Here's a question, then a speculatory question.

1. In the second screen of Narshe, just before the mines, where if you stand there, you can see Umaro, there's a bridge going all the way across right near the beginning. Is that a bridge you can walk across, or is it just there to look nice?

2. What happened to Narshe's people in the WoR?

There are two bridges in the second area. I don't think you ever have access to the first one, but the second one you have to cross to get to the snow field and Umaro's cave.

When you first get to Narshe in the WoR, Lone Wolf mentions that most of its citizens abandoned the place, probably 'cause of the monster infestation. Other than the two old guys, there's still the Beginners Classroom crew hangin' out, since they'll apparently "be [there] for you even if the world should crumble."

Narshe is basically a shadow of what it was... its in ruin just like its on world. The only survivor(other than the beginner's crew) is the owner in the weapon shop just after you break in with lock biggrin.gif

Monsters were bred as weapons in Narshe. That is always a risky proposition, and it's possible that they lost control of the monsters in the chaos after Kefka's ascention. At any rate, the result is as SilverFork said, the town was overrun.

It was an improbable place for a town to begin with. tongue.gif

Where in the game did it say that monsters were bred as weapons in Narshe?

Nowhere specifically, but it's something you take from the context of the game. For example, on the imperial raid in the beginning of the game, they use...uh....big...woolly mammoth...things (ugh, I'm suffering from memory loss here, can someone give me the name?) along with attack dogs, and they sick the Whelk on you in the mines. Due to shared monster sprites, I can't remember if you run across them later in the game, but the Woolly Mammoths don't strike me as a creature that's domesticated, and thus, probably something they use for the sheer purpose of attack.

I'll agree with that. I'd never thought about it that way. One of my personal theories was that Phunbaba used Narshe as target practice.

Nah, it makes sense when you think about it. When people fled, they locked up their homes in case they ever returned, and Arvis is the only person who DIDN'T leave, therefore his house is unlocked. Why would you want the other houses to be unlocked, so you could take the loot? How do you think that would make the poor Narshians feel, hmmm? HMMMM??

I had never thought of the miners breeding monsters, but since Mag Roaders fill the caves later on, it makes a kind of sense.

No, no, no! he ment that the guards of narshe trained "monsters" to fight for them. I now this, for in the first part of da game, you face "guard", "lobos"(wolves)
and mammoth looking monsters. nuf said!

Shiva Indis has that background guide to the game's story, remember? As of now, she knows a hell of a lot of stuff we don't. So yeah, it's interesting to know that monsters were bred there as weapons? Cool.
