Who are your favorite fighting game characters? For me, it's a tie between Ling Xiaoyu(Tekken series) and Seung Mina(Soulblade). They both look so cute, but when they get into the arena... look out.

3. Spinal (Killer Instinct)--- He's a really freaky character, plus I like his teleport.
2. Guile (Streets of Rage 2)--- Sonic Boom!!! 1. Mitsurugi (Soul Calibur 2)--- I've heard tell that Mitsurugi is one of the best characters in the entire game, and I wholeheartedly agree. Plus his one costume with the flaring out is the greatest. -------------------- "It is a part of human nature to be evil, and it is a part of human nature to destroy evil, therefore, when evil is destroyed, so will be the human race..." - Atma |

Quote (Atma @ 20th October 2004 16:15) 2. Guile (Streets of Rage 2)--- Sonic Boom!!! I think you mean Street Fighter 2, and you're right, Guile is cool. I like: - Ryu - Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Mitsurugi - Soul Calibur 2 - Nightmare - Soul Calibur 2 If I had to chose, then Ryu would come out on top. |

I always liked Dhalsim (Street Fighter 2). There's just something about those stretchy limbs, even if he isn't the best fighter. I also like Chun Li because of her sometimes cheap lightning kick and Vega simply 'cause I never lose with him.
Two more are Mortal Kombat series' Kung Lao and Scorpion. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Really, really, really tough decision. I love fighting games, and I think that interesting character designs are one of the most important aspects of the genre. Honorable mentions go to Gen, Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon, Seung Mina, Jin Kazama, Hwoarang, Guy, Ibuki, Fei Long, Joe Higashi, and Yoshimitsu.
10. May Lee (King of Fighters) - I really have no idea why I like May Lee's design so much, especially considering she was a product of the Eolith years. Nevertheless, I really love the innovation and sheer weirdness that she exhibits, from the goggles to the gloves to the superhero delusions. 9. Jhun Hoon (King of Fighters) - Kim's rival and fellow purveyor of justice, Jhun has some sweet moves in that odd personal style of his. His hilarious idol-chasing antics and long, flowing white hair are more than enough to make him one of my favorites. The fact that his in-game stances rock helps, too. 8. Terry Bogard (Fatal Fury, King of Fighters) - Terry's hilarious Engrish outbursts are more than enough to warrant his place on my list of favorites. Needless to say, he's one of SNK's most crucial designs, and a good one at that. In terms of gameplay, his generally powerful offense has made him a favorite of beginners and experts alike. 7. Vanessa (King of Fighters) - A subtly excellent design from SNK, Vanessa has an interesting fighting style and an awesome outfit. I don't have much experience playing as her, though she does have the distinction of being one of KoF 2000's best Strikers. 6. Strider Hiryu (Marvel vs Capcom) - Though not strictly a fighting game character, I've always liked Strider. My favorite ninja from any of the games (with Guy coming in at a close second), Strider has a sweet sense of style. His horribly abusable Ouroboros tricks in MvC are the stuff of legends, though his MvC2 version is somewhat tamer (and honestly, who uses anything but Storm/Sent/Magz these days?) 5. Hwang Sungkyung (Soul Calibur) - My favorite from Soul Calibur, Hwang is a cool, straightforward character with an interesting fighting style. Most rankings I've seen place him straight in the middle when it comes to tiers, but you have to admit that he has some wicked juggles and surprising speed. It's a shame that he was replaced by Yunsung in SC2, but hopefully he'll appear in later incarnations. 4. Chun Li (Street Fighter, etc.) - Probably the first recognizable female face in fighting games, Chun Li is an excellent design in every way. So many archetypes have come from her - token female character, Chinese kung-fu girl - that the sheer impact of her presence on the landscape of fighting games is difficult to ignore. Gameplay-wise, she's hilariously overpowered in some of her incarnations, with the SF3:TS Kikkouken madness being my favorite. 3. Ryu (Street Fighter, etc.) - The first character I picked from the first fighting game I ever truly loved, Ryu is pretty much the template for every one of the million standard karate knock-off protagonists that pollute the market today. He stands as the original and the best, with a subtle sense of style that keeps him leagues beyond the pretenders. When it comes to actually playing Ryu, his strictly old-school strategy leaves him in the middle tier of most recent games, but he can still pack a mean punch in the hands of an experienced player. 2. Yun and Yang (Street Fighter) - The coolest kung-fu fighters to ever come from Capcom, Yun and Yang's fighting styles are brilliantly designed and animated. Everything about their outfits, personalities, and mannerisms is superb, and I consider the duo the best designs to come out of the company. Yun's reputation as the god-tier, rushdown, high-priority, Genei-Jin master needs no introduction, but I'd like to note that Yang has a pretty good mid-range game and some decent ticking that puts him in the upper half of most tiers. 1. Kim Kaphwan (Fatal Fury, King of Fighters) - My all-time favorite fighting game character from the good people at SNK, Kim is the man, period. His personal brand of Korean Justice is simultaneously cool and hilarious, and his taekwondo stylings are supreme. Whether showing off his well-brushed teeth or beating the crap out of Chang and Choi, Kim always manages to be awesome, and his quirky personality makes him unforgettable. In terms of pure gameplay, Kim's effectiveness has varied throughout the various editions of KoF, but needless to say he's always the character I pick first. Reptile from mortal kombat. He was so awesome it was disgusting. He was always cool then in MK Deadly Alliance they made him several hundred times better, and i seldom lost with him and his crab style fighting.
![]() I also thoroughly enjoy Yoshimitsu. I loved his seppuku, and impaling attacks. Whenever someone was nearby- BAM! At least one person got impaled. First off, I just have to say that apart from RPGs, my favorite games are fighters.
Ken and Ryu (Street Fighter)--I was going to list them separately, but it's Ken and Ryu. Dragon Punches and Hurricane Kicks! !Que Bonito! Mai Shiranui (Fatal Fury, KoF)--Not just because she's ridiculously endowed. But because she has some awesome attacks. Kim Kaphwan (Fatal Fury, KoF)--Gotta support all the TaeKwonDo practitioners. Koreans rock! Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)--Slightly edges out Sub-Zero. It's all about the teleport punch. Vegeta (DBZ: Budokai)--Final Flash!........nuff said. Plus, he says stuff like "Curse you Kakkarot" Taki (Soul Calibur)--She's a ninja.......and that throw where slits there throats is pretty wicked bad. I'm not huge on Fighting Games, But I must say that Talim and Ivy were alot of fun to play in Soul Calibur II. Talim was my button mash friend, and Ivy was my practiced charecter.
If SBM counts than I usualy play Young Link or Zelda, but mainly just because I'm a LOZ freak. -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

