karasuman, it was stated earlier in this thread that Amano did NOT draw those. Besides, even if we didn't know WHO drew them, it looks nothing like Amano's style.

She never said she thought they were Amano, just for the record.

I think what she meant was that although she views Amano's work as really bad (and I disagree so much it hurts tongue.gif), this guy's/gal's/whatever's work has managed to be much worse.

Edit
Uh-oh. I was beat to it.

the ones off FF4 must have been the original skeches but they cant have made them look that real because FF4 is all pixelated, thank god they didnt look like that...

If you mean the ones in this topic, no; they're NOT the original sketches nor anything official from the makers of the game.

Oops, my bad, I thought she meant that it was really bad, even for Amano art (in her opinion). Sorry 'bout that.

Jesus, those are really awful. It's like a crappy artist ate and subsequently vomited my favorite ffiv charactors. What is with that awful cid! It hurts my mind's eye to mearly think about it.

Or without much regard to the game, period. I mean, are those dreadlocks on Cain's head? Did Gilbert's/Edward's harp morph into a sitar?

It seems that Edward jammed on his sitar/shamisen(sp?)guitar/whatever in the original Amano character sketch.

Edward chillin and with his instrument

(Yeah, I linked off site, but that pic was better quality than what's available on CoN)

Ah...I could've sworn there was a variant of that same sketch with a harp.

Well, to backpedal: Did Gilbert's/Edward's sitar morph into a harp and then back into a sitar?

And that's me covering my rear...badly.

That's...differient. I never thought of Kain having braids and green armor. And Edward's baggy pants... yikes.

Through some rather thorough elimination of contributing artist's names in several NP issues, I've deterimed that the artist must be Terada Katsuya, who is known to draw comics for Dark Horse and covers for Marvel, but is perhaps best known as the character designer for the anime Blood: The Last Vampire.

Compare:

http://www.catsuka.com/interf/insolite/terada/terra037.jpg
http://www.catsuka.com/interf/insolite/ter...haracterz04.jpg
http://www.catsuka.com/interf/insolite/ter...vdbox_cover.jpg

I can't see the comparison. Not only do the images linked here look more modern, but the quality is better and the figures even seem more realized.

While I actually feel the FFIV figures have some artistic merit, they actually look kind of generic and...rather cheesy tongue.gif (I keep thinking the '70s for some reason).

At any rate, if Katsuya is capable of the art displayed in these links, I don't see how he would embarrass himself with those FFIV interpretations.
