So, my friend is a punk. I was telling him how much I've discovered I like FMA. He's like, oh yeah, it's great. too bad, Envy kills Ed in the end.
WTF! Why would he tell me that! anyways, True/False? |

Well, if ye really wanna know, toward the end of the series, Ed and Lust actually fall in love and get married. They even have lots and lots of half human/half homunculus children, but they turn out to be a bunch of whiney brats, so Ed uses them in his ongoing efforts to revive his mother (yep, he was still secretly plotting this). Unfortunately, the equation calls for FULLY human sacrifices and Ed ends up jest transmuting the kids into a bloody mess. So Ed goes to Envy:
Ed: Uh, I sorta tried to bring my mom back to life and sorta killed the kids...these things happen in alchemy, right, Envy? What should I tell Lust? Envy: Oh, don't worry about it, I'll take care of it, hee hee. So he/she tells kills Ed and tells Lust that he too is part of that bloody mess and blah blah blah... Hell, I don't know. True or not, I don't think he should tell ye anything like that, so yes, he is a punk. Did he sound serious? I, for one, would rather jest watch and enjoy the show and find out for meself later. Wow Galsic, for a moment I actually believed you, up until the homunculi babies. But I don't know either, but that'd be one hell of a mood killer.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Like when Spike dies at the end of Cowboy Beebop I suggest you use the Spoiler thing next time. -------------------- |

I personally haven't gotten that far into the series to be able to tell you with any real credibility, but, given the theme of the series, I very much doubt it. I mean, Ed was/is an essential part to what the baddies are planning, along with whathisface, the Flame Alchemist.

Even if it is true, I'm definitely still planning to watch the rest.
But, he did sound pretty serious when he said it (and no offense to him, he's a terrible liar). |

Quote (Bum's Rush @ 29th September 2005 19:05) I suggest you use the Spoiler thing next time. Why would I do that? What I said before was jest a bunch of crap I made up Quote (Dragon_Fire) I personally haven't gotten that far into the series to be able to tell you with any real credibility, but, given the theme of the series, I very much doubt it. I share this sentiment. I don't think the show would focus as much as it did on Ed jest to get rid of him so quickly. As for the end of the series, I don't think it's even complete in Japan, though I'm not aware of any manga the series may be based on... -------------------- |

I've read bits 'n' pieces of the ending of the anime on another forum (yeah, I'm just a stickler for spoilers), and although I skipped 'round quite a bit, I think I got a good idea of what happens, including the answer to your question. If you're curious, read on, though I'd recommend against it (FMA ending spoilers):
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Ed IS killed by Envy, but he's then revived by Al thanks to the Philosopher's Stone. A Gate of Alchemy* is opened, revealing technology superior to alchemy in a time period equivalent to the early 1920's in the real world, known as the Other World. Ed sacrifices himself to restore Al's body by passing through the gate, landing him in London in soul-form (I think), while Al remains in the anime's world of Amestris. Al's body is returned, having remained in the gate the entire time, never aging. His memory of events following the transmutation accident are lost since his body, and thus memories, are that of his 9-year-old self. So Ed basically no longer exists in the world the anime takes place in, but he's still technically alive in some sense of the word. * The Gate of Alchemy is where all alchemic power stems from, but only a soul can contact it. When Ed and Al performed the human transmutation on their mother they unknowingly opened a Gate, which Al's body was absorbed by. When Ed looked into it he was granted the ability to perform alchemy without a transmutation circle. Of course, some of this could very well be flawed as I haven't seen the ending myself. I'm only going by heresay till then. I don't even know if the finale has even been aired over here or just in Japan (and I believe it was last year when it aired there). A Full Metal Alchemist movie is due to come out soon as a 'sequel' to the ending. It should clear a lotta things up. And Galsic, the series IS based on a manga. In fact, much of the anime, with the exception of the early episodes, differs from it greatly. Sorry Galsic, that was intended for Kane, why would I tell you to use a spoiler alert for a made up spoiler? Though it would've been funnier.
