Quote (sbq92 @ 14th February 2006 00:37) I use them in the usual places that have already been mentioned, mainly to avoid random battles. ... I suppose they were included because, since FFII, they became somewhat iconic, and the idea of not having them probably never even crossed the developers' minds. The level of usefulness, however, is probably about second lowest of all the FF games they are included in. FFVIII is probably first. I NEVER used a chocobo usefully. What he said. Chocobos had become one of the FF traditions at that point, so they included them. Their usefulness in most games, including FFVI, is restricted to avoiding random battles, which makes them all but useless once you have another means for doing that (airship). In FFVIII, I don't remember ever needing one. They were hard to find and most of the time you had other transport, and IIRC if you walked on the paved roads of the overworld map you avoided battles too. But to be fair, they've never really played a major role. They have some storyline significane in IV and V (mostly through Boco) and major sidequests require their use in VII and IX. |

In some instances, chocobos become very useful.
1. If you don't have an airship. 2. Don't feel like getting into random battles (Can always use Moogle Charm but you don't get that until later in the game). Other than those reason's, chocobos are pretty useless except that they're cute though!!! -------------------- Profanity is for those who lack the intelligence and imagination to otherwise express themselves. Revelation 19-22 ---------------------------------------- Favorite FF -------------- FFVI Favorite FF character - Unsure (Setzer or Vivi) Favorite FF songs ----- FFVI Favorite Esper: Ragnarok Favorite Magic: Ultima |

Chocobos in FF6 can only cross places in which characters can walk on. It wouldn't matter a difference if there was or wasn't an airship The only point to using chocobos are to prevent random battles gameplay-wise. |

I think I used chocobos a grand total of... twice. Or three times, and the last time was just to stand there and listen to the chocobo theme, becuase FF6 has my favorite chocobo theme of them all. XD ROBOBO!!
Other than that, I'm a warmonger and love random battles, so using them to avoid the random battling wasn't something I wanted to do. |

The chocobos in VI are, in my opinion, utterly useless for most of the game. Either you have the airship, the moggle charm, or you don't mind getting into random battles for whatever reason.
There's also the fact that the screen changes to 2-D whenever you're on a chocobo, that annoys me to no end, but then again, it does that with the airship too...but you can't go over mountians and bodies of water with chocobos, so it's made up for. Meh. I definitely like chocobos better in some of the other FF games--like VII and IX... |
