I think I need to do something more productive with my spare time. Show of hands?
![]() That recent Shadow-related topic in the VI forum gave me the urge to draw the man in black and his widdle (big) puppy. I had another sketch goin' at the time and just modified it from that. I thought it looked much too serious without some cartoony element, so Interceptor's mind is set on some kibbles...or that schnauzer from down the street. Either, or. Ta-dah! Call me nuts, but I think it would have benefitted from a more serious tone. But Interceptor's silly grin fits your style more.
Both characters are well done. Shadow seems dark and brooding, very nice. Looks like you went with Amano style, again nice. The only thing I see that looks off is that Shadow's right hand should be in front of the cloth on his belt instead of behind. And I think your spare time is being wasted nicely. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Quote (L. Cully) Schnauzers rule, and so does this. Schnauzers do rule. Yes. Yes, they do. And first off, Rujuken, you're nuts. Nutty, nutty, nutty. To think what my dear, deceased imaginary friend Nuffles the popsicle stick would have to say 'bout that. Well, probably not much 'cause wood doesn't talk, but he had his share of splinters to pass around, if you know what I mean. ![]() Quote (Rujuken) The only thing I see that looks off is that Shadow's right hand should be in front of the cloth on his belt instead of behind. I toyed with that same thought, but in the end decided that this way the cloth can be seen blowing more freely its way instead of having something restrict it. Also, I'd probably end up moving his right arm too far forward and towards the viewer if I went the other way (unlike his present stance, where his right shoulder (and side) is supposeded to be bent slightly to [his] right - a different perspective would illustrate it better). In other words, he's just being one of those "cool" and "broody" guys who can stand there like rigamortis has set in or 'cause they can't pop a few joints... Edit Eh...wish I'd been a little more, well, sober when I posted. I think I got across what I meant about the perspective well enough. And in reality I never even met Nuffles prior to last night. The dead trickster now has a restraining order against him... Sorry for the double-post, but I felt it was necessary.
Now that all the vodka's clear outta my system, [this no longer present link was] the same pic as above with some revisions made - namely Interceptor without the grin - that I meant to post yesterday. The point of this post is, while my submission is still the original in my first post, I'd like a second (or third, or fouth, etc.) opinion on which of the two looks the best, which may dictate whether or not I swap the submission. If no one answers, I guess I'll just keep it the way it is. If this question is outta bounds for this forum, I apologize. Hopefully a mod will kindly let me know. ![]() Edit Guess silliness is more my thang. I just honestly couldn't decide, but I'll remove the second link now. And to reply to Sherick below: Quote (Sherick) The first one could have been made better (by Interceptor anyway) if you at least opened his eyes, making him look like he's a bit more...sedistic >:) I actually tried that in ink, before coloring it. Thing is...eh...he ended up lookin' like a cross between Kujo and IT. He literally looked like he'd eat my soul. ![]() This post has been edited by SilverFork on 7th August 2005 00:50 -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. It depends on the mood you're trying to set.
The first one has more of a "chibi" feel to it, what with the silly grin on Interceptor's face and the proportions. The second one, despite keeping the chibi feel, is more serious and has a "rawr, I'm a ninja and this is my dog. Hear us roar." feel. Plus, Interceptor's eye is freaking me out. ![]() So, I guess it's a matter of what you're trying to express. Sillyness or seriousness. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Really like it. The cartoonish quality blended with the Amano style is friggin' milk! *adopts pretentious art voice* er...hmm the right hand behind the sash gives shadow a sense...of...er....confrontation with the elements...the wind especially symbolizing er...*sips merlot*...confrontation...yes. *drops pretentious art voice* Very nice and I am going to back track and check out more of your work.

The second was good too, but the pupilless eyes made him look either undead or Rayden-esque godly. -------------------- I fear my heart and fear my soul Life goes on, it surely will, Without me and I wonder: Will I ever see light again? Life goes on... |

Quote (Nekki) My only crit would be that Shadow's legs look too small/short compared to the rest of him. That was intentional, just so y'know. It's another one of those quirky cartoon styles I've, uh, borrowed. Plus his head's small and normal for a change, so something had to be outta proportion. ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will.
