What Enix games have you played, and what do you think of them? Right now I'm playing Illlusion of Gaia. It is very Zelda-esque as I've said on another thread. It's pretty good, and I like how the main character fights with a flute.

This is only for Enix games, not Square games, but if what you say is about a sequel to an Enix game, like Dragon Quest, then you can mention that here.

Grandia and Grandia II are an awesome pair of RPGs; everyone should definitely give them a shot, particularly if you own a Saturn or Dreamcast and can thus play the original versions. The feel and storytelling methods of those two games remind me strongly of Skies of Arcadia (my favorite RPG of all time, tied with CT) and Miyazaki's Laputa (possibly my favorite Miyazaki film, and I love Miyazaki), which is absolutely awesome. Definitely try them out.

I've only recently been getting into the Dragon Warrior/Quest series, but mostly because I can tilda my way through lots of tedious necessary leveling. Of the ones I've played (I-V), IV and V are definitely my favorites, and I recently discovered that a patch to DQVI exists so I'll be getting in to that one reasonably soon.

I used to own Illusion of Gaia, and three or four years ago I played the other two games in the series, Soul Blazer and Terranigma. The series is pretty good overall, and the plot and style of each game is very similar; I liked Terranigma the best out of those three.

I've owned Valkyrie profile for around three months now, bought off of a friend who was selling off his RPG collection, but I'm ashamed to say that I haven't started it yet pinch.gif . In fact, over the summer I bought something like eight or nine PS1 and PS2 rpgs (at bargain prices, of course), compelled to complete my collection, but have only started maybe half of them. My friend Dan (the one whom I bought VP off of) says that it's his favorite PS1 RPG other than Suikoden II (which I also got from him) and Final Fantasy Tactics. That bodes well.

I've played Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. I'm not very far in the former, but I've played the latter several times without beating it. I like the gameplay, but I wish you could buy items or gain levels or do something to build up for the end of the game.

I can't think of any other Enix games besides the ones mentioned by Laszlow, and I haven't played them.

I belive the 7th Saga was created by Enix. That game is said to be 100 hours long. More like 100 hours of pure leveling madness. That is the one game that made me cry because of the difficulty. I don't remember another game were getting up to 10 or more levels was required for the first dungeon. I've beaten it once on an emulator, when I had a turbo mode. I have yet to get farther than the second rune on the SNES. Just too much leveling. UGH!

And Illusion of Gaia is a VERY good game. I suggest you all go out and buy it. I only played Grandia 1, and that wasn't too bad. Dragon Warrior/Quest wasn't bad either.

I loved soul blazer when I was young. That was a quality game.

Another Enix game I played was called Brainlord. It was a mix of an RPG and a platformer.

Out of all Enix games, Star Ocean 2 was my favorite due to its diversity, and all the random s*** you don't really have to do but can anyway. Its like a MMORPG, but better and more fun.
Another Enix gem was Dragon Warrior 3. That was THE game I played before FFIII(america), about age 4. 11 years later, i get it for the GBC and completley beat it except for the coin collection.
Illusion of Gaia was also a lot of fun. That was the first game I spent over an hour trying to beat the final boss.
Aah, the memories...
I have recently purchased Star Ocean 3 and just started to do the tradeskill stuff. However, I think I'll pass on it.
Speaking of Enix Games, does anyone think DW7 is going to be good?

^^ DW VII came out in 1998 or so. DW VIII looks like it's going to be one of the best RPGs of the year, IMHO, as it combines DQ's big three (Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama, who are basically DQ's versions of Sakaguchi, Amano, and Uematsu) and Level-5's groovy art style. I remember reading an IGN preview that was pretty excited about it, and I'll probably preorder it sometime in the next few weeks (comes out in late November sometime).

And yeah, I forgot Star Ocean. Star Ocean II was a mixed bag, fun at times, great music, good plot, but sometimes the side plots and battle system was pretty poorly designed. I picked up Star Ocean III at a summer sale at my local GameCrazy along with Phantom Brave and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for a total of $26, but I haven't played any of them yet....

Star Ocean II and III are the main ones I own at the moment. The newest installment doesn't seem as great as its PSX counterpart, but it's still playable, albeit less intriguing. Never played any Dragon Warrior games, sadly, and as I told a moderator friend today who had received a DW8 demo in the mail, that's probably tantamount to treason. tongue.gif

Star Oceans are good. Just expect the opposite of Xeno- games. Not great story, but great gameplay.

No one's mentioned Terranigma, it's the third in the Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Time series. Terranigma's one of my favorite games of all time. For some reason it just hit me in the right spot, it's the only game I ever considered doing a novelization for. It'd be sweet.

There's probably some more I forgot, but Enix is a pretty good company. (err...was)

(I apologize for alota stuff. I apologize to Lazlow for mentioning Terranigma first. I apologize for apologizing alot.)

I mentioned Terranigma. It's a great game - the dungeons feel a bit like Zelda, but it's quite a solid game in its own right and the plot is decidedly un-Zelda. The twist between the third and fourth chapters was absolutely crazy and unexpected. It's sort of too bad I never managed to play that game on a cartridge, but the rom is tons of fun.
