This is some totally made up Vectorian proaganda, distibuted to soldiers, general, nobles, and diplomats. It was "written" 2 years or so before FF6 begins. it's not exactly thrilling, nor is it conventional, but I have always felt the Magitek arsenal and the Magitek technology as a whole needed some expansion and additional factual information... so I made it up myself
![]() It's in submissions because that's the eventual aim of these two "fics": as site submissions whenever they're accepted again. The Magitek Arsenal Part One: Introduction The Vectorian Federation’s Magitek weaponry is the most advanced fighting technology the world has ever seen. Discovered in 979AWM by Professor Tekin and his assistant, a doctor called Cid whose full name must be kept classified, the technology was developed over the next five years with military applications. In 985, A prototype X-1 suit was tested, and the Vectorian Military purchased the suits for use the next year, designated as the Vm-1 after modifications, finding great use in combat during the closing stages of the Veldtland North War in 985. The Magitek engines found uses elsewhere soon after, and Tekin became Vector’s greatest inventor. Tragically, he was killed in an accident in 991, when an experimental engine overheated and vented the superheated gases inside into the unfortunate genius. The Magitek engine found use in the navy, the marines, the army, and even helped give birth to the newest branch of the armed forces, the Air Force. Currently consisting of the 1st Air Force division, it has 2 regiments of fighters, 1 of bombers, 1 of cargo aircraft, and 3 of ‘Airborne Infantry’. Magitek even enhances the individual soldier: Magitek infusion grants soldiers phenomenal battlefield abilities, including greatly improved night vision, enhanced senses, and it is even rumoured some soldiers with mental prowess have been able to use magic! Magitek is cited as the future. But it is ironically from the past, using the shards of Magicite that are dug up at the mines in places such as Keval: battlefields from the War of the Magi. The shards of crystals found there are of two types: ‘Pure’ Magicite, a much sought after rarity, and ‘New’ Magicite, created from the crystallised bodies of other creatures affected by the magic energies after death. Magitek has made Vector great: and shall soon make the world a safer, cleaner, more prosperous and peaceful place! Part Two: The Soldiers Part Three: The Vehicles Magitek vehicles are used by every branch of Vector’s military. The Navy has Magitek-powered ships. The Air Force’s flyers use Magitek engines. The Marines Vmlc-1 Landing craft, famous for speeding up the river to land at Suso city in Zozo, where the Vectorian ambassador had been kidnapped by dissidents last year, achieves it’s immense speed by Magitek engines. And of course, the Vm- series of walkers is powered by Magitek. Army and Marine Walkers The most famous Magitek vehicles. The walkers are on two or four legs, and can carry far more than a chocobo or horse. Vm-3 ‘Ghesthal’ Light Walker Type: Light multipurpose bipedal walker. Primary Armaments:up to a 25mm Beam Cannon. Secondary Armaments: 1 optional .50 calibre machinegun (pintle-mounted in Crewman cockpit). Optional Smoke Launchers (mounted on legs). Crew:1 Top Speed: 25mph The Vm3 is the most common Magitek walker, entering service in 990 and fully replacing all Vm1 walkers by 998. Light, fast, and packing a deadly punch, it is a truly amazing all rounder, an ample replacement for the humble horse or chocobo cavalry! Vm-4 ‘Emperor‘ Medium Walker Type: Medium bipedal war walker Primary Armaments: 60mm blast cannon Secondary Armaments: .50 machinegun or up to 30mm beam cannon. Optional Smoke Launchers (mounted on legs). Crew: 1 Top Speed: 25 mph A heavier loaded vehicle carrying a larger, main battle, cannon, and better armour for the crewman, used by both the Army and Marines. Vm-5a ‘Stormtrooper‘ Artillery Walker Type: Medium quadrapedal Artillery Walker Primary Armaments:6 or 9 inch Blast Artillery weapons Secondary Armaments: 25mm Beam cannon OR .50 Machine gun. Optional Smoke Launchers (mounted on legs). Crew: 2 pilots plus 3 weapons crew Top Speed: 18mph Primarily developed for the Marines and Airborne Forces for field artillery, the 5A saw modifications performed on