I have a feeling I've wasted about 10 hours in my game. In the Giant of Babil I spent about 5 hours stealing Alerts from the Searchers in there thinking it would be cool to deck out my party all with Adamant armor. So I finally got the first pink tail after about 2 hours and spent another 3 trying to get a second. I'm now thinking that you can only get the one I already got and I wasted all this time. Does anyone know the answer before I spend another second on it?

Well, I haven't actually tried this yet, but I have a hunch about this. It depends on the following question:

After you get your first Adamant Armor, does the armor-making guy talk to you differently than he did before you had the pink tail?

Because...for the pink tail itself, I'm pretty sure you could get more than one, although it's just a mind-bogglingly low combined probability ( p(2 tails) = p(tail) ^2 ). Thing is, though, I doubt the guy will make any more Adamant Armor for you.

I'm pretty sure that I've cheated and given the tail guy more than one Pink Tail. What I remember for sure is that he doesn't change his speech at all after you give it to him. He still says "Give me a tail", or something close to that. You're one hearty adventurer to try and get more than one Pink Tail, and getting the first one in 2 hours is actually very good.

I've heard it mentioned somewhere here before that if you had more than one pink tail in your inventory and you traded for the Adamant Ore, you only get one ore per transaction, but you lost all the tails. Moral of the story, only carry and trade one tail at a time. No clue as to whether this was true or not.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if his message changed or not. But even if it didn't, the game still might not have more than one. When I saw it in the Items Won window, it was yellow just like other unique items such as the Tower Key and the [Dark] Crystal. The creators of the game might've just thought no one would try for more than one. Hell, I spent days trying to get just one on the SNES version and never got one. Needless to say, I gave up on that one.

Yah, you lucked out getting just one tail.

Back in my FF4 days I spent at least 12 hours trying to get one, with no luck.

You can get as many adamant armors as you have tail to pay for.
