Edge's main problem for me is his lack of Magic Defense. I get hit by one of those "Blitz" attacks by a King Ryu in the Lunar Subterrane, and it doesn't matter what level Edge is. He dies.

Too bad Shurikens are expensive as they are. Square cheated us and made them expensive, so Edge couldn't stock up on them and throw stuff and hang out in the back row.

As a character, he's probably one of my favorites, though. Too bad he dies way too often. He's FFIV's Sabin. -CSM

Also he gets elemental spells that are a little (and only a little) less effective than the lv3 elemental spells. I always use these to waste less tough enemies instead wasting the mp of my better spellcasters.

Especially against those pudding monsters.

I've (definitely) noticed he steals better at higher level. (He's at level 99 now.) What determines his steal success? I've heard higher levels, agility, etc. Does anyone know?  eh.gif

It's difference in agility. Cast Haste on Edge or Slow on the monster and the success rate will go up

I didn't like Edge. He's not my least favorite and he's not that special to me.

Pros:
-The only character in FFIV that can actually steal and he is able to steal unlimited items even from just one monster in one battle.

-Highest agility (although Cain was quite close too).

-Uses double weapons.

Cons:
-He's an asshole attitude-wise. I wouldn't wanting him being a stereotypical cliched emotionless Ninja either, but atleast someone mature enough to stop goofing off. He reminds me of Zell from FFVIII.

-His Ninja Magic was useless because it dealt around less than 800 IIRC.

-He cannot throw anything except for his weapons and some of the best weapons.

Edge...
Pro's.
1: Can use smoke, which uses less MP then Exit and has the same effect (in battle).
2: He's Ambidextrous, so it doesn't matter which hand you put his best weapon in.
3: He is fast.
Con's.
1: He only fancies Rydia because she's in the group and not taken.
2: He's not strong.
3: He's far too headstrong.

of course since there are no such things as Fuma shurikens, which can be purchased during the game. Edge can only throw the best weapons in the game and his own weapons

I"d like to see some proof to that one. It seemed more to me that he fancied Rydia because he thought she was hot.

Pros
-Ambidexterous
-can cast haste on himself
-high agility and speed
-has spells that increase his evasion
-smoke
-can throw fuma shurikens for great damage
-can steal

Cons
-Low magic defense
-Comes at a level lower than your characters

When I was playing 8 I thought Irvine was a cheap half-@$$ed attempt at another Edge. I don't see any resmeblance of personality between Edge and Zell

I got the opinion that he only fancied Rydia because she was available because of
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
the part of the story after Rosa and Rydia are left on the planet, before the guys go to face Zemus, and as soon as they arrive on the moon, they discover that the girls have snuck on. Edge say's "Aw, where's my love?".

That sentance, in my opinion, is a very good sign that he fancies Rydia because she's there, even if it just means that he would have said it anyway.
Also, consider that both have been in the group for a while, so that in a realistic world, it would be very easy for Edge to develop feelings for Rydia even if she wasn't hot.

Well, I hate to sound like a total pervert, but we are given indications that Rydia is indeed hot when she rejoins the party. Cecil says something akin to "how could that little girl turn into such a beautfiul woman so quickly?" or something. I see what you mean, though, his feelings might be brought along by something other than hotness, because they have been saving the world on the same team for some time now.

Edge is not a bad character, I will admit he does have low defence, but he makes up for that becasue he is fast, plus he has Ninja spells one for each of the fire, ice, and bolt. Against groups of enemys that are weak against one of those he can be of a big help. The throw command allows him to easily deal max damage. Anyone who hates Edge just must not know how to use him.

Edge may bite the dust in most battles at lower levels but at least he soaks up damage that could go to other characters.

Edge is also great because he's not some dumb beat stick, it takes preperation *snicker cough* A lot of leveling up *cough* and some strategy to use him effectively.

his attitude is awful though I must agree with that.

Edge is my favorite character, besides Rydia. I think all the FFs need at least ONE ladies man (Edge, Edgar, Irvine, Brother, I guess Seymour could count >.>).

Oh, and Edge is my main weapon against Zeromus. He can use that Spoon item, and throw multiple Excaliburs at Zeromus. Although he can't survive more than two Big Bangs and needs to be healed often, he was still much more useful than Cecil, Kain, and Rydia (in my opinion.) smile.gif

Fast Ninja/Thief characters are usually my favorites for some reason. I love their weapons and steathly appearance.

I dunno... he's a pain in the butt... once he gets hit with two spells he's down... I usually keep him there until they're about to die, just so he levels up.

I COULD hate him, but his name is Edge! EDGE! Who dosn't like that name?

I don't.

For that matter, interestingly, his "real" name is "Edward Geraldine", from which he derives "Edge" as his nickname. Whee, two princes named Edward on your side. And both of them with less-than-decent defense.

Actually, if I recall correctly, Edward (the Bard) had better magic defense, and had Song, which would be more useful if your party already has a good attack power.

Actually, it's Gilbert. This may be why they didn't tell us Edge's name in the U.S. version, because they changed Gilbert's name to Edward for spacing purposes. (Or that they never seem to tell you the full names of the characters other than in the manual. tongue.gif)

The only thing I ever really used Edge's Steal for was to get a good stock of Alerts earlier in the game for that short time you could re-enter the Tower of Babil. But he never bothered me that much. With good throwing weapons and his best weapons he's an okay character.

Plus in FFIV Advance with the Sasuke's Katana and Mutsunokami he has the full 255 attack power... although Cecil, Kain, and Cid can reach that too, so I guess it's not THAT great...
