OK, Cv: SotN is probably my favorite game ever, but I haven't quite mastered it and I'm not the kind of person who uses glitches, unless you count Shield Rod / Alucard Shield as a glitch. I'll answer your questions as best I can.
Highest completion % - 196.8%. The only 2d Metrovania/Castleroid game that I have totally aced is Aria of Sorrow, with the full 100% map and souls without any walkthroughs or maps (it isn't difficult, it has probably the fewest secret passages of any of the four). I have CotM at 98.something% and HoD at exactly 199.2% (there are WAY fewer hidden passages in that one than in SotN). Weird glitches - I don't use glitches, but there are at least a dozen faqs on the subject. Check one of them out. Fastest Dracula killing time - No idea. I've done low-level and armor-less playthroughs but no speed playthroughs. My best file of it has around 45 hours of playing time. Upside-down castle - Of course I have, and of course it got harder. Galamoth alone makes it way harder. Alucard armor - Yup. Finding his old armor isn't difficult at all, and the starting equipment is some of the best equipment in the game (I Favorite Boss - Either Trevor, Sypha, and Grant in the inverse castle's Arena or the Succubus in the first castle's Underground Caverns "pit" area; the first for nostalgia reasons and the second for awesomeness of plot reasons. Favorite weapon - Depends on my mood. I'm a big fan of the Crissaegrim (who isn't?), the Rune Sword, and the Sword Familliar (which you can equip if you get its level up high enough). Other particularly popular weapons out there are the Yasutsuna, Masamune, Heaven Sword, and Shield Rod, but those first three are my favorites. Do I like the game - Of course I do. It's one of my favorite games ever. It was the direct inspiration to three of the best games for the GBA and the best game for the DS. It's one of the best 2D action games bar none. If you like video games, then you absolutely should play SotN. As many of you have probably already noticed, I never miss an opportunity to promote its greatness. -------------------- |

I love this game.
My highest completion is 200.6%, which I believe is the best you can do without glitches (which I don't use, so check gamefaqs if you want more info on that). I thought that the upside-down castle was more difficult than the normal castle, as I assume it was intended to be. Once you got a little ways through it, though, things evened out. I did find the Alucard armor; in fact, my latest save has every single item, armor, weapon, etc. in the game, obtained fairly (even the AxeLord armor, and that was a pain). My favourite boss is the ball o' people you fight in the (normal) catacombs. I thought it looked pretty cool. My favourite weapon for cheapness is the crissaegrim, but it's fun to play around with different things, and I think my favourite weapon for coolness is the Fist of Tulkas. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Hmmm...I enjoyed this game and I found a way to have more completion of the castle. My nickname on this forum it was supposed to be Alucardlv99.
My hightest completion was 290.1%. The best completion without glitches is 201.2%, but teorically....(the blue parts of the map). Normally its only 200.6%. I just used the Heart refresh variation, not a gameshark. Weird glitches? The bird one!!.. Fastest killing on final Dracula? I was in less than 10 seconds....(or 5 seconds..)using Fist of Tulkas special attack and Crissaegrim, the devil familiar, some Rings of Varda and LV99. My favorite bosses are Richter Belmont and Doppelganger40. They are good for having a long and interesting fight, if you go with the X-X!V''Q code, vry low level and 0 defense, and a Tyrfing equipped...and 1-5 attack. My favorite weapon is the Gurthang, which is more powerful than the familiar sword. ( If you cast DarkMetamorphosis first...). I love this game, but lately I can't find time to get more percentage, it so demanding get a 0.1% more...so I'm tired of it. A couple questions, huh? Lol, yeah, I've played the game, too, although only once so far.
185.5%, no glitches...hell, I'm don't any of the glitches, not even the bird one (what's that one all about? I've only faced off against Dracula once and it took me a couple minutes or so I, too, have reached the inverted castle. It's part of the game's plot so it's unavoidable and, yeah, it was harder if only because the enemies got deadlier. It was more straightforward, though; none of that "gotta find this item first before I can move on" nonsense. I found all of Alucard's original gear. There are quite a few bosses I thought were pretty cool, but the ball o' people, a.k.a. Granfaloon, was the one that got me going "What the hell? Lol, lil people bunched together and flying off, that's so funny it's Can't say, as I've only played the game once and the best I could manage then was the Alucard Sword. For me, it was a surprisingly fun game, one which I ought to play again sometime. All the cool weapons the others mentioned, but I didn't find meself, are just added incentives. -------------------- |

