I've actually talked to a few people about how they might run out of Nintendo characters, and maybe some old school third party NES additions would be in order, assuming Nintendo could get the rights to use the characters. It seems like some people here have a similar idea.

I think Sonic & Knuckles would be a great addition, especially since Nintendo owns the rights (I did not know that). Other than that, maybe Mega Man. But I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect Nintendo to deviate from the "Nintendo characters only" rule.

There's an in depth guide on Gamefaqs (Unfortuneately they don't allow direct linking) that lists every Nintendo character, or damn near every. And I must say, it's quite an expansive list. It's definitely a place to look if you think the character pool is small, or have entirely run out of ideas.

The more I think about it, I expect some of the more, "default" Nintendo characters to enter the fray, rather than just pallette swaps. Wario, Waluigi, Daisy, etc. Really, i'd like to see Koopa Troopa and Pit, those two are the biggest desire for me. I wonder about how some of them would play, but Pikachu was tiny, and still played well. So why not Kamek or Shyguy? Maybe even Raphael Raven.

Now that we have more info, it's time to necropost
We predicted Pit, Wario, and Mata Knight, but now that we know that 3rd party characters are possible, I ask again, who should be in it.

I still believe a nonswordman from Fire Emblem should be added. I also want a Mother/Earthbound character still...maybe Flint from Mother 3. (Because 2x4s are fun!)

3rd party, maybye Sonic is a possibility. But I really doubt we'll see Square Enix characters. And I still think the Harvest Moon kid could work.

If they do it for us, I'll be sure to get my word in. Isn't Harvest Moon popular in Japan? I know Fire Emblem is, so maybe we'll see someone like Sigurd or Lillina (from FE4 and FE6)

they really need to add the classics like zero, diddy kong, you know what i meean they could add a castlevania character or even add a version of thetold link like you could play as the 2d version of some of he old characters. now that would be a game i would buy.

This is pretty unlikely due to the nature of the game. I mean, come on. What are they going to do for the Smash attack? Poke you with their staves?

Not sure why I just thought of this, but Viewtiful Joe comes to mind. He may not be classic enough yet, but he fits the game too perfectly. But due to his popularity, he would also probably be a debut newcomer, so I think it's safe to say he's ruled out.

Also, the more I think about it, the more Sonic will be a very, very good fit. I mean, when Sega made the Sonic Spin able to be charged in the Sonic games, it's like they wanted him to be in SSB eventually.

I'd like to see King. K Rool from Donkey Kong in this game. D.K is cool and SSB needs more Donkey Kong characters.

Or perhaps Isaac. I'd really like to see how he'd turn out. I can see him being half swordman and half mage, with his psynergy and all.

Komplete with Kannonball Shot-Trumpet, from Donkey Kong Kountry 2.

And that weapon komplete with an ability of spitting out fish and seaweed. What about bakkfiring?

I would LOVE to see Jeff from Earthbound, with his bottlerockets and other goofy gadgets...

Other characters that come to mind are Sonic and Knuckles, Simon Belmont (w00t for Konami), MegaMan and Zero, and Geno.

Well, since the subject of Earthbound has been brought up, I think the next ssb should have pokey. It would be kind of cool to play as him.

How? I can't see that Tub 'o Lard doing anything but rolling over his opponents and crapping on them from a chopper. Unless your talking about Heavily Armored Pokey. But that would be to big, I believe

If he were heavily armed Pokey, he could be about bowser-size, to keep things balanced. I don't know what kind of attacks he would have though.

I don't know if you guys are behind the times or whatever but there is already a trailer for the new game that reveals a few of the characters discussed here. Pit, Wario, Metaknight, and a super secret character that got everyone into a frenzy have been announced. You can see the trailer on google video:

Yes, the new characters are old news. But those aren't the only new ones so we're debating who we think should be included. I've heard that Megaman is being considered.

Ever since the Solid Snake announcement, I have been hopeful that Crono or Magus would appear. Also, it would be funny if they took every fighter that was ever used athere as well, including Lemmy and Iggy Koopa. -CSM

Evidently Ridley of Metroid fame, Bowswer Jr. of recent Mario fame, and Cel-shaded Link of Wind Waker fame are in the SSB cast for certain now. However, Young Link, the Ice Climbers, and Mr. Game&Watch won't be returning from SSBM.

Oh, and also, Sakurai says he wants to bring at least one or two more non-Nintendo characters into the mix. *Prays for Simon Belmont or Mega Man*

solid snake for certain doesn't belong in a smash game (people accuse square of cash cowing?), but speaking of "wahey" and non-nintendo chars, it would be badass to get a banjo-kazooie team into the game, whether as one character or seperate chars.

i'm not so sure about having 17 different metroid cahracters on the roster, and i sure as hell didn't need to see celda link...it seems like the game is turning more and more towards a bunch of slight variations on the same character. i hate that type of thing in fighting games. why have 40 characters when you could roll them all up into 20 with a bit more substance to each one?

oh well. smash has never been too serious a fighter, and i guess it intends to stay that way...i can certainly say i have had more raw fun playing smash than playing other, more skill-intensive fighters.

I'm not so excited to get it anymore. They just cut my second-best character, Mr G&W. He and Bowser were my best two characters, and now he's gone; I wouldn't put it past them to make Bowser uber-slow and wayyyy laggier in this version, too, rendering both of my characters useless.

*sigh*

Maybe Bowser Jr. will be more Game and Watch-y so he can take his place. He'll prolly be really lame and use a paintbrush to attack, though.

The only other metroid characters that I could think of them adding is one of the hunters. Samus in her Zero suit is supposed to be only for "ciertain conditions" .

Bowser Jr. might be cool, but I'm a little sorry to see Mr. Game & Watch go. Not so much the Ice Climbers, as I despised their super slowness

Some people think it might just be fake though.

Nintendo just fell from my respect.

1. No more Mr. Game and Watch. Wow, he was an excellent character to back-door master and surprise people with. Not to mention that he's good for annoying people. No one ever expects a person in their sane mind to play him.

2. No more Ice Climbers. I like having two characters on screen instead of just one.

3. Ridley. Ridley is supposed to be godly, never a playable character. He should MUCH more appropriately be some kind of hidden boss.

...okay, okay, I'm the only one around here who worships Ridley. But still. These are all bad ideas.

I sympathize. They just cut my favorite character. Cel-shade Link might turn out to be very similar, but he might also turn out to be very different. Either way, I was never into Windwaker the way I was into Ocarina.

But I'm looking foward to seeing Ridley in action, and I still think it's going to be a good game.

nooooo!!!!!!!!!! How could they take Young Link out. I hope that cel-shaded Link is as good or i'm gonna start moaning.

Sonic, Tails, and Toad maybe knuckles, yeah i m a Sonic fanboy no bigie though. I do also Want Wolf and Peppy (Star Fox) as well.

I'm dissapointed that they took out young link and Mr. G&W, they spiced up some of the fights, the only thing i didn't like about Mr. G&W was his level. Why couldn't they have taken out somebody useless like Luigi.