it‘s design to create the 5B for the Army, but the Army also adopted the 5A‘s heavier long ranged weaponry rig up. Vm-5b ‘Stormtrooper‘Close Assault Walker Type: Medium quadrapedal walker Primary Armaments: 60mm Blast cannon or 30mm Beam cannon Secondary Armaments: EITHER 2 x .50 Machineguns, 2 x 25mm Beam Cannons, 2 x Close Combat arms (Chainsaws or ‘crabs claws‘ energy fists), or a mix of the weapon sets. Optional Smoke Launchers (mounted on legs). Crew: 2 (Pilot, gunner) Top Speed: 25 mph A truly fearsome weapon, purpose-built for the assault. Heavy armour in the rear and sides, a Blast cannon, two machineguns or beam cannon, or chainsaw attachments to clear away some obstacles (or enemy soldiers!), the 5B was built for the Army to rectify some city combat problems suffered by Magitek suits, and as an added bonus, will also excel outside cities, in woodland areas. Vector‘s best medium-grade, and some commanders feel best overall, Magitek armour suit. Vm-2c ‘Steelman‘ Heavy Walker Type: Heavy War Walker, bipedal Primary Armaments: 75mm Blast Cannon Secondary Armaments: EITHER 2 x twin-linked (2 machineguns that fire at the same target) .50 Machineguns, 2 x twin-linked 25mm Beam Cannons, 2 x Close Combat arms (Chainsaws or ‘crabs claws‘ energy fists), or a mix of the weapon sets. Optional Smoke Launchers (mounted on legs). Crew: 2 Top Speed: 15 mph The second Magitek armour introduced, slow, ponderous, but tough, and powerful. Not as agile as smaller lighter suits, but makes up for it in it‘s survivability and sheer awesome power in it‘s 5-inch beam cannons. Navy and Marine Craft Vm/nlc-2N ‘Speedturtle‘ lander Type: Landing Boat Primary Armaments: Twin-linked .50 machine guns Secondary Armaments: 6x Mortar tube launchers Crew: 3 standard plus up to twenty passengers Top Speed: 30 MPH/26 Knots Famous for it‘s use in the daring raid to rescue the Vectorian Ambassador in Zozo, the loc-2 is a landing craft well capable of self defence. It‘s machineguns are fearsome enough, but the six mortar tubs that can be fired by the crew to give smoke or ‘frag‘ to cover the cargo are also deadly. Vm/nsc-3N ‘Godhammer‘ Gunboat Type: Gunboat Primary Armaments: Prow 60mm Blast cannon battery of 2. Secondary Armaments: 3x .50 machine guns (Port, Starboard, Stern), 6x Mortar launchers Crew: 5 standard plus up to ten passengers Top Speed: 25MPH/ 21 knots A new idea of the Navy and Marines, a lighter, smaller, boat to provide support for landing teams in close, and even take on enemy warships if need be! Three of these gunboats accompanied the Marine landing force in the race ‘up the river‘ in Zozo, and were instrumental in providing support fire to the marines. These boats are officially unnamed, but the crew of them often nickname the craft. Names such as ‘VNS Baby Vector‘ and ‘VNS Driftwood‘ are often banded about. Air Force and Navy Aircraft Airships are the most promising inventions in both Military and Civilian terms since the discovery of Magitek, and that both new fields are growing up hand in hand is a benefit to both. Whilst two private aviators pioneered the first larger airships using a scrapped steam system they modified in Albrook, Vector‘s planners decided to develop a Magitek fuelled system. The result was the XAF-0 Engine, which was modified into making the VAF-1 ‘Birdman‘ fighter. Aircraft development has soared, and whilst not combat tested, the military planners are optimistic as to the potential of the new ‘airborne‘ forces. VAF-1 ‘Birdman‘ Type: Light Airship Primary Armaments: 20mm Beam Cannon Secondary Armaments: 2x .50 machine guns (wings). Crew: 1 Top Speed: 80mph The Birdman fighter is a most useful development. It‘s flying abilities give it the power to see an enemy from above, and attack that enemy. Able to not only scout, it can assault, with it‘s beam cannon or machineguns. A Naval variant, the VAF-1N Seabird, exists, and is carried on some larger ships, and also will be carried aboard the new ‘aircraft carrying battleship’, the Imperial Majestyl, currently being built and scheduled to be launched on the Emperor’s Birthday of the year 1000. VAF-2 ‘Bumblebee‘ Type: Airship Primary Armaments: Bomb bays. Secondary Armaments: 4x .50 machine guns (Port, Starboard), 1x 75 mm Magitek Blast Cannon (Prow) Crew: 2 Pilots, 5 Gunners Top Speed: 60mph The Bumblebee is an