I was reading GMH's topic about FFV's soundtrack and I read on what he wrote about himself supporting FFV's sounds and explaining that there is a difference between the PSX and the SNES. Well, I then decided to head on to the Opinions on FFV thread.
I've heard 3/4 of the FFIV fanboys stating that FFV's graphics are horrible, or atleast not very good compared to FFIV's. So I decided on posting this poll thread and show you a few screens to compare FFV's and FFIV's graphics. Either love FFV's graphics or love FFIV's graphics. I'm not voting because I want people to decide for themselves.. I think FFV's is better, imo.. FFIV's graphics don't suck imo it's just that they are too bright (town, castle, inside, etc.).. EDIT: Sorry, I was on a rush and I couldn't post all the imgs so I had to link them.. It would be appreciative if someone would organize it. Thanks. Moderator Edit No. Your thread, you do the work. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 21st August 2005 23:09 |

FFV seems to have better shading and just a tiny bit more detail than FFIV. Neither compare to VI. As far as character sprites go I think that FFIV is just a bit better but that's just me.
From just comparing the two world map shots you can see that FF5 has a bit more depth in color and shade than FFIV. -------------------- "You broke my f***ing sitar, mother f***er." -Anton A. FFV's are better, like GooseKnight said FFV has beeter shading and detail than FFIV, although FFVI is better than both.

Which one deserves a medal? I'd say IV.
FFV's graphics were barely a hair above FFIV's, what with more time spent on shading and minor details like snow. FFIV's sprites were alot better. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Well, I can't see all the examples you posted (maybe less than 20%) so just change them to links or actually have them show up.
There's only a years worth of difference between the two carts, so there isn't much in the way of revolutionary going on with the graphics in FFV. The overworld almost looks exactly the same (except the snow is dirtier on the mountain tops in FFV). The town scenes of FFV resemble FFVI stylistically, but that doesn't make it necessarily better. Same goes with the caves. I voted for FFIV because huge improvements weren't made going up to FFV. Maybe a few tweaks here and there, but not "OMG! IT'S WONDERFUL" (as with my latter reaction in 1994 to FFVI). As for your complaint about the 'brightness' of FFIV, I think it's a good contrast. I was comparing the level of brightness of the cave and town in FFV and there's not much difference. With FFIV, there's an abrupt change in the level of 'sunlight' in say a normal town and that of a cave, where you get more a dramatic effect if there's more difference. Another good example of this is the battle fields of the forest and plains. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" Yeah...some syntax problems there....
Anyway, FFV had much better graphics than FFIV in that place where it counts: Battles. Just compare the final boss in each game: *Spoilers I guess…* http://www.videogamesprites.net/FinalFanta...0NeoExdeath.gif Neo X-Death http://www.videogamesprites.net/FinalFanta...%20Zeromus2.gif There is a clear increase in the complexities of the images, as well as a moderate increase in detail between the two games. FFV wins hands down in the graphics department, even if the change wasn’t as drastic as was seen between FFV-FFVI. I don't know how you forgot to close so many tabs. All you do is highlight the URL for the picture and press "alt + g" and it does it for you. Oh well.
Anyways, I've always liked the graphics of FFV. It sorta takes the point away of comparing when a lot of the comparisons have "not included" for one game and like three pictures for the other. Sorta biased. But anyways, like I said, I've always liked the graphics of FFV just because it's nothing too over-the-top, and it's consistant. Hard to put it into words, really. If you know what I mean it makes perfect sense, but if not, just ignore that point. Plus, FFV had better boss graphics in my opinion, and a killer final boss graphic and background. There were some pretty decent animations, too (Grand Cross, anyone? That blows Big Bang out of the water all day), and often-comical job costumes which added a lot to the appeal. Well, I'm dry. No more examples for me at the moment. FFV "takes the medal" for me. -------------------- Is PJ |

FFV has better graphics, but the characters sprites look better in FF IV. And yes VI is the better looking of the SNES era!

Overall, FFV has better graphics (not surprising as it came out later). However, I will say that I prefer the character sprites from FFIV

Well, I guess FFV has marginally better graphics by virtue of coming later chronologically. I don't believe that the major complaint with FFV's graphics as compared to FFIV's is that FFIV's are necessarily better, per se, but that FFV's graphics are barely an improvement compared to that of, say, FFVI. While there are notable differences between the graphics of FFIV and FFV, FFVI's graphics are worlds apart (and many times more sophisticated) than either of the two.
Graphical enhancement is kind of a moot point in the first place, seeing as Final Fantasy V is inferior to Final Fantasy IV in virtually all other respects. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I had just finished playing IV, and i went to start a new file on V. As i saw the sprites i was like:
"AAGGGHHH!!! Where have the good graphics gone?" In all seriousness, i was certain that IV had a much better load of graphics than V. That opinion is still with me now, and it shall never change. |
