Personally, I've yet to find a soundtrack better than Final Fantasy VII's. Uematsu (who has sadly resigned from Square Enix) outdid himself with this one, in my humble opinion. Hearing much of what I have orchestrated is just plain stirring. 'Anxious Hearts', 'Aerith's Theme', and 'One Winged Angel' are just a few of pretty much an entire soundtrack of greatness. Even the battle theme kicks some pretty good ass. Anyhow, opinions, anyone, on a subject often overlooked?

Among my favorites are FFVI's "Terra's Theme", "Aria Di Mezzo Carattere", "Dancing Mad", and its plethora of character themes, so I'd have to go with VI. There isn't a song on that soundtrack that isn't incredible, which is why I personally consider it to be the peak of Nobuo's career.

I like Tactics alot, along with VII, IX, and VI. X and X-2 also had some good songs, but VIII was good as well. However Tactics and VII are kinda tied for first ight now as well.

ffVII
shinra company, one winged angel and J-E-N-O-V-A are my favourite themes there. i am biased cause i only played ffIV, ffVI, ffVII and ffVIII so far. it was a extremely tough choice between ffVI and ffVII however and ffIV's combat music and legendary overland theme wasn't bad either. |

I enjoyed FFIV's music. The "Final Battle" is one of the best ones, and "Melody of Lute" is good. Only downside is that it doesn't have "Kefka's Theme"...

Final Fantasy VI. I've said why in the various similar topics that came before this one, so I'll just leave this one short.

Actually, if there's one thing good about the newer genre, it's the music. I love how it doesn't have that awful square wave or limited instruments, so you can get awesome pieces out of it. FFIX is my fav.

well, right, ffIV is really lovely i am a big fan of this ff version's music score. there is a nice site to download it all too. you probably know it anyways, however here is the link: http://www.ffdownloads.com/ its great of getting the original sountrack of all ff titles in mp3 format and has fast downloadtimes.
recommendations: ffIV: Trojan beauty, main_theme_of_final fantasyIV(overland theme, btw i HATE the celtic moon remix...its horrible and not like the original), all the battle themes ffV: Battle with Gilgamesh ffVI: dancing mad(final battle) also all the battle themes, kefka's theme, cyan's theme and last dungeon ffVII: my all time favourite is: shinra company really worth to listen to it ![]() This post has been edited by MacBest on 18th December 2004 11:50 |

I voted FF7, of course..and I appreciate the lack of FF8 on this poll. FF8 hurts.

Final Fantasy VI follow by Final Fantasy Final Fantasy IX. Some of the music in FF VI is just so great, I never get tired of them.

I prefer FF VIII's music. >_>
But out of the choices provided I would have to say FF IX. This post has been edited by Phunbaba on 19th December 2004 18:49 |

I'm not sure that I can be pinned down to a single best. I will, however, mention my three favorites. FFT, FF6, & FF7

I nulled my vote because you didn't include FF8!
I don't really have a favorite soundtrack... rather, I prefer a few pieces from each soundtrack. I own them all, but what I ended up doing was ripping my favorites from each one and putting them on one disc. -------------------- Music is a mysterious thing... I'd say 6. I could go on on and on about that music, but I'll just say its probably a majority of Nobou's greatest work. Of course I'd prefer it to see FF8 on there, that has some of my other favorite pieces as well, but ff7 would proly be my second (One Winged Angel rox me!)

I would've voted FF8 myself. The Ragnarok theme is great. As are many of the town themes. Conveniently skipped I guess. So my second vote goes to ff7.

uhm, yes, you did indeed forget a very important one (several before me have already told you) -- ff8. ff8 wasn't the best ff. the story cetainly wasn't the most seamless, and although it's legedarily poor writing is often hyperbolised by its most vocal critics, it certainly didn't make any lasting innovations. but the graphics were great, and the music was greater still. from start to end, the 4 CD's worth of uematu-in-his-prime material is nearly flawless. characteristic tracks such as "eyes on me," the newest rendition of the battle music, and laguna's near-mythical "man with a machine gun" are enjoyable pieces of music to listen to, period -- *not* simply as vgbgm. from the choices listed, i'd have to probably choose (and thus, voted) 7, but 4, and 1, are certainly damn close.

FF IV has my favorite music, with classics like the main theme, the overworld theme, and both boss battle themes, and trippy ones like the moon theme.
However, I must say that my two favorite songs from final fantasy come from two other games: The Big Bridge (Gilgamesh music) from FF V and Cid's theme from FF VII. -------------------- |

FF6 has the best music of any game I've ever played, and far surpasses most movies even. I still play the songs on my iPod it's so good (and I love the nostalgia). The ending theme is wonderful- it blends all of the character themes together perfectly. As for individual pieces Celes', Relm's and Terra's themes plus Forever Rachel and Epitaph. Uematsu is incredibly gifted, and thank god for Square deeming video games important enough to invest with good soundtracks.

I've only heard the soundtracks of 1-7 and TA (and paid attention to 3-7 and TA), even though I have the soundtracks for all of 1-9 + T + TA. Still, I voted for FFVI. It's overall the best soundtrack I've heard so far from the FF series.
FFIV is also quite solid overall but isn't as good as FFVI's. FFV and FFVII each have their own several few really kickass tracks that may exceed FFVI's average (and possibly it's best) but they aren't consistent enough to merit my honoring. An honorable mention goes to FFTA. I am particularly impressed by the orchestration there; it's as good as FFVI's or CT's. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Ooh....FF7 has some great emotional music, so I'd have to go with that. I will give props to FFT's and FFIX's tunes which tie for second.

I voted for FFVII as my favorite music tunes are in FFVIII.
The Shinra theme, The Turks theme, Cosmo Canyon theme, and the song in the final battle are my faves in FFVII From FFVIII I really dig the opening theme, the Garden (Balamb) theme (yes, I'm weird), the final battle, and the one that I like the most out of all of them would be the music that sounds during the SeeD mission in Dollet and again for the Garden VS Garden battle. Top-notch stuff from Uematsu. -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh? Not until I fulfill my dream!" Seifer Almasy "The most important part of the story is the ending." IV is great because it's the first time Uematsu experimented with synth orchestration. I'll never forget the dramatic opening music. VII is great it's so atmospheric. The ominous music works perfectly with the dark atmosphere of the game.
But I have to put in another vote for VI. There are just too many great tracks. Each character has a stunning theme, and even tracks that are only used for one location (kefka's tower, magitek factory, floating continent) are phenomenal. |
