I recently purchased guild wars today, since it was strongly suggested by several of my friends.
i installed the game and then started playing very soon i saw that my computer was unable to interpret the graphics of guild wars.(all i had was shaded frames showing only colors like green blue and white) within a couple minutes i had asked guild wars what was the minimum requirement they responded thaty the minum requirements were; An ATI Radeon 8500, or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series Video Card, with 32 megabytes of VRAM, and then suggested; ATI Radeon 9000, or GeForce 4 Ti Series Video Card, with 64 megabytes of VRAM. Iv looked these up to discover they are chips i would have to purchase and attach to my computer. I have estimated that this would take a minimun of a month to accomplish (given my personal situation), does anyone know of an alternate method to enable me to play guild wars , as it should (i.e. downloading a program or something.) because i would like to play it asap. all input is greatly appreciated. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I can contact you with a friend of mine that has been playing Guild Wars ever since the demo was released, and before that he was a Diablo 2 freak. If you want to talk to him let me know and I'll give you his e mail so you can contact him through MSN messenger!

If you don't meet even the minimum requirements, I doubt there's much that you can do to make it work. There may be a setting to force all the graphics processing through your CPU, but even if that worked, which I also doubt, you'd need a beast of a computer to manage it - doesn't sound like you do based solely on the lack of a graphics card. 32MB minimum is a low threshold for a game these days.
I'd contact them again and see if they have any more suggestions - the game developers know better than anyone you're going to find here. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

First off, what GFX card have you got? Important bit of infomation, that.
When installing Guild Wars, I was told my graphics card was incompatible, but it works fine. They either lied or have updated compatibility since the installer was built. Occasionly, I get blank ground textures, but this is when I'm minimizing and restoring it too much and trying to do to many things like MSN. My advice is to update all your drivers, Windows Update, etc, etc, thats a given. Next try lowering your desktop resolution, and in-game resolution, to the same amount, like 800x600, and turn down all the other options to lowest/off. If that works, start scaling up untill you get a balance between it working and looking good. -------------------- Whether you take the doughnut hole as a blank space or as an entity unto itself is a purely metaphysical question and does not affect the taste of the doughnut one bit. http://slightly-bitter.blog.co.uk |

blank ground textures is a basic description of what my problem is, i'll have to try that out
Edit also note the only reason the gfx card was the main issue because i do not know what i have. whereas i knew for a fact i had every other requirement. i know for a fact my comp can handle the graphics of warcraft since i used to play it. so i am still looking for reasonable solutionas before i pull for a new comp or gfx card This post has been edited by Cloud_Strife510 on 25th February 2006 06:14 -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |
