Monster Skill is bugged in its description: it only works on a one panel effect zone, which means that you must be standing next to the monster in order for it to benefit from the added ability.

Monster Skill lends ally monsters (and charmed enemies, too, if I remember) an extra ability for as long as the human is standing adjacent. All monsters have different abilities, and some even get mind-blowing skills (Ulmagest, Giga Flare) if you take the time to recruit 'em.

Mr. Thou is right about the description, though. Don't waste your time standing from three grid squares away and trying to make it work, 'cause it won't. Since you have to be cheek-to-cheek with the monster, that acts as a deterrent for a lot of players, but the skills you get can compensate for the trouble it causes.

Maybe asking every small question isn't worth it...

it's just a small test that you can do yourself... 200JP and getting monster skill is that hard?

sorry to be rough but maybe the FFT section covers this yet I'm not sure since it,s not my priority to visit that section.

As soon as your monster won't be next to one of your party members with monster skill equipped, the effect's gone. You can't let,s say have a new turn, move away from the cahracter and use Dark Wisper with your Tiamat

that is pretty rough zodiac, cause i've had this game since like '99 and i have never used monster skill. i didn't even know/care what it did. i looked into it cause of this topic and found out that red chocobos get choco cure with monster skill on. that just made them like twice as good in my book tongue.gif

This would have been nice to know when Reis was still a dragon.
Does anyone know what her ability is when Beowulf has Monster Skill set?

Demi-Humans do NOT get any special abilities since they use a "job". You can notice a monster will always have counter inherent as a reaction ability and all they techniques are marqued with stars in their status screen. Since the Holy Dragon job isn't a monster's but a demi human's, you can't gain a new skill temporarly that way.

What about Worker 8? Does it classify as a monster?

Nope, Worker-8 is classified as a humanoid monster or, as Zodiac referred to them as, a demi-human. Besides, Worker-8, Holy Dragon Reis, and the Byblos are special unique characters, so it doesn't really fit that they'd have extra skills outside of their own skillset.

...although it would be awesome to see Worker-8 mess up the landscape with some uber-attack, I'll admit that much.

It's a terrible shame that you have to be right next to your monsters to get the extra abilities. It would be awesome to just be able to have monster skill equipped..........I might even consider actually using monsters.

Thats good,Kane. Some monsters are useful. and like Shotgunnova said, if you take the time to recruit some monsters, the aftermath of using monster skill can be quite beneficial. Has anyone ever tried to invite an Ultima Demon into their party?

Ultima Demons (as well as Archaic Demons and Apandas) cannot be invited, sadly.

That's not really a problem since we can use their main skills (Except for Bio/Bio 2/Bio3) with behemoths along with monster skill.
Behemoth : Giga Flare (can't remember the formula, but nice damage)
King Behemoth: Hurricane (35% of max HP damage)
Dark Behemoth: Ulmaguest (Max HP - Current HP ; Like shock but HUGE area, no MP cost, no charge time, in other words, deadly)

Nope, you have to rub shoulders (i.e. one space away) constantly or the skill will disappear.

Man, that just sucks... Thats really the only reason why i don't use Monster skills. Sometimes i wonder why its even in the game if you need to stand next to the monster during the entire battle.

It's an error, you're supposed to be able to stand 3? spaces away from them which wouldn't be to bad.

Supposed to, but doesn't.

Personally, I'm a favorite of a certain Monster Skill on Tiamats....Dark Whisper. As I recall (Missing a TV makes me unable to play FFT, cry) it's a 6-hit random AoE (See Rafa/Malak), except, a vertical tolerance of 0. That makes it quite easy to focus the attack on a single target or two, which means instant death~

Then again FFT is so instant-death heavy, it's more of a fun 'see the cool attack' then anything else, unless fly will be -that- useful. (Then you'll put your Monster Skillerr on a Red Chocobo first!)
