So, tell us a story! A story about something weird and/or memorable that has happened to you in the course of any Final Fantasy game. Weird glitches (NOT brought about by a GameShark, mind you!), unexpected bursts of strength by a party member during a fight, especially dramatic boss fights, a bad situation turned around by quick reflexes or a stroke of luck...anything like that.
![]() Here's mine: The game: Final Fantasy III. The time: Right after the fight with that big bad birdie, Garuda. The situation: As anyone who's played FFIII probably knows, the best (and possibly only, unless you've done some crazy amount of leveling up beforehand) way of beating Garuda is to switch the jobs of all of your party members to Dragoon. So I'd done this, and saved the day, thus netting myself a nice handful of new Jobs for my efforts. Before setting off again, I switched everyone's jobs back to what they'd been before the fight. And all was well...except for one thing. My party members were named Conrad, Kieran, Michel, and Akshel (you get a prize if you can name the reference there...). The leader, Conrad, was accustomed to being a Knight. But when I switched him back to Knight after his stint as a Dragoon, he underwent a complete personality overhaul. His name, for some inexplicable reason, changed to Donrad, and after every single fight from that point on, he gained a level. In the immortal words of Dave Barry, I swear I am not making this up. It wasn't long before Donrad had far outstripped the other members of the team; by the time he reached his 99th level, everyone else was still in their 40s or 50s. He had 9999 HP and was dealing upwards of 3000 damage with -each hit-, and of course, I had him equipped with two swords, which meant he hit twice each round... At first I was disappointed, thinking that this turn of events would render the game unchallenging. But by the time I reached the final boss, I was glad of the boost. Donrad was the only one who was still standing after the fight--or rather, crouching. Like I said before, I'm not making this glitch up--it really happened, but I've never been able to get it to happen again. The only thing I can think of that might have inflicted this sudden insanity upon Conrad/Donrad is that I made him a Mystic Knight just before changing him back to Knight, just to see how the new Job functioned. Weird, weird, weird. |

On FFIV, after I get Edge I usually try to get the Zeus Gauntlet in the cave; until Edge's level catches up with everyone else's, then I just forget it. I was nearing that point in one play through when I won it. Then on my way to a save point, I got into another battle (I tried getting back as soon as I could because I was playing the cartridge). When I won, the party did their victory dance for 10 minutes. Then I gave up and turned it off.

I just purchase FFT again about 2 weeks ago, it had been several years since I played it. Well last night I beat it, and what occurs? The game locks up at the very beggining of the ending! @#%&! I mean come on! No problems throughout the whole game, then right as I beat it this happens.

FINALLY beating Rubicant... after nearly a year stuck on him. Or there's FF7 when I first rented it. Disc 1 would freeze in the reactor. The solution? Put disc 2 in.
Ran the WHOLE of disc 1 as far as I could tell... I had only got to sector 7 following the wall market before I had to take it back, and buy the game. Memorable: FFVI: When I attempted to infiltrate Kefka's tower at a ridiculously low level (mid-20s I believe) and fought Atma. He geared up to give me a Ultima blast, and all of my characters were beaten to a pulp, from which they surely would have perished. As a measure of half-crazed and desperate last resort, I chose Palidor (which, by the way, I didn't know what it did). It's Sonic Dive swooped down and took my players up for the Jump! Ultima missed! I was saved!! Plus on my character's way down they killed Atma. I'll never forget that multicolored bird.

In Final Fantasy X when you've watched Tidus' and Yuna's bit at the spring and you enter the calm lands - My characters all seemed to have recieved a stat boost. Damage figures were up by almost a thousand and Yuna's aeons seemed to have more HP.
I've also noticed that the same kind of thing happens in VIII after the space incident. -------------------- ''Peace is but a shadow of death, desperate to forget it's painful past, though we hope for promising years, after shedding a thousand tears yesterday's sorrow constantly nears, and while the moon shines blue, by dawn it will turn a scarelt hue.'' - Kuja ''Then I'll be going now. In FFIV, I attempted to get Bahamut at fairly low levels. I did this attempt after the Babil Giant scene, so no FuSoYa for me. Instead I had Kain. Kain had jumped when Bahamut did the Mega Flare (or whatever the ultimate attack of his was called) , and everyone died but him, because he was in the air. When he came down. I had him jump again. And again. The timing of me having him jump meant that Kain was always in the air whenever Bahamut did the attack. I was happy, and I had a new summon under my belt.

