Far too old to deal with a good number of idiots around here. Beyond that, you could always try the calendar.

I don't understand the poll.

Are you asking us what our age is, or what we think the average age of everyone is?

You're still not answering the question. Is the poll to find out

a) How old every person is?
b) How old every person THINKS someone should be to come here?

It can't be both. Answer or closed.

I'm pretty sure HE wants to know the average age of the members, so he's asking us what OUR age is so he'll know how many are how old.

Meh, I figure it wouldn't make much sense to ask us what the average age of posters here is, but that's a little confusing either way. I voted 20-25, as it falls within my age group.

Just out of curiousity, which option would someone who's 20 or 25 pick? wink.gif

If you're five, well, I'd bet you wouldn't be posting on an Internet message board such as CoN. Just a hunch. Actually, most boards out there - and probably this one too - don't allow members under 13 or so, so it might be unwise for anyone to choose 6-10 and admit to it...unless of course they really DO think that's the average age group here. biggrin.gif

I went for 20-25 'cause I'm nestled right in there.

OK, then. Generally, I've found myself growing a bit tired of the middle-teenage set who comes here. There are more than a few people here in the middle of their teenage years who are really great and I consider to be friends - there's no need to name names here; generally, you all know who you are and frankly can feel free to ask me if you want to know what I think of you smile.gif. But it seems that every day we get more people who can't spell or don't try, create threads just because they love to see themselves post, comment on every other post in a thread, and generally create more work for me trying to keep the mature, intelligent posters from seeing garbage and leaving. It gets frustrating from time to time because I can't simply ban people without looking like a fascist jerk, but I can't let them continue posting at the expense of members widely considered to be more beneficial to the community at a whole.

That said, in a utopian CoN community I would love to see everyone be 18+. Statistical irrelevance of your poll aside, I'll choose 20-25, though. Realistically, I don't want everyone to be 18 before they come here, because as I've said many times before the site and forums are meant to be family-friendly (not chat, though blush.gif ). I'm happy accepting everyone over the age of 13, provided that they can participate and fit in here without ruining everyone else's time - I don't plan to change that. Additionally, you really never can tell who will act like an idiot at 15 but by 16 will be an intelligent, mature asset to the community and hopefully the world at large. There are success stories to be found along those lines as well, and those people know who they are too.

So, to sum up, the best age to be at CoN is any (though generally above 13 until COPPA gets sorted out once and for all by the government). Physically. But in the way a user presents him or herself, the best age to be is one where we can't tell how old you are just from the way you post. The best posters are intelligent, well-spoken, humble, and interested in more than just their own opinions, and a person can be all those things at most any age, I believe.

And I edited your poll a bit so at least the question seemed to match more of what you were asking.

I am only 16, yet I think my wisdom is high enough to have disscussions with the other members of CoN. Sadly, a lot of people are coming on our boards thinking this is just like a normal and crappy FF forum...

I have yet so investigate in more important stuff

R51 is right on the person's maturity, you can never tell the age of someone by it's attitude. On another forum, the wrost poster on there was posting non-related messages, and also he wasn't even able to use his brain only a bit... I was ready to bet that he was 12 or lower, but I red a message of his saying he was 17. blink.gif

Well, to answer the NEW poll ("what SHOULD the average age be?"), I would say 10-20. Yes, I'm aware that that includes the typically-immature young teens that R51 speaks of; however, I see people in that age group needing the walkthroughs and databases more than someone of, let's say, 24 years. I doubt people above 20 would need to use the walkthroughs, as they've probably beaten the games many times over, and it would be a waste of the staff's time if the walkthroughs weren't used.

This brings up the issue of younger members being able to find the walkthroughs. laugh.gif I guess it could go either way, really, but I have always considered this site to be for the younger crowd, since it IS family-friendly, after all.

Just for the record, I'm 16.

Given my memories of my teenage years and the experience I have with teenagers now, I'd say that most teenagers could make meaningful contributions to the board if they tried. So, I guess I'd set that as the lower age limit; I don't think that anyone younger than that would really fit in.

Although I myself am 16 I find most others around my age, particularly the ones I encounter in the place I call reality to either be idiots, disgraces, or just plain aggrivating. I find myself constantly explaining whatever i'm talking about. It becomes a nuisance after a while. So while I'm 16, i'd go for a limit of at least 18, but preferably 20. Because in all honesty, most people are idiots.

But really if it was up to me it wouldn't be an age thing. There would actually be a test to see whether or not you are intelligent enough to access the forum, if not the internet in general. Typing like a 12 year old/AOLer would be insta-fail.

I think that's a pet peeve of most educated people: proper spelling/grammar. Things like "you're/your", "were/we're/where", misuse of the ever-versatile apostrophe ("I like to play game's." My biggest pet peeve. smile.gif ) shorthand ("how r u?"), improper spacing/ponctuation (ie, a 30-line post without a single line break or periode) etc.. Terrible grammar is another ("is the level to get?" huh...?)

Then again, not everyone's native language is english. Still, some of these are quite annoying and, unfortunately, tend to cause the poster to be judged as being of lesser intellect.

Well... that's hardly related to age anyhow. Pardon the off-topicness. Most people seem to have a pretty decent grasp of how to post here, though.

I voted 20-25, because that kind of people makes me feel fuzzy inside.

Unless somebody stabs me in the eye before September 24th comes around I'll be joining that catagory in the near future and almost everybody I hug on a daily basis fits in there.

Mad props to R51 though, he spoke well.

I voted 20-25, too. Generally, I don't really care about people's ages so long as they carry themselves in a civil manner and contribute, and it usually happens that the late teens and on deliver that service more. I would have voted 18+ if the option was there, but I can round up, I s'pose.

And people who are sticklers for punctuation--no matter their education--are off-putting to me, since there are so few anymore who can't do it without putting in a subconscious "you suck!" along with it. =/

Aside from me and R51, I don't know of any other regular who's over 25.

As for me, I join the mental age bandwagon: I don't care about anyone's age, as long as they don't act like morons/idiots/basic_french_haters (you're free to pick your favourite) on a regular basis. I act the very same way with people I meet IRL, so I don't see why I should act differently online.
