Well I'm going through the Slyph Cave with my Frying Pan in tow, but I can't wait until the new dungeons open up. How are they? Were they good additions to the game, or were they mediocre like the FFI DoS dungeons (that's how I felt anyway.) And when do they open up. Do you beat the Babil giant or what?

You can probably find this in the Opinions on FF IV Advance thread, and you could definitely find it at Gamefaqs if you felt like it. I'll answer your questions anyway, but you should really try faqs and online guides before you have to resort to forums - general rule of thumb, there.
The first unlockable dungeon is unlocked right after you defeat the Giant of Babil, and it's over by Mount Ordeals, called the Cave of Trials. In it are an excellent helm and an excellent armour for each of the five returning characters (Yang, Edward, Cid, and the twins), and at the end of the dungeon is a nifty weapon for each of the five returning characters, but you'll need to challnege a boss for each of the weapons, and the corresponding character must be in your party to pick up each weapon, so you'll have to run through the cave at least twice if you want to get everything in it (and trust me, the new weapons and equipment are worth it - because your other characters will have somewhat lackluster equipment until you finish the Path to the Core, the new equipment makes your five returning characters much stronger than your classic party, except for perhaps Rydia's summons). The next dungeon is called the Lunar Ruins, and it's unlocked on the Moon once you beat the game. It's forty to fifty floors long (I forget exactly how long) and every few floors there's a special gate, corresponding to one of your party members (except in Palom and Porom's case, as they share a gate). The gates are unlocked ONLY once you've beaten the game with their corresponding characters, so you need to beat the game at least twice in order to unlock all of the gates (I say twice because the twins' gate is unlocked after you beat the game with either of them, but in order to enter it you need both in your party in the Lunar Ruins). The floors of the Lunar Ruins are extremely random, ranging from typical dungeons to strange puzzles to towns, and I think it's also a radomly determined order (I'm not sure if the order of the gates is random, but the one time I've gone through the ruins the first five gates - Yang, Edward, Rydia, Cecil, and Rosa - were the five characters I had brought). The gates are special trials directed at specific characters, and at the end of each one you have to challenge a super Lunar Summon and you usually receive a character-specific ring or gauntlet as a prize (the only exception I've seen so far is Cecil). Overall, I really like the new dungeons. They're way more fun than the Soul of Chaos dungeons (I haven't taken on Soul of Rebirth yet) and the new equipment really makes your characters ridiculously more powerful (Yang and Edward are particularly awesomer now, IMO). -------------------- |

I would use gamefaqs, but most game sites at my school (where I almost always go online) are blocked, so here is the next best thing. I can't wait to get that darn spoon from the slyphs so I can head to the moon and then to the Giant and start my first new dungeon ![]() -------------------- |

Actually, regarding Cecil... Possible spoilers: highlight to view What Cecil receives is entirely dependant upon what you do throughout his entire quest. Obviously, if you do everything correctly, you get the Lightbringer. But doing certain things will change the outcome. Other things i've seen so far are the Flandango, and a Death Sword. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. The order of the gates isn't random.
![]() What I loved about the Lunar Ruins was the inclusion of a little bit of character developement between Kain and Cecil. Sadly, that's about all there is, but it's great. There are a few nasty surprises in the form of bosses near the end, too, which makes it a fun dungeon. Likewise for the Cave of Trials, which had some of the funnest boss battles in the game (as in, hard as hell because my party wasn't outfitted like a group of inhuman demi-gods by then.) The Lunar Ruins feel a little bit rushed though. Particularly the weird messed up animations the grimoirs gets when used against SPOILER. And the lack of any specific conclusion after SPOILER is a bit disappointing, but the fight wasn't too bad... -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

That's very true. I'm trying the Cave of Trials with Yang and Edward right now, and their bosses were hell, though the Giga Worm was somewhat eaiser than Yangs weapons boss. I think I have to go through again to get Edward's stuff and Yang's helmet. I snagged Yang's, one of the twins, and Cid's armour, as well as Cid's helmet. -------------------- |

They are quite a bit, fun im about 85% done with the Cave of trials, and doing a bit of the Lunar ruins (so far i've only completed Yang's Trial) the loot you get there is quite good esp. the rewards for the trails that are completed.

I went into the Lunar Ruins and came across the Monk Door (which wouldn't open since I haven't taken Yang to beat Zeromus yet). It's best to wait until you've beaten the game with everyone before taking on the Lunar Ruins, yes? That's what I'm doing.

Now I'm playing through the core for the 1st time. I still have yet to find Edward's armor, but I snagged everything else from the 1st new dungeon. It was fun, but short. Cid's boss was extremley easy, because Cid did 4000 plus damage every turn.

I just got to the Lunar Ruins with the gates of the original final five characters unlocked. I've only been to Rydia's gate. She collected all four of the "things" that she needed to find (those who have done the dungeon should know what they are) and is about to fight the boss monster, who is sorta hard. Can anyone tell me which floor you can find Edward's armor on in the Cave of Trials? It's the only one I'm missing, and I really don't want to go to Zeromus without it, with him being so frail and all.

/me almost reprimands you for not having checked a guide first, but remembers that you can't access gamefaqs from wherever you post from.
One of the general/walkthrough guides on gamefaqs says that Edward's armor is on the first floor, on the east side in a secret passage between two rocks. -------------------- |

Thanks! The no game faqs thing is extremly annoying indeed. Otherwise, I wouldn't have posted. Damn you Edward for being so frail!
