I beat the game a looong time ago, and I decided to play it again just for kicks. I reached the lampflower forest and Diorre, which is where you learn about the elves, and Carlie. The elder (or king, or whatever) discusses Carlie's parents, Leroy and Sheila - the human and the elf who loved one another. Of course, the humans and the elves were against such a union, but the elf king admits that when Leroy and Sheila perished, they died "without regret"... then the king hid his elven people from the world "to prevent such a thing from ever happening again."
Does this make sense to anyone else? I mean, granted, there's some obvious interracial marriage issues here between elves and humans, but is it world shielding your society from future contact? Especially considering that the leader aadmitted they were happy. Its one thing for the elves to dislike humans on a fundamental level (humans don't really go well together with nature), but then to use a happy union between two of them as reasoning to hide your village is fairly ludicrious. As an aside, Im using Angela, Duran, and Hawk. Duran's going to be a Lord (multitarget healing), Angela will be a Rune Master, and I thought of trying Hawk out as a Rogue (silver dart owns!... but jutsus are better). This is in eventual prep for the dreaded Black Rabbite. We'll see if I have the strength to combat our furry foe! -------------------- Oh sure, I don't have to get kicked in the junk to activate it, but I like it anyway. -- Thief commenting on the difference between Throw and Blue Magic. |

(I think it's been over a year since i've posted so what the hell)
The whole elf-human drama might make more sense if you were from Japan or something... for me its just silly plotline. -------------------- "The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax-- Of cabbages--and kings-- And why the sea is boiling hot-- And whether pigs have wings." |

It's probably just based off of how consistantly throughout time people will always frown upon certain unions of marriage
in medieval nad renaissance europe it was highly frowned upon to marry outside your social class in the early twentieth century president wilson made it illegal to have interracial marriages, because he was a racist. and in our current year (2005) many people still frown upon gay marriage so it really understandable, imagine if a white man married a black woman in 1890's georgia. no group would just isolate themselves in that occurence. it'd be pretty much a guarantee of violence. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Well, I reckon that the elder decided to seal off his village because of the extreme prejudice involved - his daughter and son-in-law may have had a good relationship and "died without regrets", but the negative reaction from the other elves was so great that he probably deemed that such a relationship should never occur again. As for why such a relationship is bad, well, I don't need to go into an explanation as to why racism happens, do I?
And as for your party setup, it isn't bad, but I think it could be a bit better. There really is no such thing as a bad party in SD3, but some make the game a good deal easier. You don't have any stat-ups, stat-downs, or elemental sabers on that team, so you might want to head to the Byzel black market and get some elemental Claws and stat-up Scales to compensate for when you fight the God-Beasts and head in whatever final dungeon you end up in (which of the three is your main character, anyhow?). If I had those three characters, I'd have gone Lord, Grand Devina, and for Hawk any final class. Without Kevin or Carlie you'll definitely want Duran to class change to Knight first for Heal Light, and it's your judgement whether you to multitarget it or get some Saint Saber (which is super-useful if you're hitting the Lise/Hawk final series of dungeons). Still, Lord is probably the more useful of the two, especially if Duran or Angela is your main character (fewer Dark-elemental enemies over there). I don't understand why anyone would ever make Angela a Devlar. The only place you'll be using elemental magics extensively is against the God-Beasts, and you'll want the Sorceress's level 2 spells rather than an extra point of magic power. Whatever. All four of her final classes are basically the same, but Grand Devina is my favorite. The Rune Master's level 3 spells are pretty awesome, but I never seem to get enough use out of them in the final sequence of dungeons to make having a Devlar rather than a Sorceress worthwhile. Hawk is a winner no matter how you set him up, and it's basically the versatility of his Ranger tree versus the offensive prowess of his Ninja tree. The Rogue gets better stats and Silver Dart (probably his only really useful new spell) while the Wanderer gets better spells, notably Lunatic and Aura Wave. Your judgement. On the Ninja side, the NightBlade gets more of a variety of spells and better offense, but the Ninja Master gets to multitarget all of the awesome Ninja spells (a multitarget Thunder Jutsu at the start of a fight against normal enemies RULES) and better stats overall. My favorite Hawk class is probably Nightblade, if for no other reason than Hawk's only multitargeting level 3 special. Any way you go with him is a lot of fun to use, though. Well, Im just going off on a limb here, but as far as the love story goes, im going with elves 101 here, Dragonlance/Some D&D modules
Usually, a love between an Elf and a Human ends in tragedy. The elves are supposed to be the "true embodiment of good" or something. Pure good can breed intolerance, and the whole world can only be seen in black and white. Thusly, Interracial marriages can be seen as a defiance of the Natural Order. No medium ground--its evil. I'm probably confusing more than helping though >_< so if you want to make sense of what I just said, and if you love fantasy novels just like me, read the main series of Dragonlance. -------------------- Neneko is Neneko because Neneko couldn't be Neneko if Neneko wasn't Neneko! --as quoted from Neneko, Mahoraba {Heartful Days} I can stab a man with a thick paperback book thru the ribcage. |
