No, what you are reading is 100% true! (And also 100% caused by the Sketch Bug, I think).

Read no more if you do not wish information to be spoiled!
~So, I entered Cyan's Drug-induced dream sequence with Celes, Locke and Sabin. After aptly defeating Wrexsoul, Celes was in her Magitek armor as Cyan talked to his wife and child. Yes, you heard me, she was in Magitek Armor, the same color as the one you get to pilot in the dream. Furthermore, I enjoyed watching herself get decapitated on that pole in the King's Throneroom. (She's too big to be in there, graphic glitches like the chocobo decapitation glitch occur)

After exiting the dream, she walked out of the bed in the Magitek Armor. So, therefore, she stole the magitek armor out of the dream. After entering the rest of the party (you know, when they all kinda... fuse together into one person that happens to always look like the first person in your lineup) she lost her magitek suit she worked so hard to attempt to steal from Cyan's drug-induced coma soul psuedo dream.

I believe this was caused by the Sketch Bug, as I have accidently triggered it twice and purposely triggered it twice now. Once when I was 8, twice purposely to see the results, and once recently right after recieveing relm. (It was even more so interesting than, Strago became a group of symbols, Locke vanished, Terra became Cyan, Strago became Terra, the enemies resembled regurgitated mashed peas, HP symbols became Headwear symbols, and this really kick-butt menu-color appeared that I've been trying to duplicate to no avail. It was like black but with a really nice tinge of gray that made it look metallic, with a nice looking light grey border. I loved it, until I won the fight and the game crashed...)

Yes, I am serious. I'm not the type to start lying about crap to gain attention, but I do enjoy telling people stories of the crazy retarded stuff that happens in any Final Fantasy when I start trying to purposely break the game anyway possible. Someone here has a link to a site that gave a list of a bunch of minor game bugs. I went out of my way to do a couple I remembered after reading about it. I believe a former topic I made today (the other one that starts with 'News Flash') was also one of the listed bugs.

Do not say this isn't possible, because I witnessed it with my own two eyes. My brother also saw this event take place. We laughed, we cried. I'd like to see one of the 'hackers' or 'mods' (whichever they perfer) try to see exactly how this happened. I have no knowledge of the coding of the game, and would really like to know how this was possible, although I personally think it was simple a graphic glitch that had came out of the Sketch Bugs I had activated previously.

MTek status is not solely limited to battle. There's a property a sprite can acquire that places it on a "vehicule" (such as a chocobo or MTek armor). Though map-related code is stuff I don't have much experience with, I'm quite certain the game would perform a check to see which statuses affect you when you leave the menu to reload the proper sprites (ie, Imp). Since your MTek battle status wasn't set, it would set the sprite as being normal.

The sketch bug can write just about anything to RAM, so it's highly probable that it had set Celes' sprite to MTek status, but not her battle status.

That's AWESOME! Too bad she couldn't keep it sad.gif. Anywho, Silverlance's explanation sounded pretty good.

Hmmm... I've never experimented much with the Sketch bug, maybe I should start... sounds like you can get some pretty weird stuff out of it (other than losing all your gamesaves, of course)

What does the sketch bug do

Essentially, if you sketch enemies that don't have sketch data associated with them (such as Veldt Gau), the game will grab a pointer to a section of memory that doesn't contain appropriate code and basically mess everything up, scrambling the memory.

It also works if you sketch an invisible enemy. This, I don't quite have an explanation for, but I'm sure one of our other resident ROM hackers would be able to explain it.

Either way, you can end up with a very messed up game. A scrambled inventory (sometimes with goodies) is very common, as are bad graphical/palette bugs.

Code
Order switch in Magitek armor at Cyan's soul causes it to reappear with
Wrexsoul's death -

At the third part of Cyan's Soul, you get to pilot Magitek Armor in an unknown
cave area.  Whoever is the leader of the party will get MagiTek Armor on the
map screen.  If you switch out leaders, however, the previous leader will still
technically have the MagiTek Armor vehicle.  This becomes evident at the ending
cutscene of Cyan's Soul after you defeat Wrexsoul; all of the party members who
weren't in the lead at the end of the MagiTek Armor portion, but took the lead
sometime during that part, will show up in MagiTek Armor at this time.  Simply
switching someone into the lead and back without leaving the subscreen,
however, won't trigger the bug.

If something strange happens, while blaming Sketch is nice, there could be another cause. That's what that guide is for.

As for Sketch, either hit up the Bugs guide or click here for more details and lists of the goodies that can be retrieved.

Hardly surprising that Master Zed would have the answer to that one. wink.gif Sometimes I'd consider wagering that our silent resident veteran ROM hacker has the answer to everything. Then I just nod to myself and mumble "42" knowingly, and feel a little more on par with the rest of the universe. happy.gif

I would think you could force the bug to happen by putting an LDA 0x?? (any value with bit 7 turned on should do something) at C2:F5EA, but I'm only guessing. Of course, this means EVERY attempt to use sketch would trigger the bug, but that'd be the whole point anyhow. smile.gif Then again, it's not like it's hard to cause the bug to occure.

...huh? How the heck do ya suppose THAT happened? Was it actually four TERRAs (like attacks and everything) or was it just four other characters that all had the Terra sprite? Either way, it's still weird.

It happened the same to me. ( keeping the MTek Armor), I just laughted, but never though too deeply about that, maybe I switched party leaders. Oh, well.

Thanks, MasterZed!!

That's def it, because I remember thinking "I wonder what Celes and Locke look like in Magitek Armor..." (Sabin was lead character - already saw him in it way back when) so I went through the process of switching around my characters, looking at all of them in every view for fun, switching them back and forth.

This also account for the fact that I died trying to fight the Magimaster about 10 minutes later and forgot to save, had to defeat Wrexsoul again, and the bug didn't occur.
