Pretty much self explanatory. Relm's painting a portrait of Ultros. I did this particular watercolour in bits and pieces. I painted on it for about 15 minutes at a time stretched out over several days. The drawing itself I did in one shot though.
Media: pencil, watercolour, a little bit of CG for the sky (since for whatever reason the blue wasn't scanned in.....) Relm doing an oil of Ultros -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

I saw this when you posted it in chat, and it looks fantastic. I'm not usually a big fan of this style of drawing, but I love this! It fits perfectly with the style of the game. Great job, Kame!

This is amazing. Amazingly, amazingly good. Easily the best of your work I've seen, and as your stuff is consistantly good, that's saying something. This brings it up to a whole new level, though. I adore the angle, the watercolors, the interpetation of Ultros, Relm's back... everything. Brava.

Excellent watercolor.
I love the rocks, Ultros, and Relm's head cloth thingy. This makes me really want to get more experience with watercolor. The shading is also subtle and nice. Very very good. I kinda don't want to point this out, but Relm's right arm has a left hand on it. Blarg X3 -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Amazing, plain 'n simple. I love Ultros' expression; it's almost as if he's being sarcastic with the cheery look, which suits him splendidly.
And since I can't say it enough, your watercoloring is fantastic. ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Indeed it is, I'm still getting used to water coloring. The expression on his face is priceless.

Yeah, it's amazing how much better my stuff looks if I actually spend time on it.
gweh? I fail to see the left hand on the right considering that the thumb is nearest to the body on that hand. I probably should have defined it better with the ridge that you would see looking at the angle (instead of it giving it a slight impression of a forward look). Sorry about that lack of definition. Yeah, the rocks have an Asian feel to them. I drew and painted them with that in mind. The mistiness I think adds a happy mood to the piece as a whole. What really prompted this pic is was a realization I had while teaching a class to a bunch of Japanese kids. I was giving them a lesson not on only drawing animals with simple shapes but also a bit about atmospheric perspective. In the background was a large river that I rendered to seem very wide. I looked at it, and realized that my Crayola crayon examples had been showing a lot more depth than what I had giving my fanart. And these were things that I could produce very easily and quickly. So, I decided what was missing was some background stuff to make my fanarts standout a bit better (or at least come up to par with my freakin' kid examples). Had a bit of a lesson of practice what I preach. Watercolour as a whole lends itself great to doing fanart. It's relatively inexpensive, (for the most part) non toxic, won't poison you with fumes, and is fairly easy to clean up. I know you CG babies have a hard time parting with your modern ways (believe me, I was there once) but give traditional a try. It may seem slighting daunting at first because of watercolour's lack of forgiveness (once it's down, it doesn't come off.....easily) but keep on persisting and you might be pleasantly suprised at the results. The place at where to start is with some basic watercolour washes. Anyways, enough of me tooting watercolour's horn. Which brings an interesting point: if I love watercolours so much, why did I make Relm painting Ultros in oil? ![]() -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" I love... love... LOVE traditional media. I have something like 600 pieces of FF6 fanart saved to my harddrive (just checked; 790) and I'd be surprised if 25% of them were CG. Traditional media in combination with backgrounds makes me swoon with art-lust. Like I said earlier, it brings fanart up to a completely different level.

Although I feel the image doesn't necessarily completely represent the in-game occurance, I adore how Ultros turned out here. Wonderful job!

Not only my favourite thing you've ever produced, but quite possibly the single greatest piece of FF fanart I've ever seen. I can't find fault in it; stylistically, it's brilliant, and I prefer it, even, to Amano's official work. Ultros and Relm are spot on, the whole thing is stunning. Kudos.

Er, I'm getting an error message. "The network path was not found." With all the rave reviews, I want to see this piece!