I was playing FFVI, and got from Zozo in WOB to getting more than half of my characters in the WOR.
The problem: I died, and all those hours I spent playing the story were all for naught. almost After the death scene, I was back to just outside zozo, all equipment and money reinitialized to the save spot, but all my characters were the same level as when they died. Of course, I didn't want to play through the whole story again, so I saved and turned it off for over a week. Also, on the cartridge version, my mom had a run-in with the Sketch glitch, without realizing there was a glitch like that. She got 50 of the strongest weapon in the game, as well as a few other items, but some Items from the game were completley AWOL. i.e. all of Sabin's weapons were gone, and we couldn't find a single shop on here file where they were sold... Also, edgar was permenantly in a Stone status, and she couldn't fix it. -------------------- Neneko is Neneko because Neneko couldn't be Neneko if Neneko wasn't Neneko! --as quoted from Neneko, Mahoraba {Heartful Days} I can stab a man with a thick paperback book thru the ribcage. |

four years ago during the summer myself and five friends of mine organized an FF VII marathon. Four of us, myself included, set up four TVs and four PS1/2s in the same room and all started a new game of FF VII at the same time. We decided that we'd each play it through without saving and the first person to see the ending credits wins - if you die in the game, then you have to either give up or start over and there was absolutely no FMV skipping through opening and closing the lid of the PS. The other two people were there to moderate, keep us company, and hang out in general. Basically each of us played for around ten hours straight, then we very erratically pause our games to take naps, eat food, or just take a break from the game. My friend David won, and though the timer technically said 55 hours it was probably more like twenty-five hours of playing time. I somehow died at the Temple of the Ancients due to my tendency to never level up enough (I was seriously like an hour ahead of the rest of the group, but my speedy ways got the better of me when I took on that ****ing wall...), and instead of starting a new game I just gave up and hung out. Steve had died sometime earlier than I had and Katie had just changed to disc 3 when David beat the game.
So yeah, I'm a huge geek for spending two and a quarter days straight over my summer vacation to play a video game with friends. Still, we had a good time doing it, and it was more about getting the chance to hang out with old friends and the stories we can tell of it later made the whole ordeal mostly worthwhile. -------------------- |

Wow, that sounds like fun. Whenever I go to a LAN party, I just set up my CPU in my friend's closet and remain in there, only leaving for essential needs (food, drink, bathroom.) We still have fun, thats what counts. -------------------- Neneko is Neneko because Neneko couldn't be Neneko if Neneko wasn't Neneko! --as quoted from Neneko, Mahoraba {Heartful Days} I can stab a man with a thick paperback book thru the ribcage. |

I remember playing FFIV through the first time and I got to Fabul. Of course, I went up to everyone to see what they had to say. I was all "W T F" when I talked to the dancer. She turned into a he, a soldier in drag doing his stuff for Cecil. Yeah, that kinda freaked me out the first time through.

The first time I ever pulled an "all nighter" for anything was when my friend got a copy of Final Fantasy IV for his birthday. We stayed up playing it as a group up through.. I believe we made it to the underworld before we parted. Ah, what a great adventure!

The first one was with FFII U.S. This was before I, my brother, and our myriad friends playing it as one consciousness understood anything about "saving," so we just kept playing past Mist Valley, the Antlion Cave, etc. When we got to the nighttime scene (first nighttime scene!) where Edward plays his harp outside, we settled back for the little cinematic treat. Edward played his harp. And played his harp. And played and played and played and played...
Yes, we figured out the game was likely frozen in that one animation, but none of us could bear to pull the plug. We tapped and adjusted that SNES like a band of safecrackers, but after about half an hour, we gave up the ghost. Oh, that stung. To this day, Edward's harp theme makes my face tic involuntarily. There was also the time that I was watching my brother beat Sephiroth in our first FF7 playthrough and, in my excitement, kicked the PSX to the ground and lost every save on our cheapo 60+-space generic memory card. Oh, I wasn't a popular member of the Cully clan after that. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

Mine isn't really that exciting. We had just gotten FF7, and my boyfriend would play it while I watched. One night we had our best friend over and so the game went on, because we had to sho her how cool it was. After a while, at about 1 a.m., I decided I needed to go to sleep, so I went to bed, while the two of them stayed up. At about 8 in the morning, they were still there, hadn't moved an inch. So, yeah, good game if you can show it to someone one night and they spend the next 12 hours watching you play.
Then there was the whole David's clone is Squall incident, roughly outlined in a general gaming thread. And this one, since it's Enix. Dragon Warrior, on my original Nintendo, back in grade 7. I spent all summer working on it, so when i finally made it to the battle with the Dragonlord, i called my little sister, age 9 I think, in to watch. I was playing FFVI an undetermined amount of time ago (years) and was in Kefka's tower. I was fighting somthing, and my Sabin was near death. I had him attack, and this dragon thing came out of him and attacked. I didn't know about despiration attacks at that time, so this was quite a surprise.

I got my copy of FF8 in the post at about 9AM on a Saturday, just after I had breakfast. I played on it straight away. And, I didn't stop for 11 hours and 39 minutes. At that point I was in Galbadia Garden. I only stopped three times -
2 toilet breaks. I really had to go after all the ginger beer. 1 lunch break. Basically I ran downstairs and got some bread, cheese and onion crisps, and some leftover cheese. I made a frickin' HUGE sandwich and ran upstairs armed with ginger beer. I can't remember what I did for dinner. No, wait... I did go back downstairs one more time for some dinner. I remember once when I was fighting the MagiMaster, I got pissed for some reason and did Merton. I had Terra and Mog in my party..Merton did 9999 on the MagiMaster, 4522 or somewhere in the neighborhood of that on Terra, and I didn't get what it did to Mog, but he had 19** something HP left.
