Maybe his pants are just baggy and/or hanging low on his body. Don't know if that accounts for his skinny appearance or not, but whatever, the sprite's not bad, indeed.

Awww, you're SUCH a sweetie ! Now, am I joking? I don't know...

As for the change in pose, it does add a nice bit o' energy to the sprite. I don't remember seeing such in any of your previous sprites.