artillery development, able to drop massive explosives onto targets from above, and even see if the weapon has hit! Armed with the bombs, Magitek blast cannons, and machineguns, the ‘bomber‘ airships may soon be ‘battleships of the sky‘! A smaller naval variant, called the Seabee, is being manufactured. VAF-3 ‘Skyhorse‘ Type: Cargo Airship Primary Armaments: Unarmed Secondary Armaments: Unarmed Crew: 2 pilots plus up to fifty passengers, or 10 light Magitek suits/5 medium suits Top Speed: 60mph The Skyhorse is unarmed, but do not think it useless for that! It can carry equipment and soldiers, and these qualities make it obviously useful. Whereas Navy and Marine landing craft are limited to attacking costal/river areas only, the Airships can strike anywhere: and with more soldiers! A Skyhorse can carry an entire platoon of men, and a squadron of light Vm-3 Magitek armour suits! The ‘beachhead‘ formed by the deployed airborne army can even be reinforced and supplied by airships! As if that was not enough, the Airborne Army can land at ANY point, meaning that they can capture areas behind enemy lines, bringing faster victory! Also with a naval variant, this time, the Seahorse, a slightly smaller ship. Part Four: The Weapons Magitek weapons are of three categories: Beam, Blast, and Artillery. Beam functions like a conventional rifle in a way, in that it fires at the enemy a powerful damaging shot. But rather than a bullet, the beam fires a bolt or even a stream of energy. Blast cannons function similarly to current cannons and field guns, in that they fire an explosive projectile. This projectile is in fact, an orb of energy like that of the beam cannons, which, upon striking matter large enough to absorb or spread the energy, causes an explosion. A fast moving field gun or cannon has an obvious benefit! Artillery hurls similar projectiles to the blast over longer ranges, with larger projectiles. The vast energy they need generally means few Magitek suits could use an artillery-sized weapon, the exception being the 5A Stormtrooper‘s artillery cannon, which is separately powered from the rest of the 4-legged machine, and refulled in about 1 minute with canisters of Magitek fuel. The advantage of these weapons is that rather than needing to fire, eject the spent shell, and reload, one can fire up to 20 shots before requiring a refuel, saving time and also increasing the amount of firepower given out! Beam cannons 20mm V3C1 The most common beam cannon. Mountable on all Magitek suits, and most other vehicles. It also exists carried on a carriage as a support artillery piece. 25mm V4C2 A more powerful weapon which is not mountable on the Vm-3 due to the energy requirements. 30 mm V5C3/C4 Existing with two configurations, the 30mm cannon is popular as field artillery. In the C3 form, the beam fired is a focused shot, packing a huge and damaging punch to the target. In the C4 form, the beams fired are scattered, fulfilling a similar, more inaccurate, role to a machinegun, and making a deadly anti-infantry weapon. 50mm V6C5 The largest beam cannon made, it is mounted on ships as a light anti-shipping weapon , or on the VM5 Blast Cannon 60mm V7C6 The smallest blast cannon, used in the same role as the V6C5 on ships, and on land, as a portable field cannon. Able to obliterate entire houses with a well placed shot! 75mm V8C7 A mildly larger cannon, with a larger blast. 90mm V9C8 This immense weapon is mounted only upon Cruisers and Destroyers as close-in artillery, as no other vehicle’s power plant can fuel it. Artillery These weapons are generally fuelled independently of their carrier vehicle. Functioning much like conventional artillery, they exist in 6 inch V10C9, 8 inch V11C10, 10 inch V12C11 and 16 Inch V14C12. The latter two exist only aboard Cruisers and Battleships, the first and second either existing also as towed guns, or ‘self-propelled’ guns on the Vm-5 battlesuit. Part Five: Peaceful Uses The Magitek inventions are not all weapons to defend our great nation! In fact, from the military developments civilian applications are becoming clear. Magitek powered manufacturing machines. Windless windmills. Better travel, with ‘Magitek carts‘ already in operation in Vector City, and Magitek trains now running between the state capitals. The dawn of Magitek promises a more peaceful