how many people were surprized to find that even though clod was in soldier he wasnt first calss. (he was living in zacks shoes zack died and cloud couldnt face this and tried to be like zack rhey were best freinds)

There were alot of other things that were more surprising than that. Interesting as it was, it just doesn't compare to alot of other things.

P.S.- You may want to title threads carefully, so you don't reveal things to others who haven't played that far or whatever. And some members might throw a fit anyway, so just keep that in mind.

Yeah, but he didn't actually make it into the SOLDIER organisation. He just became one of the blue-uniformed ShinRa lackeys.

On top of that, the mako eyes come from the testing shortly after the Nibelheim incident. Hojo experimented on them, and infused Cloud with mako energy.

No. Cloud was in a comatose-like state when Zack was murdered. However, due to this comatose-like state (caused by Mako poisoning), it was Zack's memories (or as close to them as possible) that stuck in Cloud's mind, not his own memories. Hence, he thought what happened to Zack happened to him.

After seeing Tifa's reactions in certain events I realized that Cloud's story may not have been the truth

I thought Cloud was telling the truth about his past, but looking back I realised I shoulda' caught on sooner that something might've been fishy.

I was certain that Cloud wasn't telling the "whole truth" when Sephiroth gave Cloud a different version of the flashback of 5 years ago with Tifa appearing to have agreed with the black-cloaked man at around the time Sephiroth had the Black Materia in his possession or was on the verge of doing so.

Shinra didn't infuse him with Mako, Hojo did. They were being experimented on after the Nibelheim incident. When Zack died, it was a month to a week before the game started, I believe.

Um, isn't the whole ShinRa army under the banner of SOLDIER? That's the way I always read it, but meh, I might be wrong.

And know I wasn't that surprised, when you consider the other plot twists in the game, the biggest one was the most emotionally heart-rending experience ever (you know the one I mean, end of Disc 1).

Not quite, there are Shin-ra Soldiers (I think they call them Officers most of the time), but the people called SOLDIER have been injected with Mako to help promote their physical development. People in SOLDIER are, naturally, more physically fit (or just better) than most people. The Mako injections make them even stronger. I think.

Mako injections increase a Soldier's speed, strength and endurance.
A member of SOLDIER is much harder to kill than a standard grunt,
as pointed out with the Zack issue.

Cloud was never actually SOLDIER, just a standard Grunt who was infused with Jenova cells and Mako during Hojo's experimentation time on him, during the Nibelhiem incident.
This wasn't a week before the game's start at all, rather, right after the actual Nibelhiem incident, which was five years prior to the game. The escape from Nibelhiem mansion is actually a few weeks before the game starts, meaning that Hojo had Zack and Cloud in captivity for just about 5 years. Imagine what that would do to your mind? Clearly Zack handled it all better, because of his lack of reaction to the Jenova cells and ablility to withstand more Mako injections than Cloud could, which distorted his mind.

That's more or less how Tifa found him too.

When I found out that Cloud was not 1st class and was living in Zack's shoes I was blown away with the story. It gives you an insight to how disturbed Cloud's mind is and the plot really changes after that because not only does Cloud have to settle the score with Sephiroth he also has to settle the score for Hojo who was responsible for experimenting on him and taunting Cloud for being a 'failure' and being responsible for Zack's death after it was Zack who saved him.

The blue and red guards can't be from soldier, a couple are thrashed just after getting of the train at Sector 8's Mako Reactor

And after being asked by Barret if their were any SOLDIERs there Cloud says no

Cloud wasn't in SOLDIER at all. The reason he was exposed to mako was because Hojo experimented with him and Zack after Cloud beat Sephiroth in the Nibelheim Reactor.
