Strange character (opening screen)

In the opening screen for the PS version of FFVI (which lets you load data, view 'bonus' material, etc.), a character from the game--usually a playable character--appears at the bottom. Typically, the only other characters I've seen there are guards and imps; however, I recently saw a different character, and this has me scratching my head. It looks female, and very much like Celes--except that her hair is dark, and there's a sword across her back. (In fact, the character she looks most like is Hildegaarde from FFIX, but the PS re-release of FFVI was out prior to FFIX... wasn't it?) Does anybody else recall seeing characters that "shouldn't" be there ( i.e., aren't part of FFVI to begin with)? Is there another credible explanation anyone might offer?

There is a rare chance to see a Red Onion Kid or Squall as one of the characters.

Onion Kid, Squall, Cloud, and Sephiroth all have a possiblility of being seen.

Cloud and Sephiroth look more like FF5 sprites than 6.