Highest percent... I would have to say 193%.
Gliches? Nope. Except for the one as a bat. I think there is one in mist form, but i forget. Oh, and the glitch (if it even is one) when fighting Doppelganger10 and 40. Fastest time killing Dracula? About 1 minute. (I had used some combination with the Alucard Shield and one of the rods and the Alucard sword when I was around Lv. 47) Yes, reached the inverted castle. It was at Lv. 28, so I got killed instantly by one of those green skeleton things. Does any one know how to lessen the damage fro those things? I've gotten all of Alucard's stuff, although there are some combinations you can use so there is no need to use the stuff at all. The boss I liked the most was the one who gave me the hardest time: it was that giant thunder Minotuar thing in the Inverted castle (the area where you fight the ball of people in the origional castle) Doppelganger40 was another boss i liked. Oh, and even though its not a boss, i liked the spectral swords alot. Favorite weapon? Uh... I might say either the pentagrams, the combo with the Alucard shield and (i think) the Holy Staff, Alucard Sword (because of the ability tho do a teleport attack), of Medusa's Shield. I had fun playing the game. I didn't bother trying to see the second ending, though, and i havent gotten to see the fourth ending. |

So I just got myself the complete soundtrack for it, track by track, earlier today. The soundtrack sounds amazing. I haven't actually played the game, but I've seen it, and I've played CotM and HoD and've seen a Richter speedrun of SotN. I currently feel tempted to get myself a copy of this and play it over the weekend, despite the fact that I'm hosed over the weekend.
The inverted castle idea seems like a very interesting idea, and I'd really like to feel how that came out. Too bad the (arguably) best Castlevania game ironically doesn't star a whip-wielding Belmont as a (main plot-related) hero. laszlow: Oh, by the way, there is one lone remixed track, and that's "Dance of Illusions". -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I use Mastodon, where I am @[email protected] ( https://sakurajima.moe/@glennmagusharvey ) |

Highest comp%: Been too long since I really played, but the 200.6% mark others listed sounds familiar.
Glitches: None to speak of. Drac speed: Dunno, never timed it. Inverted Castle: Have to to get 200.6% completion. Alucard Armor: Yep. Usually prefer the Walk Armor, though. Fav. Boss: Can't beat the bitter irony of killing Death. Fav. Weapon: Dual Chakrams by far in 1st place -- you can move while throwing them, and with two you can just keep alternating buttons and always have one in front of you, almost like a lawn mower. Fond of dual Heaven Swords and Marsil for actual equips, too. Also use Soul Steal a lot. And while not a weapon itself, the Duplicator makes all the various throwing weapons useful (and fun!). Like it?: Of course, what is there not to like? This post has been edited by red_beard_neo on 19th November 2005 04:45 -------------------- Wasabi Viniagrette: Mix 1/3 C rice vinegar, 2 Tbsp sesame oil, and 2 tsp powdered wasabi. Excellent over cold udon noodles and shiitake mushrooms for a Japanese pasta salad. |

Well, I just got back from thanksgiving break, over which I finally hit 200.6%. I basically went back to the first castle for perhaps the first time in my old file, filled out all of the blank spots and secret passages I had done in the second castle, and then beat dracula again to watch the best ending. It was pretty ridiculous, considering I had a level 99 Alucard and a level 99 Sword familiar. I think beating drac literally took me less than ten seconds. My final equipment setup looked like this:
R: Crissaegrim L: Rune Sword (time-tap square and circle at a 2:1 ratio and you'll have constant Crissy arcs ahead of you and a Verboten every few seconds) Head: Dragon Helm Body: Dracula Tunic Cape: Twilight Cloak Accessory: Ring of Varda Accessory: Ring of Varda Yeah... I went overboard getting every item in the game... it is one of my favorites.... -------------------- |

Highest completion %: 200.6% with Alucard
around 98.7% for the Belmont guy gliches:none Time beat Dracula: under 1 min. Inverted Castle: Of course. You can't claim you've beaten a game unless you have everything and explored everywhere. Find Alucard Armor- Yes. Walk Armor helps me more, though. Favorite Boss- Mmmmm... Probably Death, but that giant ball of dead people was fun to destroy. Favorite Weapon- Alucard Shield and the Holy Rod: Damage and heal!, kind of like Dark Metamorphesis(Is this spelling right?) The game was interesting, but its a bit harder when using the guy with the whip. But some of his attacks are useful and make up for his weakness. -------------------- "The doom of a planet…Crush Punch!" |