and prosperous morning for the most important discovery the world has seen since fire: and may even replace fire! The heat given from a fire and the light may seem impossible to replace with Magitek, but the fact is, an old discovery that our scientists are only beginning to understand is what is able to do this: electricity. Magitek generators can produce vast amounts of the electrical power, and this heats up metals conducting the energy. Theories include -The heating of water pumped through piping in a house by an electrical pump to warm the building. -Electrical candles, a new and working theory which sees a current ran through a small wire in a glass case of certain gases, which, when the electricity passes through the wire, causes the emission of a light more powerful, cleaner, and less dangerous than candles, torches, and oil lamps! -Heating thick coils of metal to emit heat and warm the home as a supplement to ‘wall heating‘ as described above. -Even an electrical oven and stove is possible! Magitek-produced electricity will herald a newer, safer, cleaner, warmer age! Other experimental processes that cannot be revealed may assist in military communication, and soon after, public communication. We cannot reveal too much, lest our enemies steal the great idea, but let us just say, you may soon be able to hear a speech given by our beloved Emperor in Vector, when you are in Tzen! You may even be able to speak to people upon the other side of the country! Part Six: The Future Magitek‘s future is certainly bright (and warm!), but there are potential rivals. For example, Figaro has developed it‘s own small air force using Oil-powered engines, and is said to be manufacturing transport craft using similar engines. As they are our allies, we have no reason to worry about the oil engines: in fact, they may emerge as a cheaper version of Magitek for some lesser processes thereby freeing up more Magitek for more vital uses! Oil engines can produce electricity, as can coal-powered variants, but with reduced output and increased pollution. However, disturbingly come claims that scientists in Doma and Narshe are collaborating upon the use of the metal Uranium for some nefarious purpose, with the Ministry of Military Intelligence obviously unable to confirm is this is true or not for the fact they may risk the lives of their agents. As you may know, Uranium is a very dense metal that is said to cause sickness in folk myth. Vector is experimenting with the metal, but Narshe and Doma‘s scientists have issued statements upon a theory called ‘Radioactivity‘. They say that Uranium and other substances give off energy similar to the magic given off by Magicite, and Vector‘s findings thus far seem to agree. But unlike the safe Magicite, Uranium is an evil twin to Magicite, potentially fatal to it‘s user. ‘Nuclear Chemistry‘ as Doma and Narshe have bafflingly called it is clearly a non-starter, playing upon the similarity to Magitek to try and denounce the safe Magitek with comparisons to deadly ‘Nuclear chemistry‘. But the efforts of any complete alternatives are in vain, for Magitek is safer, cleaner, easier, and, with a new experimental technique, possibly even cheaper and replenish able! So, as we enter a new century and a new millennium, look to the future, a Magitek future! © 999 AWM Vectorian Ministry of Defence. Sorry for the lateness of the reply here but I wasn't about to do so until now
![]() It's real good stuff. HOWEVER, I note a large flaw in your work. If this is written up 2 years prior to FF6, then they wouldn't know about Magicite would they? At the time they were draining espers. Magicite use didn't begin until after your break in. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. Well, MG, like I said in chat, I basically figured that rather than say 'espers' in propaganda they hand to the citizenry, who will all have heard legends of espers, they decide to say Magicite. Esper is never even mentioned in the actual propaganda, but I also had a theory on Magicite: There were two kinds. The pure stuff, made from the bodies of espers and also dug up out of the ground from old war of Magi battlefields, and the faux magicite, made by the magical energies leeching into other lifeforms, in addition to other forms of magicite that are a little less consumer friendly...
