Here's my stupid survey!

I wanna know how much of you guys are naming Nanaki with his name, or do you call him by what is written on his tattoo?

Nanaki is Nanaki, even the guy at the entry of Cosmo Canyon says so!

Since my second game I called him Nanaki because I find it extremely stupid to call him Red XIII.

It all depends on whether or not I'm playing with all original names. It's always entertaining to hear the Cosmo Canyon guy explain that "Nanaki is Nanaki", but I usually call him Red XIII (not verbally, but in my head) whether or not his in-game name is Nanaki.

Since I didn't like the idea of a name with a number in the frist place, the first time I played the game I named him Reed (close enough from the original, I thought back then). Later when I found out he was named Nanaki, I thought have I known I might have named him that way.

Turned out I always name him Reed now

Since the first time I played the game, it was never Red 13... I saw the X in XIII and my mind just called him Red X. It's been that way since.

Red XIII just stuck with me. So that's what I call him.

A friend of mine calls him "Red Ecks Aiyaiyai," though.

I have a tendency lately to use Nanaki more often than Red XIII.

The first time I played FFVII I was in the fifth grade. Although I understood the Roman numeral system well enough back then, I'd still always call him "Red Seven", maybe just because it sounded cooler. The name's stuck, and I haven't been able to break the habit.

In every FF7 game I've ever played, I named my characters "Soup." Each and every one of them. Red XIII included.

Why?

Some questions are best left unanswered. And I'm dead serious about this, no matter how stupid it sounds. It's kind of a personal bet.

In just about every game, I name characters after my friends and
Red XIII/Nanaki is no exception. I always name him after my friend Charlie who really likes Red XIII/Nanaki.

However, if I were to pick a name out of the two that I would've used, it'd be Nanaki.

I always name him Red VIII. That's what I named him the first time I played and now I do it every time I play 7.

My brother named my cat Niniak, but I have mistaken myself many times by calling him Nanaki sometimes.

My brother haven't played FFVII in his entire life and still that name so close to Nanaki's came to his mind. MUST BE A COINCIDENCE!

On my first play I kept Red XIII, but on my second playthrough, I named him Joe Blo. I thought it fit him well

I give all (ok, most) of my FF characters original names or names that I think fit well that aren't FF or game-related. Red XIII/Nanaki is no exception. When I use FF names, I make him Red XIII because Roman numerals in names are cool. On my current playthrough, though, his name is Badstreet!

I like Nanaki better, but I name him Red XIII. There was a reason why he hid his real name, I'm positive of it (this is probably one example of screen-hogs taking away from the side-stories). Besides, the dialogue in Cosmo Canyon gets messed up if you name him Nanaki.

When does it mess up? I don't remember anything going wierd if you name it Nanaki. As it for for the guy at the entrance, He will say: «Nanaki is Nanaki, that's his name», no matter how you call him... How could he know how you are calling him anyway?

So wich dialogue? I'll look further to it.

same here i played through calling him nanaki once, exactly the way they spell it hoping that something would happen... it didn't.

I always dropped the XIII and just named him Red. Except that one time I decided to change everyone's name, then I called him Leo (in honor of VGCats).

The first time i played i think i left it red xiii. but later i named characters after my friends but i didnt want to name a dog like creature after a friend so i just named him bow(my dogs name). in my latest game i called him nanaki

I don't like Nanaki, it bothers my ears...so I go with Red XIII. But like Sabin, I don't really bother to establish XIII as a number, so in my mind he is always 'Red X'.

Whenever I play through the game, I usually forget Red XIII's real name, ie. Nanaki, so I just name him Red XIII. It fits with that tatoo on his arm.

They are both a little off topic as well as something that would probably earn me a stiff warning, if not a ban. Let's leave it at that.

I dunno about using his whole name, I think saying "thirteen" over and over woudl get kinda redundant. Kind of how people who interact often use first names or nicknames, rather than stating the whole name over and over.

hmm the first time i palyed through it i called him Fido (don't ask why...he is a dog tho...kind of)

then the one i'm playing at the moment i called him Deathfang...better than Nanaki

Hmm for some reason this reminds me of my younger brother playing ff8 and calling squall seifer...strange boy

I think what DP is refering to is the strangeness of how multiple people try to explain to you that "Nanaki is Nanaki". That is what you've been calling him and it's the exact same name anyway so it feels kinda dense on sometimes. There's the obvious guy at the gate but also a couple of merchants and Bugenhagen try to do so too in slightly differnt words I think.

Anyway, it's normally Red XIII because I'm lazy and don't like Nanaki. The next time I play I might just shorten it to Red though. Or how about Blue? Hmm, that kinda reminds me of something, even though I can't quite put my fingure on it.

Man, take it from me, actually changing his name to Nanki is dumb, it just brings up stupid text boxes like "What? Nanaki's name is Nanaki??" and, although not the disaster that naming everyone in ff6 KEFKA is, it's really not worth your time.
