I prefer to trust the more detailed image of him that the game gives which would be the menu pic. While it looks like it has purple highlights, I would have to agree with those that said it is because of the palette limitations. They had to use colors that would contrast correctly to show thin lines in the hair (like his eyebrows). Hence they used blues and grays for most of the others. It looks as if they used reds for Edward's.

But if you were to use the battle sprite and look closely, it looks to be all purple with a crown or something as the yellow. But it's so small, you can't really expect a lot of detail in this. That's why I seem to remember a thread awhile back relating to what Rydia is actually wearing.

The field sprite, to me, appears that he has purple hair and the yellow is just a reflection of the light since it is right on top. And this is even smaller than the battle sprite so I wouldn't even want to trust this one.

I agree. I don't think there are enough characters in games that have green hair.
