I picked FFVI, but I'd like to see movie versions of FFIV, FFVI, and FFVII.

(By the way, I think this is in the wrong forum--it should be in "General Squenix Gaming.)

Yeah, I think most people would vote FFVI, as this is in the FFVI forum.

However, I don't want Square touching FFVI. Leave it as is, boys. Your track record with direct sequels/prequels/tie-ins hasn't been too hot of late, and I don't want a rethought FFVI movie in theaters with everyone wearing cargo pants and combat boots, as Mr. Nomura would no doubt take pleasure in perpetrating.

I pick 7.

What the heck, VI! Course, how many threads have there already been 'bout this very topic?

Odds are though, if there ever was a FFVI-based movie, it wouldn't be a theatrical version of the game as we know it. It'd likely be something similar to the four-part FFV anime sequel Legend of the Crystals or VII's Advent Children. If Square actually does get around to releasing another FFVI game like they recently hinted, that could provide a clue to just how good or bad a continuation movie plot would be.

But still, if I had the choice, I'd be content with them just leaving it as it is for fear of them destroying its plot/characters/everything/whatever.

And yeah, seeing as this is a general poll regarding ALL the games, it should be in the Squenix forum. Y'know, for future reference...

Game Informer magazine mentioned it a few months back (someone quoted the entire article on another site, but I didn't save it nor even remember what it stated exactly). It's been a bit of a hot topic on some FFVI boards, and spawned a topic here: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...?showtopic=6601

Edit
Correction - it spawned one and a half topics. tongue.gif

I want to see a Final Fantasy VI movie, in anime style or a good live action movie based off of a game. Ever gamer knows that movies based off a game don't have a good history.

The plots of FFIV and FFVI are too complex to be condensed well into a movie. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done, just that everyone would bitch and moan about the end result. By contrast, for about two-thirds of the game, the plot of FFVII is run-around-and-chase-Sephiroth. It wouldn't be hard to clean a lot of that up, and you could even change the game so that most of it was set in Midgar without really hurting the story. So, I vote for FFVII.

I voted other (ff7). It follows a fairly straightforward path, with a solid storyline and enough plot twists to keep people from getting bored. Plus, all the end bosses of the other FF games are your typical "hello, I'm evil and I'm going to destroy the world MUAHAHAHA" villain, whereas sephiroth had a reason to go... unzipped.

It was talked about in June's issue, not April's. If that was the case then they'd be two months late with their "joke", so I highly doubt it. The info never specified a sequel either, just treatment similar to what they've already done with a few FF's, which is about as clear as mud.

HAR HAR HAR! I have to pick none. Seriously, people, jest look at the treatment that other games got when they were converted into movies. Mortal Kombat? Super Mario Bros.? Street Fighter?? Anyone remember those? Ugh...I don't want no Hollywood touching no FF game, uh-uh. And lets face it, it would take a Hollywood calibur bunch to finance and produce something so laden with fictional material (magic, monsters, etc.) Furthermore, Hollywood would have to make changes to the title (ones that would most likely be unpopular to us FF fans, I'm sure) to make it as appealing to the general public as possible.

Then again, this may only apply to a live-action picture. I'm not sure how much money and work is required to make an animated feature, but my guess is, for games as long and involved as the more popular FF titles like FF6 and 7, it would still be a substantial amount.

And one image that keeps entering me mind is a scene where a dashing figure playing Edgar is confronted by a nasty behemoth and he draws his mighty...drill? huh.gif

Don't you wish that Steven Speilberg would play FF6, fall in love with it like we did, and then make a movie out of it?? He would do a three part series, like Lord of the Rings.
It would be an awsome movie. God, I can only dream this will come true.

Or maybe one of us is an aspiring director and will hit it big one day in the future. Of course, you will bring FF6 to life in the theatres.

Hey now. I actually really enjoyed the Mario Bros movie. Go Bob-omb, go!

However, I don't think any Final Fantasy would really make a good movie. The closest would be FFI, of course.......haha, ok so maybe not. I'd say FFVII and FFT have the best chances of being one (they have somewhat of a decent storyline, and some interesting battles, like Sapphire/Diamond Weapon, Sephiroth, anybody from Tactics). Still, I think that they are best left as games. What mostly draws people to a game is the exceptional game play and battles and such, not the storyline. I haven't even read half the storylines for most of the games out there, I just wanna get to the action. Game play can't be shown in a movie, and too many battles would make it tiresome (thinik Gladiator...that was perfectly balanced).

I agree with L. Cully. Platformers and fighting games? Yeah, I guess story isn't that important. But RPGs? Yeaaaaah, people are definitely playing them for the stories. And if they aren't? Well, I think there are games more suitable to play, as opposed to wasting thirty-plus hours on games that are dependent on a storyline.

But a lot of RPGs have important battle scenes that are pertinent to the plot, so those probably wouldn't translate well to the silver screen.

Uhm.

I personally picked Final Fantasy VIII.

I know it's a weird one to pick.

But the settings are so outrageous and the characters are all so very unique.

The story would be beautiful to see unfold.

I think FF9 because I thought it was kinda cinematic and the plot could easily be condensed into maybe, 2 to 2 and a half hours of movie? Plus, the cute storyline would appeal to a lot of people. smile.gif

I think FF6 would be good too, but it would be great if it was 100% CG like The Spirits Within. Except FF6 has an actual storyline, heh.

To answer which Final Fantasy I would most like to see in movie form, we need to take a few things into consideration if it were to be a full-blown hollywood type movie:

-The average plot is too complex for a three hour movie
-The average Hollywood actor is too cardboard to play some of the deeper characters. You know where this is going, don't you?
-The average Final Fantasy has too many things demanding expensive sets or CG, unless it's shot in a manner like Sin City was.

Thus, we need an FF with a plot that was basic and illogical, that no one who counts really likes, and really needs to be wrecked by the presence of a peice of balsa wood like Hayden Christensen (Infamous for his emo acting as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars AotC and RotS).

Thus, the perfect FF for hollywood treatment, is FF8. That woman who played the stupid chick can play Rinoa. In fact, it'd be like Star Wars, with no stars but a short war. Which Galbadia still technically won.

Formats that don't mean its FF8 or we ruin a game are as a TV series. We can safely rule out me ever wanting an Anime becuase I don't like Anime much, so that means a 24-part series to cover a decent FF. In that case, it's Six. If it's an anime of any sort, I didn't want it. If it's a hollywood movie that's not FF8, I didn't want it.

Not a strange idea at all. It's a great idea and you'd wish it'll happen cause that's probably the only way we'd get to see a real final fantasy in the movies.

I guess people here aren't used to my use of hyperbole when stating a point. Therefore, I will restate it to a lesser degree: you will never ever see me play a game with an incredible storyline, but with a bad battle organization and overall terrible game play (can't think of an example); however, it is not uncommon for me to play games that have virtually no storyline, but are very enjoyable to play (think PSO ep I and II...I had no clue what was going on the first playthrough, i just knew where I had to go and that it was a fun game). In conclusion, I think that game play is, for me, what makes a game. A book can have a good storyline, as can a movie, but game play draws me to certain games. That, in my opinion, is why there are very few games out there suitable to be made into a movie.

I voted for FFIV not only because it's my favourite FF, but also because it might be do-able. FFVI is a really good FF, there's no real clear 'lead'. You spend part of the time following Terra's development and the other with Celes. FFIV is centered around one character (yay for Cecil!). But, knowing Hollywood, they'd screw it up. So, why don't we make a FFVIII movie? shifty.gif
