Although your point is basically made in the thread title, please abide to the rules of the forum, in particular, the one about spam. Your post could have more depth in why you think MGS is the best PS1 game or why many do and you disagree. It's generally a good idea to have something to say.

IMHO, Metal Gear Solid's not even the second best Konami game on the PS1, thanks to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Suikoden II. It's a good game, and it's part of a good series, but I don't think it's the best game on the PS1.

It certainly falls into the "GREATEST GAME(S) EVER" category, but their where many GREATEST GAMES EVER for the PS1:

- Final Fantasy 7
- Ape Escape
- Gran Turismo 2
- Ridge Racer Revolution
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Mega Man Legends

the list goes on man, I think those where my Lucky 7

Belive it or not, I have never put the time into beating any MG, but frioom what I've played the games are awesome.

Metal Gear Solid was the game of teh YEAR when it came out tought!

I would definitely not call Metal Gear the best PS1 game ever. I'm all about FFT, so I may be biased

I'd have to disagree with Laslow, Symphony of the Night was an excellent game, no questions asked, definatly one of the top 5 on the Playstation, but Metal Gear Solid was ground breaking. It took the best features of the Metal Gear series and blew it away with an intense cinematic style and brilliant plot that made the entire game feel like you were watching a damn good movie. Throw in it being one of the best games to include voice acting at it's time, challenging difficulty and the bonus of VR missions, there was no shortage of things to do.

Metal Gear Solid beats out Castlevania:SotN and my other Playstation favorite, Final Fantasy VII for the title. It's just a brilliant game.

Well it is one of my favorites thats for sure. Iv'e also seen it turn up in The top ten best ps1 games on quite a few sites and has been #1 a few times as well. Still I don't think it is The best game overall for the ps1 but in my opinion it's ps1's best Tactical action game.

P.S. laszlow is it just me or is your Avatar missing?.

I've only played the GCN remake, which is supposedly not much different. Still the second best game EVER. Second only to MGS 3 of course.

I wasn't a big playstation fan, though. I only have a couple games form the PS, and most of them are FF games. The only exceptions were the first Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.

Metal Gear Solid blows away all Final Fantasy games. At only about 3 hours long, it didn't require the most astute of commitments, yet had every bit as much drama as it's much longer FF peers.

Half-Life, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Red/Blue, and StarCraft beg to differ. '98 was a hell of a year.

And I still have to disagree, D_F, Metal Gear Solid was groundbreaking, but Symphony is my favorite game of all time. It is simply the best 2D game ever, bar none. MG:S is a great game, but give me Castlevania any day. I was probably wrong in saying that Suikoden II is a better game on second thought, but I can't agree with you on the first point. Plus, how can you disagree with the best loading screen ever?

And if I had to name my favorite PS1 games, I'd have to say Castlevania: SOTN, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear: Solid, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Tekken 3, Grandia, Xenogears, Ape Escape (man I forgot how awesome that game was...), and Twisted Metal 2 (mostly for nostalgia's sake).

Moved to General Gaming Topics. Don't know why that took me so long.

I hesitate to call MGS the greatest game on the PS1, since it does have some stiff competition. I will say that it is one of my favorite games for the system, and definitely revolutionary for its time on all levels of play.

Actually IMO the best was ffvii, but then again I never played the ps1 version (though i did play the GC port and was quite Impressed with it).

I wouldn't say the best game on PSX, but it is an incredible game, no doubt about that. The game got its emotional animations like Wolf's last wish to silly things like have to use controller 2 on the fight with Psycho Mantis...(?) ..I'll say it is versatile. Castlevania, Suikoden 2, are good games from Konami...and Resident Evil 2 , which it is not from Konami, but it was good back then.
Metal Gear Solid its good for doing personal challenges, like killing Psycho Mantis without destroying the Statues and with controller 1, or getting the "Big Boss" ranking on extreme. Also its fun seeing the briefing, training at VR training...using the Stealth and Bandana...this game offers a lot of possible ways to have fun.
