I'm not trying to bring up something that is dead that everyone may already know.

But seriously? Final Fantasy VI is such a deep game, it's got to be in the top 3 games of all time for best story/characters. Everything about it is near perfect. I mean come on; "The best thing in life is being free of obligation...otherwise you lose your ability to gamble." When someone like Setzer says a line like that it gives me goosebumps. Square definately took some time with this game and it sure turned out to be incredible. It has always been my favorite Final Fantasy, but I guess it just dawned on me again that it was so damned good.

Comment away?! biggrin.gif

My favorite line was one of Kefka's.

Agreed.

Gah it kills me. I wish VI got more recognition. I would love to see an actual "Remake" of VI before one of VII. It just captivates me more and more everytime I play through. -sigh-

What an exquisite game.

It's not in my top three's but I know what you mean. All characters have a very detailed background, well except Gogo who is secretly Gogo, who was proud to give 4 crystal warriors a class.

But theres so much backstabbing in it. Well one choice you choose, wink.gif . But I do agree with both of you.

The game truly is a masterpience and I doubt the makers knew how good it would end up being. There are other Final Fantasies that got much more recognition, but I think this is the gem of the series, and of all video games in general.

The music, characters, stories, game play, etc - all excellent quality.

Back in '94, this was the RPG to own, and I personally still believe so. I'm also pretty confident Square quickly realized just how precious a gem they had on their hands once FFVI outsold its Dragon Quest rival in Japan, which apparently was quite a feat for 'em back in the day.

Although my top three SNES favorites are, in my never-to-be humble opinion, the best games ever to grace a television screen, I'd have to say this one ranks slightly higher than the rest (sorry, EarthBound; you'll always be my silver medal heart.gif).

Also, on a purely fan basis (at least), FFVI does continue to receive a helluva lotta recognition for a 12-year-old classic, so I wouldn't go sellin' its appreciation too short.

I have to agree that this game is the best one of the series as far as plot structure, character development, and invention. Being the last one they released for the SNES, I was fairly disapointed in the next one of the series even though it turned out to be an extraordinary game in itself.

[Note: I'm not trying to downplay VII, I'm just saying that my expectations were extremely high for the next game - probably unrealistically high.]

While I can't say it's my favorite one of the series, I believe that it encompasses more of the qualities that make a good game than any of the ones that came before it or after it.

I agree.. 7 is an incredible game. I mean hell, I have a tattoo of Sephiroth & Mog from 6, but 6 just outdoes 7, to me at least, in every aspect. As it has been said before; gameplay, music, characters, background information, enemys. GAH!

So good... rolleyes.gif

One of my favorite things about 6 is the script. I was a little aprehensive about it before I bought it because everybody disses Woolsey--but I love it! Everybody says funny and creative things instead of cursing, and it is just all around fun if a little sparse.

On top of that, the music and graphics are gorgeous. What the gameplay lacks is made up for by the overall atmosphere and perfection of it.

I wonder how many easily impressionable people have avoided buying the real SNES version because somebody says the japanese version is better--give me a break, it was the best $30 I've spent in my life!

In my opinion, I think that FF 6 will always be remembered throughout history since it was an excellent and phenomenal video game. I personally would nominate it (I think it came out 1991 i don't know) in the time period it came out to be the best video game of all.

My favorite lines from FF6 are:

"I'm a soldier, not some love-starved twit." -Celes Chere

"Wait he says. Do I look like a waiter?" -Kefka

I personally think FF6 has an almost book-like quality to it. While having absolutely amazing gameplay, a very solid plot, and a smooth battle system, it is accompanied by an amazing cast of characters, unforgettable enemies, and still retains that Final Fantasy-esque quality to it. (IE: What am I fighting some demon with 6 arms and a naked woman attached to his side for?)

The dialogue was superb, the way the game introduced background really enhanced the plot, the entire intellectual side of the game really makes it out due the previous FF's.

I've never played an RPG that really compared to the sheer skill and design that FF6 delivered and still delivers to me. I am totally psyched about the new GBA version, just for the chance to play my favorite game in my hands.

Final Fantasy 6 is just simply amazing, I agree ;D

While I don't care for Woosley's 'artistic liberties' with the script, I do adore his sense of humor. I can't imagine a world without waiters that aren't waiting up, boots that have sand on them, and most importantly, chapters from self-help booklets. And let's not forget to slit our mama's throats for nickels!

Anyway,

I patiently await Final Fantasy VI for the GBA. I'm way more psyched about FFIIIDS, but this is probably the second thing I want the most handheld. It's up in my favorite rankings of the Final Fantasy games (all the good points of the game have been said already, so I won't repeat those), and I'd pretty much agree with all of them. What gets me even more, is that this game still seems to entertain me even today, 12 years since it's conception. It's story could honestly stand up to RPGs today, albeit it may look a bit primitive in structure (if only because everything else after it took alot of elements from it, not just the Final Fantasy games).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna listen to Dancing Mad...

I'm so glad there's other people out there that understand how amazing every aspect of this game actually is, (and many final fantasies for that matter) by playing through this game once, one can feel more emotions than some could in an entire lifetime! It shows happiness, anger, insanity, jealously and every other possible emotion i can think of. it really can teach people different feelings that they never thought they'd ever had, I love it and i wish everyone in the world could experience it and understand it at least once....

So true!!

There's just something so special about this game that no other video game in history is able to show.

I would love to see this story in a different format one day - book, movie, etc...
Hopefully we have some really smart, artistic people on these forums that will one day make that happen!! shifty.gif

What an exquisite game.

i can't believe i remember this, and i didn't realize what it was at the time. It had to be more than ten years ago, but i saw (and might still have to this day) a really old issue of electronic gaming monthly, in the letters section someone was asking about FF7. with the reply, the editor answering the question posted a picture of a supposed screen shot from FF7. in the picture were pretty good 3D renders of what seemed clearly to me, to be shadow and terra.

i'll have to see if i still have that and get it on the web somehow.

Heh, the first time I played this game was when I was about 5. Back then, I didn't know shit about what was going on in the game, but I thought it was fun as hell. The next time I played it was when I was like 9ish. I've only beaten the game fully through only twice, but I'm playing through it again for the hell of it. In 3 days, I got from the beginning of Narshe to levelling Shadow up in the Dinosaur forest! Now that I'm 13, I actually get what's going on in this game and it's more awesome than I though.. definetely best RPG ever made.

And to sonicdeathmonkey, I believe FF7 was supposed to be a remake or continuation of FF6, but I'm not sure.. I haven't paid attention to Final Fantasies in awhile...

Just posting my thoughts.

Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII are not connected, though they do share quite a number of obvious similarities.

There was a technical demo of what FFVI would look like on the N64 using some 'Silicon Graphics Workstation' (or something like that).

I almost forgot about that demo. I wish someday someone does something with it and doesn't get shut down for it (i.e. Chrono Break).

It's so funny. I remember as a kid, maybe around age 8, back when I would have to rent a SNES and a game for the weekend. I went in there lookin' around for a cool new game and saw Mog on the box of VI so I asked to clerk, "what game is this? it looks fun!" He said, "not many people like that game, you probably won't like it."

This story is always fun to share with people, seeing now that I have a FFVI tattoo and it's the greatest game ever IMO. tongue.gif Just a fun lil' tidbit.

p.s. I ended up renting Turtles in Time. laugh.gif

To this day I'm still awed by Final Fantasy VI.

The music: brilliant. The chraracters: expertly fleshed out. The story: for lack of a better word - beautiful. I can only speak ouyt of personal opinoin, of course, but to this day I've yet to play a game that captures me the same way. Or any game with that same feeling of nostalgia that Final Fantasy VI brings. Having added my two cents, I'm going to go play through it again.

Well put. I'm sure veryone has something nostalgic(?) after playing once through this game...

A few years back, I even started learning to play the songs from VI, along with other FFs as well. Final "Metal" Fantasy wink.gif
