Help me oh wise forumers!

I recently got my hands on a GBA. Problem is, I don't know much in the way of GBA games. I already have Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. I've already plowed my way though Fire Emblem, so I'm looking for something else, preferebly in the RPG area, that is worth my money.

Does anyone have recomendations on great games for the GBA? I'd love to hear your opinons. Hurry too. School starts soon, and I dread being gameless. pinch.gif

The rerelease of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is worth it if you don't have the original or if you have friends who play it. The other Zelda games are also fun, especially Link's Awakening, but those are GBC.

The Golden Sun games seem like decent RPGs, though I haven't finished them yet.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a good game in the mold of Symphony of the Night, but harder.

Steer clear of Sword of Mana. It's a pain in the ass.

You have both FE games. Good work.

The only games I absolutely must recommend are the three Castlevania games. Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissoance, and Aria of Sorrow are all excellent, particularly Circle and Aria. Circle's the most difficult, Harmony's the easiest, Aria's probably the best total package (even if it's the shortest....) and also the most similar to SotN.

The only games that have really captured my interest on the GBA besides FE, Cv, and ports of old games (LoZalttp, TLoZ, FFDoS, and the Mario remakes come to mind) are The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Tatics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. Minish cap is a solid Zelda game even if it has fewer dungeons and more extra-thingies than most other Zelda games, MLSS is a really quirky and fun RPG, especially for Mario fans, and Tactics Ogre is a fun strategy game that does the classic series justice.

Tactics Ogre Gaiden is a great roleplaying game for the GBA. It's has similiar job classes and battlefield setups like FFTactics, but it's part of the Ogre Battle series, so it can still distinguish itself from other similarly executed games. It's really enjoyable and you can milk hours out of it.

You can also get "emblems" through battle actions which can go towards newer classes or stat power-ups. For instance, you can get a Centurion emblem (ATK goes up) by defeating every enemy on the battlefield with one person. I had a blast with it and I would actually rank it higher than FFTA or any Golden Sun game out there today. Check it out if you have the chance. wink.gif

I'd like to second Shotgunnova on his appreciation of Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis. This game is far much more interesting than FFTA, has multiple endings and a good amount of characters, but it's the battle system and its special classes that makes this game excellent. Not really hard to finish, but very enjoyable (kinda leaved me with the same impression I got from FFT).

Aside from what's already been recommended here, I can easily recommend the GBA remake of the original Shining Force game. Sega brand games are usually great, but then you get the gems hidden in there like Phantasy Star, Sonic, and of course Shining Force. I noticed you mentioned plowing through Fire Emblem, which makes Shining Force an even bigger must have for you.

Oh right, the GBA remake is called Shining Force: Ressurrection of the Dark Dragon. Not simply Shining Force, like the original. A bit of a footnote, if you check out the GBA one first, then check out the Genesis one, you'll notice quite a few distinct differences. But none that effect gameplay too heavily.

In fact, I recommend Shining Force: Ressurrection of the Dark Dragon to every person here that likes strategy rpgs, because it's just that damn good, the whole series is.

Golden Sun. A Link to the Past.

Quite frankly, that's all you need.

Go home.

My personal collection of GBA games remains small and unsatisfying, with about half of the games I actually wish I had. So just buy as I say and not as I do. I recommend:

Advance Wars
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Golden Sun
Zelda: Link to the Past
Pretty much any Super Mario port from the NES/SNES
Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
Chu Chu Rocket
Earthworm Jim
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Fire Emblem
Pokemon games, if you're into that sort of thing
Metroid Fusion
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Super Dodge Ball Advance
Wario Ware Inc.
And let's throw in those crappy wannabe Sonic games for the hell of it

Yeah, that's a pretty decent list. I'm sure there are other good GBA games out there that I just haven't played yet, but you can't go wrong with any of these. A basic rule to go by is that you'll have fun playing any ports of your old NES or SNES favorites. Hope this helps!

Thanks guys happy.gif

I'm definately pretty interested in this Tactics Ogre game. I haven't seen it anywhere, but If I run across it, I'll be sure to check it out.

I've been trying to find FFT, but no luck. Actualy finding any sort of old GBA game is a real challenge. I had to order HM off the internet.

Alas, I have at home a fully functioning SNES, with more games than you can shake a controller at, including LOZ, Link to the Past.
