Allright, im writing this because I'm in a good mood due to the fact that I just aquired the mage summon. YOU NEED A ROM FOR THIS TO WORK! Allright, well, the easiest way to get a summon, is to go to an area where you encounter a summon enemy. I'll use mage for an example.
How to get Mage easier: Allright, beat Dark Imp first, then reach the savepoint nearest to the beginning of the cave. Go outside of the save point room. And make a save state. Run around until you encounter an enemy. if it's not two mages, run away. After this, overwrite your previous savestate. Then, get in to another battle, if not two mages, run, then savestate again. Continue making a savestate after each battle. If you finally encounter two mages, kill them, if you dont get a mage, reload the savestate you made before the mage battle(You save after every battle before this) Do not overwrite this save. Keep loading it and killing the mages over and over again. Once you finally obtain a Mage summon item (30-40 battles) Save your game, and overwrite the savestates. Enjoy your new Mage Summon! -------------------- Ff7 current game progress:Just finished the underwater reactor, on to rocket town! |

Sounds good in theory, I'll try it out and confirm...

This is a clever trick, Bulbonius. This could work for all of the 1/64 items, like the Dragoon Lance, or the ever elusive Pink Tail. If you read the topic 'I hate Pink Puffs', someone tried a similar trick, but they saved just before the last Pink Puff died, and get the same common item every single time, leading others to theorize that dropped items are predetermined. Your technique, however, uses the save point before the battle starts, which leads me to believe that the dropped items aren't determined until the battle starts. You should try and see if you can get other rare items. I would try myself, but I'm too lazy. Good luck!
Imagine the lucky gamer who gets the Mage summon without even knowing what it is. I got the Bomb one time years ago on the moon, and that was really cool. -------------------- Cannis Rules: Balance of Power - My favourite Yuri's Revenge Mod |

I'd do this w/cockatrice. Get it for young Rydia and she can kill anything all on her own 'cept bosses. How can you not love seeing toddler Rydia casting instant death spells?

I got the Imp summon once upon a time but never any of the other "secret" summons. Is there an easy way of getting them for us non-ROM players?

Quote (bad andy @ 17th July 2005 03:59) Is there an easy way of getting them for us non-ROM players? Sure, it's called a game genie. ![]() That aside, there's no trick to earning rare items faster. You could overclock your SNES and go through fights faster, but let's not be absurd... -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

How about locations as to where one might obtain these summons? Can I fight any type of Imp/Bomb/Bird/etc or do specific breeds give you the summon?

Imp comes from any battle with an imp. I'm not sure if Imp Captain, Dark Imp, or Tricker work.
Bomb comes from a battle with any one of those bomb-like monsters EXCEPT bomb itself, which never drops the item. I think the birds are limited similarly, although I don't know how. And, obviously, fight MindFlayer (a.k.a. Mage) to get the MindFlayer/Mage summon. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! You can get a Cockatrice summon from the actual Cockatrice enemy, but you can not do this in the original SNES cartridge (as the summon has been dummied) unless you use a game genie (in which case you can use the item switch code to give yourself all of the dummy items and test them to see which is the summon). -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Has anyone ever actually used these summons? I remember getting an ()Imp around level 80+ at once point, giving it to Rydia, and found myself blown away by the awesome power of this summon (a whopping 3 damage on a cockatrice!)
You'd think that, for being such a rare item, it'd do reasonable damage... ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

It appears that the 4 hidden summons are nothing more than novelties, although Bomb and Coctric are potentially useful if you can get them early in the game. Even those two have limited use, since Rydia soon departs after that point (Mt. Hobs I think is the name of the mountain).
Off the top of my head, Bomb and Mage do damage in the low-to-mid 1000 range. I love the fact that they're just one of the many easter eggs for you to discover, but it's too bad none of them are really worthy additions to your spell list. Off-topic: I think there's a reference to these hidden summons in the game. In the Land of Summoned Monsters, there's a monster who says: "some of our friends aren't behaving themselves in the upper world" or something to that effect. Could he be talking about these hidden Call monsters? I realize that it might sound obvious, but imagine how many gamers read this line and never realize what it means. I myself only clued in on my most recent playthrough. -------------------- Cannis Rules: Balance of Power - My favourite Yuri's Revenge Mod |