My favorite fighting game character would have to be johnny cage from mortal combat,
i remember being in an arcade playing one of the mortal combat games(cant remember which one though) i had mastered how to execute johnny's instant kill combo. going undefeating for a couple minutes, against a group of kids who made bets with me that i would lose, after gambling against these kids i won $347 dollars total before i was kicked out of the arcade. Johnny Cage is my favorite because he is the only character that has earned me money ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I love moolah!!!!!!!!! -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Oh, Mortal Kombat characters still rank among my favorite fighting game characters. With all the hours I've pumped into MKII, I'm not surprised it hasn't broken down.
Johnny Cage always annoyed me for some reason. He had two projectile skills--a high-lobbed ball and a mid-lobbed ball--and the ballbreaker, which is as funny as it is stupid. That's not to say that Cage sucks or anything, because he can dish out the pain as much as the next guy, but it just took me thrice as long to get used to him, so I probably like him three times less. I remember doing a ballbreaker on Sheng Tsung when he was morphing into Mileena, and it froze the game up. ![]() -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Hwoarang (Is that first A meant to be there? Man, I'm tired) of Tekken 3 was the definitive character for me. Tekken 3 was the second videogame I ever owned (Yeah, I got into gaming late) and something about his description in the manual drew me to trying him out. Well, he was fun. The stances, the kicks, the ability to play defensively if need be, the juggles... I've never found a beat-'em-up character I've been more comfortable and able with.
That said, an honourable mention goes to... erm... okay, I can't actually remember his name, but that monk guy from Virtua Fighter. Lei-Fei? He was a bald buddhist monk, similar premise. |

