Um yeah...........this decision seems rather silly to me and rather than see it as an evolution, I see it as a de-evolution. I haven't looked at the new content but I think someone said that it was FFVIII content. Yeah so let's get down a section that's really good and really popular and replace it with a game that most people seem to hate. Um yeah great minds were at work here. You speak of different clientele and worry about the way the boards are moving. If you think that you had irritating fanboys for FFVII, think of what you will get with FFVIII. The blind Square is King fanboys that love FFVIII because square is da best and psx rulzzzzzzzzzzz. I predict that FFVIII will eventually come down in the same way and we'll be stuck with all the stuffy old school anything after VI is trash people that really need to explore games beyond the old school FF games and quit picking stuff apart and have fun.

Anyways, if this ain't an April Fool's joke, then I'm quite glad FFVII section slipped off CoN. I hated FFVIII, but atleast it will shorten the population of the fanboys worshiping FFVII.

By the way, you forgot to delete the old FFVII-related topics in the FFVIII forum =)

Who knows, maybe they should make one for FF IX instead of VIII, anyway, CoN game coverage of Final Fantasy is awesome, they should cover all FF from the PSone age, especialy IX, maybe the best FF of the PSone games, really.

As many in staff have stated, this was indeed an incredibly difficult decision to make, but it will make this site better by an order of magnitude. FFVII will always be very near and dear to us, and we do sincerely apologize for not having the section up to par with the rest of the site. The new section will indeed be much more in-depth and easy to use than FFVII was.

We know that many of you understand why we made this decision, as we have talked about it in chat for a while now, and we appreciate your ongoing support on it.

OK, for those of you that hadn't already caught on... yep, this was our April Fools present. Hard luck if you really wanted an FF8 section, but you should've known we wouldn't seriously put up something as incomplete as that was!

I hate hate hate hate hate Final Fantasy VIII. It's the only one I just couldn't bring myself to finish. FFVII...meh. It was an okay game.

I had to clear that up. I'm ashamed that people believed I would be happy with an FFVIII section. I'm also in favor of banning everyone who seriously thought this would be a good idea. Come on, guys. FFVIII? Ugh.

Well, even though some posts sound convincing, I don't think that the people posting here really believed that CoN was switching VII for VIII. It was a nifty prank, and the staffers sounded quite convincing, but come on. To be honest, I don't think any staff member here actually likes FF VIII. I certainly don't.

Well, a good deal of the staff really likes FF VII. Otherwise why would they have spent so much time and effort on such a quality online guide? (trust me, from what I understand however much effort you or I think they put into it, it was probably more).

I LOVE the FFVII guide, thank goodness it was a joke. I was actually sitting here waiting to find out for sure. FFVII might not be my favorite final fantasy game, but I still like it, and the guide is NUMBER ONE!

It was pretty obvious right from the start; I did the same to the Endless Saga betatesters (oops, they don't know yet !)

Gotta hand it to the mod team, that was a good prank. It should've been glaringly obvious that, on april first, R-51 (whom we all know loves FF8 so much!) ditching his site's most popular section to replace it with an FF8 section, means something fishy (lar~ pun!)'s up. To boot, the slightly blazé feel the page had ("Missing image - gonna put up a picture of Griever or something cool, lol!" ...close enough) isn't something you'd expect from CoN.

In the humble words of an ever-abused internet meme...

Also for the record, I loathe FF8 too, and it also is the only FF I couldn't bring myself to finish (along with FF2. I don't know why, probably the evolution system). I'm glad we got some people fooled, I really liked this idea of removing FF7 and replacing it with FF8.

It was a team effort, and we won. Staff ownz U.

I mean, I concede that the story line behind FF8 had some holes okay...it was little 'convenient' that they all knew each other, and whatnot ..but some of the gameplay innovations were nice, like the Draw ability, knocking out that pesky learning thing for a while, and the summons were awesome, i mean, Eden was a bad mofo. Sure Squall was nothin more than Vincent+Cloud, but it was a decent game and shouldn't be bashed so much. Let's keep an open mind people. Everybody doesn't like the same things and you could have a big bump in your membership if you included FF8 and FF9 ( even though I personally detest 9, I also finished that as that is what I do ). Just think about it. BTW great joke, hope too many people haven't gone and jumped off a bridge or sumthin(Hamedo...are you still there?) and will go down as one of the best I've seen in the last few years.

Don't worry; you missed the near-nothingness that was on those pages. Each of them said "Content coming soon!" or something like that (occasionally page-specific such as "Fanart coming soon!", I think). There was absolutely no real content on any page, except possibly the FFVIII main page, which had like two sentences of commentary about the game and a screenshot.
