This poll was inspired by the "Favorite Final Boss Music" thread. So, which Final Fantasy has your favorite battle music? For me, FFVIII has the best battle music.

I dunno, something about FFIV has always appealed to me. Perhaps 'cause it was my first RPG. But the FFIV battle music is my favorite of them all, with FFVI close behind.

I voted 6, because that's THE music I think of when I think of battle. But I really like 7's too.

FF7 was some great battle music!!
I had played 1-6.. but never "got into" the battle music as much as FF7.
FF8 - 10 were OK, but 7 was a masterpiece!

I've always liked the battle theme from the SNES version of FFV. The PSX version sounds like crap, though.

Tied between VII and VIII. I voted for VIII, though.

I choose Tactics, because I'd rather hear a bunch of different themes to fit the situations than one for regular skirmishes and one for bosses. "Antidote" still ranks as my favorite theme, and I've probably enjoyed FFT's orchestrations more than the in-series tunes.

I have to go with Shotgunnova here. After all, I've always prefered authentic instruments in any music to synthesized sounds. FFT is probably my favorite FF soundtrack, too, and I'm not sure why, but the theme that plays in the battle against Algus is my personal fave tune.

Close 2nd place (tie) FF6 and Chrono Trigger: FF6 cuz the battle themes here are awesome, as well, even though the sound quality is rather dated now; CT cuz of the grandiose qualities of the 2nd boss theme (Masa/Mune combo, Azala/Black Tyrano) and Magus's theme. Even the normal boss theme has a suitable level of energy about it.

distant 3rd: FF7 solely cuz of the One Winged Angel theme (gotta dig the chorus ).

Console RPG Cliches

FFVII was my favorite overral, and other than Tactics (PSX), its my all-time-favorite battle music in the FF Series, IMO.

My favorite was FFIV, but I couldn't tell you why.

FFT, because I have never heard any music as good as in FFT.

And like Shutgunnova says, it fits with the theme, which doesn't happen so frequently in square's other games.

But by far my favorite sountrack is "Unavoidable Battle". I wish they used it more than just twice in the game...

I vote IX for the basic 'random battle' theme. I've excluded boss music as I have faves right accross the bat there.

Otherworld (FFX -Jecht)
Ultros' Theme (FFVI -Ultros)
Maybe I'm a Lion (FFVIII -Griever)
Marionette (FFIV -Cal Brina dolls)
Second Boss theme in FFII (first heard when you fight Lamia Queen)
Main boss theme in FFI (played when fighting the Fiends of Chaos)