Iori (KoF)= The first time I saw him, I thought "he's definitely bad"
Kyo (KoF)= Just because he's the "Ryu" of KoF, doesn't mean he's nice. He's actually a mean punk Rugal (KoF)= A fighter can dress better than Donald Trump and kill with style Geese (KoF)= His style is too cool for words Mr Karate (SvC)= With the mask, he's so strong he has no need of a super meter! All SFIII: Third Strike characters = I can't pick one, they're all awesome Genjuro (SS2)= Better than Haohmaru, violent, and all around badass bad guy Kim (KoF)= He's insane! See the twinkle in his eye when he beats Chang and Choi? Yamazaki (KoF)= A real madman and killer, I can't get over how he fights with one hand in his pocket Slayer (GGXX)= A very classy vampire, and he calmly relaxes when defeated. Chun-li, for sure. Brings back some great elementary school memories. Watch the boys gape in shock and awe as the girl kicks their asses - with a female character. *gape* *shock* *awe*
And then there's Sub-Zero. He's just always been the epitome of kickassness for me. Next, in no particular order, are Tekken's Nina, Seung Mina from SC1, and Ivy from SC1/2. All three are my button-mashing goddesses, Ivy's outfits are just awesome, and I've always wanted either a glaive-type thing like Seung Mina had, either that or Valentine. Next is Raphael from SC2 (cocky badass blond boy with a rapier = fangirly squealing), and then Kirby (Super Smash Brothers) brings up the rear. Who knew that a little pink ball of fluff could cause that much mayhem? ![]() |

Wheeeeee...my top 10 would be...
10: Anna Williams of Tekken 3. Truthfully I only liked her in Tekken 3 with her tiger outfit, but her moves were kickass in that game for sure. 9: Keiya of Evil Zone. I like the 'evil Japanese buisnessman' look he holds and also enjoy the archane magic. 8: Spinal of Killer Instinct. Odd choice? Well good! I like Spinal, all that evil cackling. 7: Talim of Soul Calibur fame. She is another character I pick for her incredible speed. She can slash up anyone easily even in the hardest mode. 6: Hwoarang of Tekken fame. He is by far the best Tae Kwon Do fighter of any fighting game game I've played (and that's a lot). 5: Ken from Street Fighter series. Over Ryu and Akuma I find Ken the best of the 'karate guys'. He's classic in himself, but his Shoryuken is by far the best of the batch. 4: Uriko of Bloody Roar 2 onward. I usually favour female fighters not so much for being female, but for speed. I usually always take speed over power/reach. But hey, Uriko is still pretty cute too. ^^ 3: Seung Mi Na of Soulblade. She seemed toned down in following games, but in the first she was as solid as a rock. 2: Scorpion of the Mortal Kombat series. He is classic, and my number 1 choice for beating the first MK. But even after that, I think of all the 'Lin Kuei ninja' he has the best character. 1: Felicia from Darkstalkers 3/Pocket Fighter. I think she's great. Her cute yet ditzy character and great power paired with awesome speed and great moves. Shes thus far character queen! -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

Honorable mentions to Axel and Blaze (Streets of Rage 2), Lee Chaolan (Tekken), and virtually all of the Street Fighter cast.
10. Gilius Thunderhead (Golden Axe) - Little dwarf kickin' arse with a huge axe! 9.Sub Zero (MK) - The whole freezing thing pretty much. 8.Kunimitsu (Tekken) - She fights like Yoshimitsu and looks cool & mysterious. 7.Terry Bogard (KoF etc.) - So energetic... and hoorah for guys with long blond hair! 6.Rax (Eternal Champions) A cyborg Thai-boxer! He looks awesome and owns in the game. 5.Mai Shiranui (KoF etc.) - On hotness and personality a bit more than on gameplay. 4.Rock (KoF etc,) - Similar to Terry and his school, but Rock has this weird elegant yet savage aspect to him. Awesome character design. 3.Cammy (SF) - The crazily acrobatic and small yet tough minded gal. 2.Ken (SF) - Props to Ryu too of course for the shared attacking brilliance, but Ken has the wild ambition as personified through his uber long Dragon Punch. 1.Chun Li (SF) - Even in the 1rst SF2 she could dominate with carefully placed basic moves, and she got better and better. She has the unique look that you could never forget. .... and, she's #1 also because .... ![]() This post has been edited by Ejoty on 29th October 2004 20:55 -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

