I've played through this game four or five times, and I've found this to be the best way by far to learn Limit Breaks. Keep in mind that one learns the first limit on the second and third level (Blade Beam and Meteorain for Cloud) by defeating large quantities of enemies. One learns the second limit on the first, second, and third levels (Cross-Slash, Climhazzard, and Finishing Touch for Cloud) by using the level one limit several times. For specific information of how to obtain limit breaks, check the FF7 guide right here on CoN - it has all of the details you'll need.
First, have everyone in your party who needs to learn some level 1-3 Limits in Fury status, using Hyper items. Second, go to the forest area outside of Rocket Town, where you should encounter Search Crowns (red and white mushroom-looking things, I think that's what they're called...) and Valrons (purple Gargoyle-ish enemies) in either groups of six SCs or five SCs and a Valron; more than three quarters of your battles will be in those groups of six. Since you fight such a high quantity of not-very-tough enemies, you can easily have one character take out five or six enemies at a time with one Beta, Trine, Aqualung, or multitargeted level 2 magic attack and learn the limits that require tons of kills super-quick. Also, having so many mushrooms four-laser you in abundance should build up the meters of your Fury'd characters, allowing you to to quickly learn the limits that require use of other Limits. So yeah, in conclusion, use the forests outside of rocket town to learn limits. Lots of easy, weak enemies that are still strong enough to build your meter up inch by inch. It took me less than an hour to have all of my characters learn all of their level 3 limits plus Cosmo Memory and Great Gospel immediately after getting Cid. -------------------- |

It has been about 5 years or more that I brought the game and I can tell you taht I'Ve been training my limits there because it's teh best spot possible. It's also a fast way to reach 30,000 Gil in order to buy the Gold pass at Gold Saucer.
Beta s hard to obtain at that point of the game and this is just after you fight materia keeper. I always learn trine from him so it's extremely useful to have a 600-800 dam(all targets)/Almost never misses/20MP spell taht early in the game. Speed plus materai s very useful if you don't want to waste time. If you are in a hurry use this setup: Mega-All Fury Ring Highest hit % weapon As many speed plus as possible (or until you reach 255) That way you will automaticly kill all enemies in battle which will make you gain limit levels fastly. -------------------- Sayonara |

Nice combo, Zodiac. A side-effect of trying to learn Great Gospel is the other characters in your party get their limits fast too... since you're working Aeris to death.
Most forest do contain the SC's they must have a higher encounter rate at rocket town. This post has been edited by Musashi on 7th July 2005 21:08 -------------------- Snaaaaaaaaake! I'm flying! Wheeeeeee!!! Oro? |

the single most effective function of the game for learning limits is aeris' fury brand, period.

Aeris doesn't do much damage dealing even when I make her part of my rotation, and she needs to kill 80 enemies if she wants to learn BOTF and another 80 if she wants to learn Planet Protector. When it comes to cheap and easy kills, the woods near Rocket Town is the place to be. -------------------- |

fury brand is only level 2 -- and considering both that matra magic is the first eskill that can be learned in the game and aeris has the highest magic stat, it should be possible to have obtained fury brand *way* before rocket town. when searching for yuffie in the woods before junon, there is a relatively common monster formation with 5 livewires. and the birds come in 3s, as well. hell, in my recent playthrough, she had 2/2 before leaving midgar -- and that's before matra.
edit: at any rate, i'm just adding an important piece of information, not saying that your method is ineffective in any way. This post has been edited by gozaru~ on 8th July 2005 02:17 |

Limits are learned by killing enemies?, I used to fight Midgar Zolom to get limit breaks and use them, I though you learned it by using it constantly...

Uh, I might be missing something, but you can start learning those limits easily as soon as you get out of Mythril Mines. I just equip the Choco-Mog summon and go fight Capparwires in the forests; since they are generally weak and come in fives, it doesn't take too long to fly through the limit tiers and get all of the skills.

Little bit of both, actually. The first half (Level 1-1 (which you start with), 2-1, 3-1) are earned by killing enemies. The second half (1-2, 2-2, 3-2) are earned by using the first limit a certain number of times. And, well, 4-1 limits require a special item. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

even though it took a long time for me, i had everyone on level 3 due to the amount of hypers and times i had used healing items
and it limit order goes like this use 8, kill 80, use 8, kill 160, use 8, use item but vincent is kill 80, kill 160, use item This post has been edited by Sephiroth Slayer on 10th July 2005 23:10 -------------------- And so he slayed Sephiroth...and that was the end |

According to both KM's faq and the CoN website, all the characters but Vincent and Cait Sith learn their second limits in differing numbers, but typically it requires one less use to learn a second limit as you go up in limit levels. In short, nope. -------------------- |

i usually get my level 3 limits at the chocobo ranch area before the mythril mines
because i just find the game easier if i get my characters up to level 20 right there in every game of FFVII i've played i've gotten the lvl 3 limits for everybody but aeris there; cloud, barret, tifa, redXIII and then after the mythril mines i take the time to get yuffie and get her lvl 3 limits outside of junon/fort condor as well as aeris'. then after i get cid i use the rocket town forest trick for him and vincent so basically by taking all that little extra time. i have everybody's level 3 limits right after you get the tiny bronco, and also they have nice levels (usually around 36) and that makes the temple of the ancients, as well as the rest of the game, a breeze -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I have to level my limits to at least level 2 usually 3 or the game doesnt seem right , i dunno why it just doesnt. I always though you learned the limits by fighting enemies because i train in midgar alot to get to about level 18-19 before i leave midgar and i usually have all of the level 2's by then.