Beyond that, I figured they had Magicite for a few years preceeding the game since the infrastructure of vector that uses Magicite seems pretty well developed. Anyway, this kind of reminded me to finish the other bit... Edit Letter to General Kefka Palazzo, from Lord Hubert DeHaines, Vectorian Ambassador to Kohlinghen. My Lord Palazzo This document was recovered by troopers of the 7th Marine Battalion who had been posted to Kohlinghen as guards for the embassy. Five troopers assisted local forces in attacking a small village where forces supposedly sympathising with Zozoan insurgents had been based. Twelve suspects were killed, three arrested, and four civilians killed, in addition to one civilian supposedly put into a coma. The document itself is a worrying read. If this has been spread amongst other insurgents, then we may also assume they may be reading from a set of standardised tactics. Unfortunately, the suspects managed to incinerate some documents before the local forces could capture them, but our marines recovered this. I believe that if we can obtain copies of their “playbookâ€, as the marine lieutenant dubbed the suspected book of tactics, we can take countermeasures against the enemy using such tactics. I feel that it may be wise to make efforts to obtain some copy of any playbook that may exist, if at all possible -Hubert DeHaines Magitek: The Truth Magitek technology is held up by Vector as a force for good. They claim it will help us all. They are LYING. All that Vector intends to use Magicite for is war. And after it has conquered the world, it will then use it to enforce it’s rule and enrich it’s own people at the expense of all others. Vector claims Magitek is a clean source of energy, unlike Coal or Oil, and has no side effects. These claims are lies. It is true there are peaceful uses for it: but supplies of Magicite will someday run out. Vector claims this will not happen. The truth is, it will occur, at the projected rate of usages, within 100 years. The terrible truth is, that vector has already staged a number of horrific experiments in creating more Magicite! The following will horrify you, but it is all true. The Side Effects Vector claims that Magitek infusion is harmless to the recipient. The reality is, of the five initial test subjects, only two lived: and one was driven insane. Modern methods are said to not suffer the same errors of the early test, and have no fatalities or incidents of insanity. The truth is, 3% of infusions kill the soldier. 5% drive the soldier insane. 3% are believed to suffer other problems, including respiratory illness, cancer, and infertility. It is speculated that over 80% of Magitek soldiers who seem unaffected will develop later complications in life. The children of Magitek solders show a higher rate of disability, mental retardation, and infant mortality. Claims are even made of inhuman monsters being born to Magitek soldiers. The Faraway Lady Spies in Vector report that there are rumours of a green-haired witch in Vector. Vector’s government dismissed it as urban myth. But there have been numerous strange incidents, every one either denied by Vector or lied about, allegedly involving this ‘green-haired lady’. She is described as around twenty years of age, and allegedly stunningly beautiful - except that her hair is green. She, when witnessed by people, is usually vacant-eyed, uninterested in anything around her. This has seen her called the ‘Vacant Woman’, the ‘Faraway Lady’ and ‘The Mourning Ghost’, as it is claimed she may be an evil spirit. In 999, it is said that three soldiers were killed in a horrifying manner. They were apparently burnt alive by the faraway lady at the Vector Magitek Research Facility. The government said that there was indeed an accident at the facility, and three soldiers were killed, but the incident was a fire. More disturbingly, there are claims that 50 soldiers said to have been killed in a training accident were in fact killed in an experiment with the faraway lady. Details are scarce of what actually caused the deaths, but it is claimed that the exercise saw a ship carrying the soldiers sink. One day later, a transport ship was allegedly blown up off the coast of Port St. Martin in Doma, in order to ensure Vector could prove it’s inventory of ships was down one. Obviously, Vector’s navy patrols that area intensely, and so, no evidence can be found. Whoever she is, she is part of Vector’s efforts for world domination: this is certain. A woman like her, but with dyed blonde hair, apparently accompanied General Kefka Pallazzo’s party to Doma during the peace talks before the war. Key Doman officers disappeared during the talks. The Supplies Magicite supplies worldwide will run out in a century. Vector is already trying to find ways to replace it. It is rumoured the faraway lady is somehow