Played any good ROM hacks? Ever?

Some of my favorites include FF3 Omnispoof and Super Monkey RPG (both available at www.zophar.net). FF3 OMnispoof, though childish, was very funny, and SMRPG is the best ROM spoof I have ever played. It re-writes the entire plot of the game! If you've played any good (or bad!) hacks recently, post a description and link here, so others may enjoy (or point and laugh at) them! =^-^=

Unfortunately, nobody has ever made a hack which rewrites the scenario data.
 I've seen a few basic attempts, and I've made one for the length of a dungeon, but I've never come across any that remakes the whole game. That would be the best hack ever, and quite frankly, something I'm considering when I'll be done with my current FF6-related project.The best hack I've seen to date is Caesar's. Why? Because of design. It wasn't made using an editor, but by sheer hex editing skill. This is a real ROM hack. Not an edit. A hack. Combining data alterations and additional assembly code, it's the only full remake-type project I know of for FF6 that can truly call itself a ROM hack. Shameless plug for the C-man (...wait, on second thought, that sounds like some OTHER word... er, I'll abstain from calling him that from now on...), yes, but well-deserved. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Thanks, I appreciate it (both the discontinuation of that word, and the shameless plug)! As for the hacks, I downloaded AwfulFantasy and it was one of the worst thigns I have ever seen. A disgrace to all ROMhacks out there. However, there was ONE decent FFVI hack that I played: FF3:eternal crystals, by Makou Eyes, I believe. It was from this hack that I got my Dark Cecil sprite (with some palette editing and with his permission, of course). He also included Black Mage, White Mage, and Kain (replacing Strago, Relm, and Edgar, respectively). It limits the availibility of magic for most characters and was an enjoyable play. That is the closest to a true hack that I have seen...well...besides mine, but that doesn't count.  -------------------- Is PJ |

I liked the omnispoof too. more thought out than awful fantasy, and less disrespect towards furrys. Nope, that's all you need.

I didn't mention Caesars 'cause it's not completed yet.. even though it already blows all others away. =^-^= And yes, Awful Fantasy was terrible. The constant insulting of furries.. I know we're always gonna take a little flak, but that game just went to darn far.

I haven't played Awful Fantansy, and I probably won't (Furries deserved all the flak they got in it, I'm sure, however). I'm sick tired of hearing whining and complaining about it in every single thread in which ROM hack comes up lately. So I'm just going to go ahead and close any thread in which it comes up from now. :-) If you think it's so bad, why even talk about? You're just giving it more attention. i got the ips patcher, but how do i use it? as you can tell, im not all that good with computers. but i know that the cd drive is not a cup holder. seriosly, i've seen people like that.
