pretty simple. which do you prefer Cecil as: the dark knight of the shadow or the paladin of the light

Cecil the Paladin. A true hero, is what Cecil is and Paladinhood suits him well.

I prefer Cecil the Paladin. He gets White magic and his stats go through the roof. Hell, he even looks better. And the way the story portrays the Dark Knight, there's no way his character could develop and overcome the obstacles thrown in his way. IMO, it's better and in the game it's a necessity.

I liked him as a Dark Knight. Bah, Cecil as a Paladin was so lame. But, can't really blame HIM. FF4 as a whole was pretty predictable and cliched.

He was just a lot more interesting to me as a Dark Knight.

Dark Knight, I liked the way he looked, and his moves better. The only downside was the crappy damage to "evil" things.

Dark Knight was an excellent job class, and I often wonder why we don't see more of it.  (The most recent semi-PC to take up the dark sword was Gafgarion, and he doesn't really count all that much.)

Still, the Dark Knight just doesn't fit Cecil's personality.  Although I personally prefer  the Dark Knight class over the holier-than-thou, who-cares-about-subtletly-and/or-intelligence Paladin class, I really don't think the Dark Knight suits Cecil very well at all.  So in the end, I had to choose Paladin.

when Cecil was a dark knight, he was oozing with coolness-looking-ness. although he was a paladin inside, his dark knight form was coooooooooooooooooooool  :)

personally i liked Cecil much better when he was a dark knight, even though he was a lot weaker, but he had that bad ass air around him then...when he went paladin he sorta turned soft.......

I don't think Cecil was a good fit for the Dark Knight status...his attitude just wasn't fitting for the class because he always had reservations about what he was doing.  "omg i can't kill wizards."  "omg i can't kidnap the girl."  "omg i need to protect the crystal."  You aren't a Dark Knight if you can't kill and kidnap, pillage and plunder.

Neal i agree with you on that one, BUT when did he look better?!?!   When he was a dark knight right?   Most everything in the homosapien world is based on looks right?!  Who's the popular people in school? Good-looking people! What would you prefer, a beat-up Topaz or a brand new Dodge Viper? The Viper of course!!!!!  I just think that he looked better when he was a Dark Knight! When he went Paladin he looked all majestic like...like he wouldn't bother swatting a fly if he didnt have to!

The Dark Knight was less predictable, a little more original than a "holy knight". However, Paladin Cecil was much more powerful. And we're talking, MUCH more powerful here. White magic was quite useless on him, but it was better than Dark Wave, in my opinion, and Dark Wave wasn't even in FF2 US. So yeah, Paladin Cecil all the way. The whole "fight your old self" part was wonderful.

I think I have to agree with Neal. Yeah, Dark Knight Cecil looked cool (which is more important if you don't actually understand the concept of a story), but he wasn't really all that dark, was he?

Cecil wasn't happy as a DK because he didn't have the new doritos Salsa flavored chips. When he went to Ordeals he got some! Happy Paladin with Chips!

Getting to the point, the DK form was alright, but Paladin Cecils White magic wins him over. Cover was ok if you needed to protect Rydia while she sommoned, butThat was the only thing that compares with his dark. Of course, the DK in FFT had lots more fun stuff.

I prefer the Dark Knight he was cool, but when he was a Paladin he was pretty strong but his magics sucked.

I gotta agree with Neal and R51 on this one.
Preferred paladin simply because it fit better with his character.

aesthetically, I like the Paladin a whole lot better. But Cecil is my absolute favorite character from FF4, so I appreciate him in both forms ^^.

Cecil The Paladin all the way, Although he didn't look better, his stats were a lot better, and it fit him better, DK is more of an evil person's rank.

I'd have to say Paladin Cecil.... DK Cecil is quite cool, but it doesn't fit his personality well, and Paladin Cecil just has stats through the roof.

Cecil the Dark Knight! Unfortunately, we don't get to see much of him. Really, though, he -must- have liked being all evil and crap at one point in time, otherwise he wouldn't be the rank he is. Correct? It takes a truly cold hearted bastard to pick up them evil swords.  :nods:

Paladin. Dark Wave was nice (though I never used it until I played a ROM [heaven forbid!] of the hard type), but I was annoyed at the fact that I couldn't kill Zombie-like monsters with his sword. Taking off his sword in the middle of battle was a annoyance as well.

I found the Paladin's White Magic to be very useful in his early levels. Later on... heh... not really... but his Holy-element weapons are awesome! Better than their dark-counterparts...

And Paladin automatically covers weak characters! That's awesome and much better than having Dark Wave.

Oh, and remember? He became a Dark Knight because he was commanded to by the King.

Cecil The Paladin, coz it suits him better to be a warrior of light than to be a warrior of darkness. ^_^

Whether you were really serious or not...... there is so much more dynamic to the argument that you are trying to use there.  I've seen plenty of good-looking people be the least popular at schools and anywhere, because they didn't have the deeper goods to go with the looks.  It's a whole question of developmental theory and what makes people "likable".... is it really the looks or is it that the looks are a very large part of what may give a child the confidence at a young age that is very important in developing the types of interpersonal skills that make people "likable".  The car example.... I'd want a Viper because it tears up the road at the higher end of the 100 mile per hour mark and gets there just a few seconds.  If I had the choice between a beat up Topaz that drove like a Viper and a Viper that drove like a Topaz..... I think it would be AWESOME to cream people on the road in a beat-up Topaz  :p  .I always thought that Cecil was much cooler as a dark knight, but like a large portion of the other people who have responded to this have said, he just wasn't cut out for it.  The paladin style he takes up later in the game isn't as cool as the dark knight, but it's still super fly.  AND he has the new power and sense of righteousness to go with it.  Paladin Cecil all the way.

Hmm... IO enjoyed both forms of the hero Cecil. The dark knight form was great because it looks so cool! and because what is better than an attack that is like magic, doesn't use mp and hits all enemies? Its a retorical question so nevermind. And on to the paladin form, once again he looks really cool. He gets a holy sword that does 9999 damamge to all undead monsters at like level 30! Plus he can defend other charas in need of a littl extra time to heal themselves. Plus he can heal any character with a spell of heal or cure 2. so they are pretty well equal.

I preferred the Dark knight. HOnestly, Cecil may got more life when he is paladin, but only useful thing he has is "cover" skill and white magic is so weak taht it doesn't even help.
Even though dark knight has less life, he is still more defensive because he doesn't have to cover, and also has more defense. Also, i think he has higher attack...well it's all about weapons later though
