno Trigger, if not higher, I have yet to really play FFIV, but recently I've had it imported from America (I live in England) and my snes is being modded soon so I should be able to play it, I've got it on PSX but the loading times put me off..

Pokemon is very definitely an RPG; it's a collectible-style strategy RPG. The Red/Blue/Yellow set wasn't the best (a lot of things were tweaked with and/or fixed for Gold/Silver/Crystal, including what I call "type dominance"), but it was definitely solidly designed. However, as I remarked above, they're not that great. Also, like laszlow, I do NOT consider the Zelda and Castlevania series games to be RPGs--Castlevania II (Simon's Quest) being a possible exception, for going into the subcategory "action RPG". 3/4 bird's-eye view doesn't automatically make something an RPG. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