connected to the source of Magicite, and she somehow has the ability to create pure magicite out of other living matter. Fuelled by the dead Another worrying claim comes from Albrook and also Figaro. In the mountains of Figaro, there is a bird-like creature known as the Cirpius. This creature has been confirmed as turning it’s prey into stone in order to kill the prey, usually via dropping a rock on it’s cranium from a high height, shattering the petrified prey’s head, before turning the decapitated creature back to normal in a hunting manner that saves energy for the bird. Attacks on humans have been rare, but are not unknown. It is claimed that Vector conducted an experiment at Mount Kolts, using POW’s from the Doman War. It is claimed they used petrified living human beings as a source of a new Magicite. It is said to be of a medium quality grade, as opposed to the highest grade, dug straight out of the ground or, according to a so-called urban legend in Vector, made from the bodies of espers, or the lowest grade, the remains of living matter exposed to magical energies, or as a side effect from some larger magicite engines. Vector has rubbished these claims. But anyone who climbs the mountain these days will find Figaroan teams, not hunting the dangerous monsters… but trying to capture them. These teams will arrest you on sight, claiming the mountain is dangerous. But it is said, they are capturing the Cirpi, and selling them to Vector. For what purpose, we do not know. When we also consider that even the propaganda issued by vector to brainwash us into accepting Magicite hints at the horrors enacted : “‘New’ Magicite, created from the crystallised bodies of other creatures affected by the magic energies after death.†Says the Vectorian propaganda piece “The Magitek Arsenalâ€. Vector has claimed that experiments have been conducted only with plants and animals, but there are claims human beings have been used in similar tests. A defecting Marine in Zozo claimed to have seen a man, his body covered in a crystalline growth, in a lab in Vector. It is believed that a large quantity, double that used in Magicite Infusion, of the highest quality is directly injected into the human body, and the victim is, from then on, effectively a culture to grow new magicite. Magitek is a scourge. To fuel it, we may murder people. To use it, we may risk our lives. If we allow it to exist, our children may grow up in an oppressive world, devoid of freedom, working for a far-off land, and possibly even being killed to fuel that land’s machinery and vehicles. The only course with such a regime, is to fight. To fight may be dangerous, but there are ways. Fighting Magitek Armour Magitek armour is tough. The easiest way to knock out the common Vm-3 light M-tek is to kill the pilot. But against the heavier, armoured suits, it is nigh on impossible for an infantryman or cavalryman to fight. A grenade or exploding lance might do the trick, but it is a risky move, and ineffective against the heavier armour. BUT there are new weapons that have been developed the infantryman can use, not to mention the fact that artillery guns can destroy most M-tek suits. However, what makes these weapons more amazing is, an infantryman can carry and use them! Figaroan Portable Mortar This weapon is rare as its actual form outside Figaro, but copies have been made. The Portable Mortar is like a minature breech-loading artillery gun: a 50mm grenade shell is inserted into the barrel, and in the case of some variants, a smaller, 30mm round is inserted into two barrels. With longer range and somewhat more of a punch than a thrown grenade, the portable mortar is well able to eliminate the Vm-3, and may even be able to destroy the Vm-4 at the side and rear. The weapon was originally developed by Figaro for infantry support and as a suppressive weapon. Narshean Firework Launcher Whilst these old weapons did the role that Figaro‘s grenade now fills, they packed more of a punch in their rockets. They are cheap and easy to make, and can destroy most M-tek if you can get a hit on the rear armour. Most of the M-Tek lost in the first few months of the Doman war was to ambush, until General Garamonde demanded that the weapons not be used so dishonourably. The problem is, they cannot tackle the front armour of the vast majority of M-Tek types, and General Garamonde‘s advice is the key reason Vector‘s forces are now holding Loma, and besieging the last defenders of Doma Castle. The Jidoor Infantryman‘s Artillery- 40mm This remarkable device is far superior to the firework launcher, but a little more expensive. It is essentially a rifled tube that is held over one‘s shoulder, and a 40mm shell-like rocket is loaded into the breech, about halfway down the tube. When the breech is closed, the rocket is primed to fire, and pulling the trigger fires the self-propelled shell with greater range and accuracy than the firework launcher. Developed by Jidoor to combat Vector in Zozo, it proved to be of little worth against the Vm2b battle suit, but was found to be quite effective against the other suits. The weapon is used by Kohlinghen and Narshe, but Jidoor‘s ace in the hole lies in the fact they have a new weapon. 