Well, so much for procrastination. If you've played Kirby Superstar, you'll know about The Arena, a boss-rush mode that lets you choose any weapon specialty at the beginning, then gives you a limited choice in between battles. So, after I kinda got the hang of completing the entire Arena series, I started to do something more interesting:

A single class weapon challenge.

I've NEARLY completed Hammer, until I was fighting the 'computer virus' and then it made me take stone, which I then sucked at. And I lost...and I was doing rather well too!

Then I got mad, and took on stone. After two unsuccessful runs, stone, ironically, the weapon that I had always VERY rarely used playing the rest of the game, was my first SWC completed.

Has anyone else messed with this?

Edit
Oh, by the way, Kirby Superstar is for SNES.

I happen to love Kirby Superstar, I think I would say it's one of my favorite games of all time. In fact, I might just go play it right after this post. I've beat the game quite a few times, and to completion. I simply can't get enough of this game.

I must say that Arena is not my favorite game mode, but it was a nice bonus for working through everything else. I think you have an interesting challenge on your hands, but it almost seems too easy. Some powers, such as sword, cutter, bomb, fighter, mirror, and possibly yo-yo hardly sound like a challenge. However, on the other hand, powers like jet, parasol, wheel, and wing are probably really hard to use against some bosses.

I might give it a whirl, I don't usually fancy "challenges", but I just want to play Kirby again pirate.gif

WOOT!!! I finally did a Hammer SWC. I think I even have my best time, too--11:18.51.

This particular boss rush mode is harder than, but shorter than, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance's Boss Rush mode.

Kirby SuperStar is one of the awesomest platformers you can find for the SNES, and anyone who enjoys Kirby games at all absolutely needs to find/emulate it now.

I have to say that The Great Cave Offensive is my favorite, but the Arena is pretty awesome as well. I remember overwhelmingly using the Plasma weapon (by "building static" by running in place and then blasting... crude but effective....) in that mode, and possibly unintentionally did one of those SWC games in doing so, but I think I only did it once to nail that 100% mark. In fact, it's been so long since my temporary obsession with that game that I probably couldn't beat the arena on my old save file if I tried.

Oh, and GMH, Aria of Sorrow's boss rush mode owns Harmony of Dissonance's boss rush, especially since you can use either Soma or Julius if you've unlocked both modes (it's shorter, but awesomer, which actually describes AoS pretty well in general). I only wish that Circle of the Moon had a boss rush, because the bosses there are WAY more difficult than the simple Harmony bosses and also tougher than Aria's Hard Mode bosses.

GMH, I did this awhile back and I beat it with almost every weapon. I know there are a few I didn't do, but I used to be so obsessed with the game, I beat the Arena 10-15 times per day, playing everyday for months.

My best weapon is Ninja, for some strange reason. There's just something cool about being a Ninja in that game. My worst, by far, was Sleep. That was a tough challenge ( laugh.gif )

Anyways, I haven't played in awhile, so I forgot if you could have a partner in the Arena. I thought you could, but I'm not sure. If so, do you allow the use of the partner in your SWC?

Yeah, The Arena allows a partner. Problem is, sometimes they're helpful, and sometimes they're annoying. For example, if you're battling Chameleo Arm, for which the best strategy is no weapon at all (use the Paint blobs to hit him with Paint, and try to avoid swallowing two blobs at once to avoid Mix), you might be waiting for him to spit the blobs on one side of the screen, while your helper is on the other, and C.A. aims for your helper, not Kirby.

On the other hand, though, while battling the Computer Virus, they can act as an extra target to divert "attacks" from the various bosses. Things I so far can't avoid in that battle: "attacks" (all three), ice spell (witch), eyes gleam (evil knight). (Unless Kirby has Stone, which can make him invincible.)

I don't use a partner in the SWC, except occasionally in the Waddle-Doo battle, where anything can kill it, but it's just a matter of timing; I can create a helper, swallow the Waddle-Doo, absorb ("no good", of course), and then 'un-create' the helper and regain the ability.

As a sidenote, even if you have a helper, after you battle the Heart of Nova, you won't have the helper anymore.

Edit
WOOT

Completed Plasma and Bomb SWC. I got my record time so far on Bomb--9:52.50.
