To be totally honest, I like it. I finally got it and watched it. The movie's greatest aspect is the animation. It looks extremely realistic. The story was OK, I guess, but it could've been improved alot. I think the biggest part of the story that I didn't like was the fact that

Gray, Neil, Jane, and Ryan get killed. It would have been better if they had lived.

I think that if this movie would have been produced by a different studio and no connections whatsoever to Square, and all the details of everything else would be the same, the movie would have been received better. Why? Because people's expectations were way too high. It's their first movie, give 'em a break, OK?

If one went into that with Final Fantasy expectations, I don't see how one could fail to be disappointed. But even on normal movie standards... Well, it was pretty. The plot was kinda lame, in my opinion, and the pseudo-deep ending irritated me. I liked the theme song, though.

Not exactly the best of plots, no chocobos, magic or moogles, coupled with characetrs as dull as FF8, meant that it was a dissapointment that was a crime against humanity.

Ok, here is my outlook on the movie. It's a good movie, but it is a HORRIBLE finaly fantays movie. When I hear final fantasy, I expect magic, swords, and summons. I also expect a great story line with a superb villian with an evil nature. This movie had no outstanding final fantasy qualities that I could find, except a guy named Cid.

Now, does this mean I hate the movie. No, not at all. The movie was pretty good, and I eventually bought it for dvd. I just will never say it's a good final fantasy movie.

It's been awhile since I have seen the movie. So I don't really remember much of it. But I do remembering that I liked it! thumbup.gif

No good villain, no magic, no summons...well it's all been said but basically I don't really consider this movie final fantasy so I voted that I didn't think it was that good, I didn't think it just out right sucked but I didn't like it either.

Yes it sucked. I was like some Animated SciFi thriller, as opposed to a Final Fantasy. If they had done a REAL final Fantasy let's say i dunno, 4,6,or even 7 i would have hailed and worshipped it. No summoners, no swords, no Rag Tag Adventurers from various backrounds with the same goal in mind. ABSOLUTE CRAP

My rating: thumbdown.gif thumbdown.gif Two thumbs way down

Everyone died... except the two main characters. It was too obviously Hollywood. The story and the plotline were sufficiently "anime." Other than that, I wasn't too impressed. Apparently, like games, graphics in movies aren't everything either.

I didnt really like it. Like most of the movie had nothing t do with the games which really made me mad but, some of the action parts in the movie were pretty good.

I didn't really like the story of it, but the animation was great.

It was the worst movie I have ever seen. It's been a long time since I watched it so I can't remember the details, but I just remember disliking the entire futuristic and barren atmosphere along with the extremely lame characters. In typical fashion Square tries to wow the viewers with graphics while the story takes a backseat. That's the impression I got of the whole movie.

The graphics were highly technological (probably insanely expensive too) and I don't think any other movie maker has attempted to create realistic computer animation as of yet. I'm not talking about cartoonish stuff like Toy Story but animation that shoots for realism. The characters in Spirits Within almost looked like real people. If this becomes the future trend Hollywood actors may be out of jobs except for voice acting. smile.gif

Bottom Line: Exceptional graphics, terrible story and atmosphere.

I also thought Spirits Within was good, graphics on the border between human and Animated. However I didn't really see it as a Final Fantasy, although there was a Cid and Gaia.

I watched ten minutes of it at random points. It bored me every time unfortunately. I'm not sure what it was but nothing grabbed my attention at all. It just seemed so... dull.

They got the most unimportant thing right, the graphics.

I loved it. Sure, it wasn't much like the other games, but it had a very UNIQUE plot, even if it wasn't too complicated, an unexpected (but good) ending, and quality music/graphics/voice acting. It's one of my favorite sci-fi movies.

TOTAL Dissapointment

I was hoping something interesting from Square before seeing it, and I noticed while viewing that the concept is way too simple. And what was Square thinking at that time? "Hey it's going to be a movie with super high graphics so we should surely recover the 10 millions we lost making it... Even if MOST of our fans won't like it..."
Result, Square stopped making its good old games and merged with enix which was in the same sitution where both were making good games before. Since that day,my dissapointness jumps really high when I think of "SquareEnix"

bwt... I'm not even sure if I spelled those words correctly tongue.gif

I thought it was a good movie. I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi, but I grew up with it, and it was a good sci-fi movie. It had FF-esque characters (main, villain, and support), story, and plot. When I saw it for the first time though, I felt a little having a Final Fantasy on my TV screen without a video game controller in hand...

it would have been so much better if they hadn't titled it "final fantasy", because that just gave people all these expectations which weren't met at all (except for "Cid"...).

But even without that disappointment, just as a movie itself, it wasn't anything special. I don't even remember the plot all that much, but I just remember is being pretty simple and just kinda whatever-ish.

The graphics were pretty though, yeah.