80mm Infantry Artillery This is the son of the 40mm rocket, and a little more complex to use: but it is capable of eliminating even the Vm2c heavy M-tek in the frontal armour! This weapon has a longer and obviously wider tube, and requires two soldiers to operate. The rocket is placed in the back of the rifled tube, and fired by the loader. The second soldier carries the long tube, and aims the weapon itself. Three-men crews can be used for speed: Loader, firer, gunner. This portable artillery gun will revolutionise combat, but Vector is loathe to even consider a direct assault upon Jidoor due to it. However, the great news is that Narshe has been given a supply of these weapons! Vector plans to invade Narshe to secure the coal, iron, and steel that Narshe produces, but shall instead return to Vector with a bloodied nose. I'm now thinking of another document, a letter between research scientists, revealing some of the nastier experiments the Vectorians performed. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

Well it's okay but it has many inconsistances, such as if you look at the game there are places where people are surprised the Empire is going after Narshe or Doma so it clearly cannot have been in conflict with them for long and I don't think Cyan was actual a general, he was his king's chief retainer but he was more like a Samurai or champion than a tactical operative.
And if you look at the game there is very little evidence of grenades or explosives being used outside of Vector's military. And lastly I'm pretty sure there are no horses in the Final Fantasy worlds or at least not in FFVI, that's what chocobo's are for. I knew about those "inconsistnces" when writing, and they're mostly deliberate for purposes of realism and creativity. The first part you mentioned, the Narshe guards, I figured they were actually shocked that their main defences had been possibly surpassed, and they feared the village was under attack by the bulk of the Vectorian invasion . The way I picture it, FF6's world map misses out most of the detail that really should be there, which is a great excuse for me to get a little more original rather than assume Narshe is a tiny mining village. I saw the Vectorian invason of Narshe as being swift, reaching the mountians very soon, and sending a small group of troops past the enemy fortifications towards the village. And as coincindence has it, a large Narshean counter-attack armed with the 80mmIA drives out Vector a short while after the mission to the mining village fails.
Sabin's surprise might have been for a number of reasons. That the Vectorian military had managed to smash aside Doma's forces relativley quickly when most of the tactics and history he had learned saw wars of many years before victory, and here is Vector, less than a year after the landings, beseiging the main castle of the nation. Ergo, the mere fact they haven't been in conflict relativley long is a shock to both Sabin and the Guards. Sabin's also faily isolated, so may not have even heard Doma was under attack. I figured that Cyan had, throughout his career, led from the front when he was younger, and so, in the last stand of Doma, is trying to atone for his tactical errors that cost the lives of men like those he know stands against the wall with by fighting with them, despite the fact he should be getting too old for all that... The issue of explosives and grenades is for realism: I figured "How else could any force armed with rifles and artillery stand up to an armoured assault supported by it's own artillery for very long, much less be capable of invading Vector without too much reliance on luck. A genius with tactics can still be slaughtered by an idiot with superior technology and trainng: And Vector has a shortage of idiots. Surplus of lunatics, shortage of idiots. A bit like Parliament. I figure there are horses, but we never see them as they're either a Doman thing, a status symbol in some other places(Commoners use Chocobos!), or used for roles in Industrialized nations Chocobo's cannot fill becuase they're weaker than horses like Clydesdale's, and in Vector, of course, Magitek has allowed the birth of the Tractor. Basically, Choco's might be faster, but horses allow you to carry a little more in a Cavalry context. So really, changes made are for what I perceive as compatability issues. Like I said, magitek needed expansion beyond the light open-topped walker -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |
