I've recently had my account transferred over to Montreal. I used to live in Laval and I never got it transferred. Never had cause to do it, but I figured it'd be best if I moved it to the bank ~4-5 streets from where I'll be living. Seeing as, like my sig says, I'm moving out and all that. Scheduled a meeting, discussed stuff, got the account moved.
"I'll also be needing a new checkbook. My landlord wants 11 post-dated checks. How long will it take?" "Oh, the orders generally don't take too long. You should have them sometime this week." "Oh, allright, that's perfect." Monday. Unfortunately I couldn't get them printed up front (I asked) but I figured a few days would be fine. My landlord didn't seem to mind the wait. Friday comes. No checks. Well, that sucks. I figure I'll wait until monday and drop down to their offices and see what's the holdup. Monday. Still nothing. Well, time to go see what's up. "Account number?" "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX" "Well, there's nothing we can do, it's in the mail so it should arrive anyday." "You can't print them up front?" "Nope, sorry." Fine, fine. I'll probably head home and find them in my mail later that day or something. Nope, I don't. Hrm hrm. Friday. Rune is pissed. No checkbook yet, it's been two weeks. Bank, I'm comin'... and hell's comin' with me. "Ok, look, I've been waiting for this thing for two weeks now, and I was told it would only take a few days. I need this checkbook. Now. It's become an urgent matter." "Account number?" "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX" "Address?" "XYZ" "Birthdate?" "...July 17th, 1984." "It's in the mail. You should be-" "No. You're not feeding me that bullshit again. I should have gotten it last week, and there's still no signs of that checkbook. Either tell me where I can go pick it up directly or put me in contact with someone who can help me if you can't." "One moment, I'll phone the company..." At this point, really, I'm through being nice. Not that I'm ever a nice guy anyways. :) But these checks should've been in my landlord's possession a while ago. It HAS become a pressing issue. "The order never went through." ...What? What the hell?! "Excuse me?" "The order was never issued. Do you want me to place one now?" ...I have a 5-digit sum of money at your bank and you can't even handle this? "No. I NEED these checks NOW. What I DON'T need is some incompetant people who can't even order a checkbook right, and go on telling me it's in the mail when it clearly ISN'T. Tell me right now who I can contact to rectify this, because I'm not leaving here until I either have my checks, or the address of the place I can go pick them up. Delegate as you want, but I'm not putting up with another two weeks of this crap." "Well, I can print you out the checks you need." Wow. When I left (with the eleven checks in my wallet, at long last!), I was practically fuming. Two weeks of rather precious time wasted over an order that was not only never sent by them, nor never checked even when I asked them to, but could've been printed out ages ago. Great start guys. Really. I almost lost the lease over not being able to provide these checks you handled so professionally. Anyone else run into fun problems like these at the bank? :) -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote (Silverlance @ 26th August 2005 13:04) "Well, I can print you out the checks you need." The moment I read that, I was immediately like "Oh my f###ing god! ![]() I would like to think other banks aren't this incompetant. After all, given the importance of money in this world, they could practically be holding your life in their hands, so they can't (or shouldn't be able to) afford to screw up like that. That said, I think you'll be pretty hardpressed to find anyone here who can relate with ye. In fact, that's scary stuff! If I was ye, I'd be taking me money elsewhere. I gotta hand it to your ranting prowess, though. Kinda reminds me of Dave Barry...jest without all the anger and all the bad language. -------------------- |

My roomate had a snafu with his bank. They were late cashing a paycheck and his rent check bounced. Now I hafta sign the checks. This is actually kinda tense since I don't get paid till the end of each month. So I make sure to let the girl I give the rent to know not to cash it for a while. My banks been pretty good, but I'm still nervous...now more than ever. Thanks a lot SL.

I avoid paying anything with checks or my card, so I usually don't run into any problems.
My dad told me about this time the bank bounced a check he wrote out to his brother because of insufficient funds. Even though he deposited his paycheck and transferred some extra over from his savings more than 24 hours before he wrote the check. He went down there, got BSed by the teller, then the manager got called over to smooth things over and BS him some more. My dad's the kind of man that won't put up with being BSed, so he closed all of his accounts right then and there. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

That's exactlly why I only do business with a credit union. My fiance had an account with Hibernia once and $600 came up missing from her account. When she went to the bank to find out why they brought up the account history and claimed she drew it all out in one trasaction at an ATM. Funny thing is she had a $500 limit per24 hour period. The bank is ALWAYS right no matter what you say and they never want to work anything out. That's why I do business with a credit union instead. I haven't had any problems with the one I'm at.

Actually, I had exactly the same type of experience (Certainly not as urgent, but still annoying). I placed an order for some checks......long story short, they were never ordered (twice)...........switched banks after that