I almost started a new thread for a fighting game discussion, but I decided to just revive an oldie. I am a total junkie; SF 2 Turbo was the reason I bought a SNES, and without having done so I never would have been introduced to the likes of Chrono Trigger and FF III/VI. So here goes:
10. Mai Shiranui from Garou (Fatal Fury) and King of Fighters. I sort of half-despise the blatant sexuality in fighting games, but Mai deserves mention because she was truly the inspiration for all the other voluptuous scantily-clad female ass-kickers. Plus, come on, she's super-hot. *salivates.... 9. Jann Lee from Dead or Alive. The best Bruce Lee tribue ever (sorry Marshall Law). The DoA has done an excellent job of keeping their fighters accurate to martial arts styles, and Jann Lee does some very believeable Jeet Kune Do. Plus, he's a combo-freak with tons of excellent launchers and counters, real fun to play as. 8. Lei-Fei from Virtua Fighter. For all of the martial arts in fighting games, this is the only actual monklike character I've ever seen. That and the fact that he does an accurate shaolin style in beautiful VF action is something very impressive and fun, if you can get around the sort of pretentious VF controls. 7. Jin (or Shin) Long from Bloody Roar. Good character design and graphics are probably the only really good aspects to the extremely cliche-ridden Bloody Roar series (look at Xion and Uriko and try to not call them overdone), and Jin Long is way more badass than the series' wannabe-mascot Yugo. Think Citan from Xenogears (without the sword) except he transforms in to a were-tiger to kick more ass. Actually, that analogy is sort of eerily accurate. Jin Long 6. Faust from Guilty Gear. You have to see him fight to believe it. Faust is one of those "was evil and now wishes to atone for his ways" characters, but he is also a paranoid schizophrenic who escaped from a mental instituion and wears a paper bag over his head. His bizarre style makes him the Voldo of Guilty Gear, and also one of GG's most fun and effective fighters. Great character design. 5. Raiden from Mortal Kombat. I think he was supposed to be an evil character originally, but he's been made in to a more benevolent (but not less cool) character as the series has moved on. Somehow, past all of the ninjas and monsters and cyborgs, it was the white-clad thunder god that was the most appealing and badass of all the somewhat grim fighters. 4. Nightmare from Soul Calibur. Going from the cocky knight Siegfried to the twisted Nightmare is one hell of a transformation. You watch one match featuring this guy and you know he is never satisfied with a KO. He toes the line between badass and just frightening; Mitsurugi is no longer SC's poster boy. This is the guy people want to see in the opening FMV. 3. Demitri Maximoff from Darkstalkers. Not only is my second favorite Guilty Gear character (Slayer) an obvious clone of this guy, he is simply one of the premier badasses in gamedom. His crazy grin and brutal yet non-savage (civilized isn't a very useful antonym there...) technique sets him apart from the likes of Nightmare and Akuma. With his more aristocratic bearing, he's some unholy matrimony of Superman, Dracula, and James Bond. Awesome. 2. Chun-Li from Street Fighter. Hail to the queen! I prefer the Third Strike version, because there her movelist actually has flow and sense to it. Not only is she a graceful fighter, she is one of those characters who is honorable and beautiful rather than curvaceous and slutty like Tina Armstrong, Nina Williams, Mai Shiranui, or dozens of others. 1. Ukyo Tachibana from Samurai Shodown. Not only is he one of the best fighters in the series, he is very well-characterized, fighting with his Zatoichi-style straight sword (I think it's called Lai or something). His character combines the awe-inspiring speed and power of Li Mu Bai with a love story both sad and sweet. The fact that he is visibly ill and depressed when you fight him makes you even more embarassed when you lose to him and somehow gives Ukyo a little more personality. The coolest, and one of the cheapest, fighting game characters ever. EDIT: hehe... I used the word 'badass' four times.... Add to my list Axl Low from GGXX. He's my best character... I love how I can mess with anyone's mind with the longest pokes in the game, and the absolutely uber auto-counter. His style is just so... Axl... there's no word to describe it. Even better, he's based on Axl Rose, one of the coolest rockstars of all time!
