I don't know if this is already been discussed I took a look at all of the topics, didn't see anything soooo...
I've been experimenting alot with monsters and monster skill in order to freshen up my game. I can bring about some interesting results and combinations. Now I'm playing through the game with 3 monsters Ramza, and a generic Mediator. I was just wondering if anyone else has really tried using monsters as your primary characters in an FFT playthrough? I use... Biggs the Sacred: Has an Accumulate-like ability and Mimic Titan which is just cool ![]() Wilson Jr. the Ahriman (son of Wilson the Flotiball): Look of the Devil is a fun skill to play with. Musashi the Red Dragon: High HP and generally good monster to have around ![]() Anyway what monsters do you use? and how do you feel about the use of monsters in general? I usually keep a Red Chocobo, a Black Chocobo, at least two Tiamats, a Red Dragon, and a Cockatoris (sp?) around when I did a monsters playthrough awhile back. The only other characters I used were Ramza, a generic Wizard/Calculator who also did quite a bit of Talk Skill, and a few of the uniques (particularly Reis). Tiamats are by far the most effective units. Their stats are absolutely incredible (hitting the 70s in PA/MA is normal, 90s is lucky) and only get better if you bring Reis along for the ride (especially with the Dragoner's inherent Monster Skill).

Though I rarely use them (except an occasional Chocobo for ridin') I have nothin' against using monsters in battle. Tiamats, Dragons, and Ahriman's, I think, are pretty cool to have around.

When I get tired of generic characters, I find it in my heart to take in an orphaned animal. Well, maybe it doesn't go down like that--I actually prefer some monsters to regular humans.
I usually try to have a Black Chocobo for transportation reasons, the Byblos for versatility, and a Plague for status effects and torture. Pure beatdown monsters (Tiamats, etc.) don't hold my interest much. Yes, I got an Behemoth, called Yuhakiramesei which was pretty strong with is Giga Flare secret ability ( yes, with Monster Skill),...I liked playing with monsters, but they continously lay eggs.

True, the eggs can be annoying, but when you are focusing your party on monsters; Its always fun to see what you get
![]() I want to eventually beat the game with Ramza and a group of monsters. We'll see how it goes... i have a red chocobo in my team. hes not great, but he deals out way more damage than ramza or agrias and can KO almost anything he targets. his power rivals that of T.G Cid.

well my favorite monster in my party would have to be my red chocobo Snow Wind
not only the best stats out of pretty much everything else(don't really know how it happened but its true) he got bred from two wild chocobos a yellow and another red (I know this because i had gotten rid of all my chocobos before using my mediator to get them) from the moment i got snow wind i only let Ramza ride him mainly because Ramza lacks some of the more distance skillssuch as holy explosion also snow wind came with a brave of 88 pretty sweet huh other than that i once experimented with an all red dragon team, it got boring after a little while... -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

The only trouble with using monsters is the limited character space(gets pretty frustrating sometimes, no?). But I always make sure I have at least one black chocobo, if not a red too. And its still a great idea to keep a mediator in your party. In General, monsters are always a refreshing change if you get sick of generics.
Oh, and no one is stronger than Orlandu to my knowledge ![]() |

I have about 5 special humans (Beowulf, Orlandu, etc.) and the rest of my team is all monsters. Mindflares are always fun, as are the chocobos (no yellow ones, though). I have a Plague (or whatever the red floateyes are) and Cockatrice duo I use to pretty much screw over the opposition. I've never been a fan of pure power, so I don't have any dragons or tiamats. If I recall correctly, I have each type of ghost, morbol, and bomb as well.
I always thought the invite feature was the best part of the game, and wish they'd include that in the regular FF games. Just one empty slot on your team where you could invite any regular monster from the game to your party. Maybe that'll make its way into FFXIII. -------------------- </technology> |

Sleipnir, the 'invite' system is in many/most SRPGs; Disgaea, Tactics Ogre, Phantom Brave. And a few normal RPGs; Dragon Quest games, Shin Megami Tensei. You could try any of those I guess. ^^``
Anyway, I now have two games for FFT. One with all humans and one monster, the other with three humans and all the rest monsters. It's a great variaty. ^^ -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

I guess there really is no most powerful monster, but i like black and red chocobos. They are pretty fast, can do lots of damage from a good distance, and you can ride them lilke a horse.
to get one on your team, use a mediator to invite one, or just let a yellow choco keep breeding till you get a red or black one. Well, all the monsters usually excel at some fields, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't rank the Tiamat in the top two or three. Through-the-roof stats, great multi-hitting skills, great movement (Fly). Dark Whisper is just icing on the cake.
I'd take a black chocobo, though, because they can fly, you can use them as transportation, and they can pack a punch. Their HP leaves something to be desired, though, but that's immaterial if they're only in battle to haul humans around. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I, also like Chocoos for transportation. Although they're mediocre at best, Skeletons and Ghouls are real cool monsters. As for the question, I'd echo Shotgun and say the Tiamat, with King Behemoth as a close second.

If I were going to take a monster into battle, it would probably be a black chocobo (Mostly for transportation)
Though, the special abilities of the King/Dark Behemoths are quite nice and so i may use them as well. |

I used to keep a Red Chocobo until I got to later stages in the game, and the enemies I faced would annihilate the poor thing mercilessly. Choco Meteor is beastly, but they can't evade attacks as well as a person. This goes for any monster. So...
If you don't mind healing them (or letting them die) frequently, they can be very useful. ![]() |

I get a Vampire and Tiamat. Before i always used my Ultima Demon but i started a new game and lost my gameshark. is there way to invite ultima demons? My assassin can allure them but they use ultimaguest to hurt themselves. Maybe Reis can punch them to join?

Ultima Demons can never be invited; the same goes for Apandas and Archaic Demons. On the other subject, Reis has auto-Train so if she hits something and puts it in Critical status, it'll join...well, provided it's a monster.
