I think that FFV has one of the best storylines in any other FF and has an amazing portary of FF history. Without this game many others would have fallen apart.

Gilgamesh - my favourite baddie
X-Death - Best villan ever! Wish he had a name though....
Galuf -

Galuf had a cheeky sense of humour and an amazing personality. Galuf was just Galuf - and one of the best things about him was that you couldn't change who he was, or what he did. I was so sad when he died and very angry when I found out that his 14 yr old grand-daughter took his place. She never was the same.... but her berserker and white mage costume cheered me up.

I'm playing my sixth time through now and I don't want Galuf to die again. Everytime I play he dies. It's an on-going cycle which never ends. I think sometimes I just play again to share those moments with Galuf... he was my favourite out of them all.

I can't believe SQUARE allowed the above to happen!!!

The time it takes for FFV to swap over and switch between events in very well done, and it has Nobuo Uematsu's best soundtrack such as: BATTLE ON THE BRIDGE, Decisive Battle (X-Death's final boss), and a few others. Does anyone know where I can get the soundtrack by the way?

--------------------
Enuo - Horror
Elder's Tree - Birthplace
X-Death - Exceeding Death
Neo X-Death - New Exceeding Death
X-Death Nightmare - Exceeding Death's Possibilities OR shadow
Exodus - Exit or Departure OR leaving one's homeland

FFV - Bounce

I agree with you XDeath Nightmare. I really loved Final Fantasy V eversince I beat it. I found the ending so well done,(with all the characters alive) that I had to put it above Final Fantasy IIIj and Final Fantasy VI.

The job and ability system was interesting. You get to make your very own kind of warriors with that. You can even recreate the Paladin from Final Fantasy IV simply by becoming a Knight class and using the !White command.

The battlesystem was SWEET. It finally includes an ATB gauge system that finally stopped the enemies from attacking so fast, but to wait and let your characters have their chances. I REALLY do think this ATB gauge is better than any other game's (except Chrono Trigger's!).

The graphics are pretty great! The sprites in the field didn't look detailed like some of FFIV's, but they still look great the way they are. The towns, indoors, castles, forests, caverns, world maps, etc. have all improved from FFIV's previous!! And I liked the expressions on the character's faces, hehe.

The music is either good or bad. On the PlayStation remake, the music sounds like crap. The remake version's songs sounded weak and didn't give much feel to it, but the Super Famicom version (original!!!) sounded better and was greatly compositioned by the great Nobuo Uematsu.

The sounds suck, but they atleast made rods sound more like rods, rather than those "ding ding" sounds in FFIV's weapons. And some other sounds sounded better than the earlier ffs..

Characters weren't the best nor the worst. The reason why I liked the characters was because they were very memorable to me. For example

Galuf risking his life to save Krile's life by removing the painful aura around her and going crazy at X-Death really showed what a caring grandfather would do. Also, Reina showed her love for dragons by eating the dragon grass to encourage the dragon to eat it to.

I LOVED the plot. People seem to think that the plot is considered cliche, but that is not entirely true. Cliche means overused terms or ideas in video games or other things that get annoying. There is NOTHING wrong with Final Fantasy V's plot.

Final Fantasy V DID have that "save the world from an evil baddie" thing, but all final fantasy games are like that. Even fan-favorite FFIV and FFVI did that. Final Fantasy V DID however, use FFIIIj's plot, but they also brought in new stuff like meteors, dragons, separated worlds, etc. Final Fantasy V did alot to stand up to the later FFs.

I think the reason why most people don't like FFV's plot is because they don't understand the nature of the FFV world (Galuf's, Void, and Bartz's world). They should be more interested in exploring more inside FFV's world, because then they'll understand why the meteors's powers were weakened, and why did they make a warp field near Tule village.

It's because each meteor needs enough power to return to Galuf's world. And now with Krile and Galuf leaving in the meteor, you don't see the meteor floating because the power was too weak to fly it back. A meteor needs enough Adamantite energy to make the meteor fly.

So that would explain why you had to go in the four meteors to put each bit of admantite there to create a warp field to Galuf's world near Tule.

They could've used up all of the Adamantite in just one meteor, but since it has been used, the meteor would perhaps need more so they decicded to split them into each meteor to see a warp field. That's my theory on meteors, and I can't really remember much about Cid & Mid with the meteor repowering(I think they did, right?).

Overall, Final Fantasy V gets a 100/100. It's my favorite final fantasy game, with awesome difficulty too!!

I personally think that FF V diferences from other Final Fantasy by their complex battle and job strategies...and that's why I love this game, maybe not that much by its storyline, its a game in were fighting its all about. Plus it got the hardest final boss....though you can use VengSword. wink.gif

Note: I played the fan-translated FFV SNES ROM. In particular, it was fully translated, used the names "Exdeath", "Guido", and "Cara".

This ranks as my second-favorite Final Fantasy game. While not as great as FFVI, I think FFV is both fun and compelling. The unique combinational character class system made for a lot of fun strategizing (as well as a reason to master different classes and try them out), while the story pulled me forward and the soundtrack nicely complemented the plot.

It's not the most detailed, the most deep, or the most complex of stories, but it definitely has drive, something that I feel FFIV somewhat lacked (probably because of low script quality due to sucky translation). It's not the most original of plots, but I don't think a plot necessarily has to be too original to be well-entertaining and high-quality (cf. people reusing Shakespeare's plots, and in excellent ways).

The soundtrack was quite nice. Among my favorite tracks were "Harvest", "Cursed Earths", "The Decisive Battle" (Exdeath's battle theme), and "Prelude to Empty Skies". While not overall anywhere near the best soundtracks (low points included tracks like the library music and the final battle theme), most of the tracks were at least well-appropriate, if not almost perfectly complementing the emotions and events that were occuring. (I am aware that the soundtrack was, very sadly, butchered when the game was ported to the Playstation. Please, if you want to enjoy the soundtrack, go to Zophar.net and find it under SPC (SNES) soundtracks.)

My favorite characters included Galuf, Guido, Cara, and Butz (yes, despite his name). Strangely, I never found Gilgamesh (or his theme song) that cool, but he did serve as an interesting plot element.

The character class system of FFV is the single element of gameplay that accounts for most of its gameplay fun. It is also most likely the progenitor of most future FF class-based games, introducing such classes as the Blue Mage and Mimic. Meteo did become sadly underpowered against a team of foes, but combinations like X-Summoning Bahamut x2 or 16 attacks in one turn with two powerful weapons more than make up for that. Add to that more ways to damage the undead (Requiem), interesting catches (Equip Ribbon, for example), and pretty darn challenging bosses (not even counting the two superbosses who serve almost purely for challenge value and give nearly nothing in return).

Overall, it's my second-favorite FF, probably tied with FFTA (which has a sucky plot but most excellent gameplay I've found so far, without having played FFT).

Actually, I thought the game kinda sucked, I had to yawn through the game to beat it, and I only beat it once. However, I would say it is the most challenging FF game I have played, which probably makes me appreciate FFV in a difficult game standpoint. Games that are easy really do start to suck after playing it for a while, so I give some credit for FFV.
