This is another one of those somewhat stereotypical RPG characters, the old dude who looks after the usually much younger characters. Sometimes it's a clueless geezer, sometimes a dirty old man, the possibilities are endless. I figured on this board the first three choices will dominate the poll no matter who else I was to put on it, but there are tons of other choices, of course.
Oh, and the best geezer character ever has to be Drachma from Skies of Arcadia. He seems like an uncaring gruff senior citizen after you meet him, but as you advance the plot you see that he is not nearly as hard-hearted as he lets on. I'll avoid spoilers, but I stand by my decision despite the awesomeness of the three SNES FF oldsters. Other great ones besides those four are Haschel from LoD, Gepetto from Shadow Hearts: Covenant, and Dr. Light and Dr. Wily from numerous Mega Man games. -------------------- |

My favorite wizzened old man is SilverLance.
...oh wait. Nevermind. Ok, but seriously, my favorite old geezers of all time are both from FFIV: Tellah and FuSoYa. Whether or not FuSoYa is an old geezer is beyond me (I'm too lazy to check; go figure...me lazy), but he's still up there with Tellah. They provided some comic relief with a hint of helpful insight and some kick-ass black magic. Clearly, anybody who can use Meteo in a final fantasy game early-game is definitely worth mentioning. Galuf is great, too, but seriously...he can't compare to Tellah. -------------------- Is PJ |

Tellah, FF4. He can (and can't..) use the best magic in the game, and he gave us the best one-liner of the series.

The old men in Final Fantasy aren't much of my favorites but anyways I'll give the prize to FFV's Galuf.. He was the most memorable old man over any other old men in Final Fantasy..
Possible spoilers: highlight to view He sacrificed himself to save his friends' lives and Krile's. That was very shocking and Galuf just became "popular" in FFV. He has alot more personality than Bartz, Reina, Faris, and Krile.. Tellah was stupid for having limited MP. Possible spoilers: highlight to view He could use Meteo with only 90 MP?? Strago? Well, I like him alot more than Tellah only because of how cool he looks with his red cape. But otherwise, he sucks too. FuSoYa, who isn't is this poll, is alright.. He's my second favorite old guy. Bugenhagen looked hella funny lol.. He had no legs, so that's creepy.. I love old women better!!!11 |

Though I haven't played the game itself, I think FuSoYa is the coolest old geezer in FF if just by looks alone combined with magical prowess.

The End in MGS3 is over a hundred years old, so he gets my vote. Not only is he really old and still alive (he's photosynthetic), but he's the father of modern sniping, so that skyrockets him to first place. One hell of a boss battle, too, and it's become one of my all-time favorites.

Cyan from 6 because even though he was in his late fifties, he was still a robust samurai, and fit in nicely with all the other 13 heroes from that game. Plus, few other characters in the series had to deal with as much personal tragedy. He not only endured nobly, but managed to also channel his hate and sorrow into positive acts of heroism.

Tellah.

Tellah just strikes me as a close minded, arrogant, senile old man. Plus the fact that his stats suck, he doesn't have enough MP to be really useful, and he forgets all his spells.
Galuf, on the other hand, is quite cool. IMO, he's the only mature one out of the three. While the amnesia part was quite cheesy, Galuf was actually a useful member of the party. I can't really pinpoint it, maybe it's just the Galuf aura... O.O Strago... well, he was ok, if just a bit childish. But I like Galuf better. Cyan's 50 on the dot. Not someone I'd call a "geezer" quite yet, but to each their own. Outta the list, I have to go with Galuf. Otherwise I'd back up Shotgunnova's vote for The End. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. A lot of people are judging from game power. From that perspective, I must hand the vote to Tellah. However, when you judge by sheer personality, Galuf wins hands down. He was just a lot more fun than either Strago or Tellah, though they have their moments.

Seeing as this is in General Gaming Chat, I'm gonna go with someone outside of the FF series, and that'd be Samos of the Jak (& Daxter) series. Simply the grumpiest old man in any game I've ever played.

I like Tellah too, his personality and his thirst for revenge against Zemus are enough for being my favorite, oh talking about general geezers...

Well, if you're saying 'geezer', Tellah's the most 'geezer-ish', but from simply considering relatively old people in games, the best would have to be Galuf.
Personality, characterization, attitude, and one more spoiler that you'll know when you play the game. No, this spoiler has nothing to do with Aeris. I think tellah has it when it comes to sheer geezerness. Big white beard, grumpy, and forgets really important things ( now where did I put my spells?).

Tellah, definitely. I can't stand the other two.
And since this is a question about Final Fantasy, I don't think it belongs in this forum. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |
