Argh! I decided to tackle the Fanatics Tower today (since it's the only story-wise thing I have left to do before Kefka's Tower), and since I haven't learned Life 3 or Ultima yet, I decided to defeat the Mage Master the long way ( Beserk, vanish, vanish, vanish, vanish, rasp, rasp, rasp yadda yadda yadda). I get him down to around 12000 mp (on my last scan) and decide to cast scan again. Instead of displaying "HP 50000/50000", it shows "HP 50000" with the last 3 digits in red instead of white. "Hmm, odd" I think to myself. Suddenly the screen goes black. I can stil hear the music, but nothing is happening on screen. 20 f'ing minutes down the drain! I know, I shouldn't be lazy, and 20 minutes isn't that bad, but it still ticked me off.
Just for the record, I'm playing the Jap. Famicom version with RPGOne's translation patch, and no, no cheats enabled. So I'm wondering, has this happened to anyone else? I don't know what happened, but if you want to kill Magimaster, just do the berserk spell, ( he's inmune to vanish) , and go with around 7000 HP and you can survive his Ultima, It's not that hard just level up a bit and equip a Muscle belt., by the way welcome to CoN.

Yup, Mog's strategy is the one I always use (except I Life3 myself to live through Ultima). Welcome to da Caves!

If you want to build HP, I reccomend having Bahamut equipped(well, its more of a duh, actually); if you have him on a character for 6 or 7 levels, by the time they reach Level 99, they'll have 9999 HP.

Ah, you can Equip Bahamut to increase your HP even more, normally you reach 5000 HP, around LV 58-60...you equip the Muscle Belt ( which give and extra half of HP) and then you have 7500 needed for surviving his Ultima, I don't know for sure if Shell helps on this fight, If you don't have patience to level up, get the EXP egg, which is found in Daryl's tomb, if you're even more desesperate, go to Dino Forest, and keep using Vanish/Doom on the Tyranos, and if you're even more desesperate, get a single Character level up....a eight times faster I'll say.

I never used any of those techniques- Flare, Flare, Flare, Flare, Flare, Life 3, Flare, Flare.

Well, I ended up going and learning ultima and life 3 on all my guys, but when I beat him, I forgot to cast Life 3. Whoops. Sabin survived with 103 hp.

We all make that mistake. Go out of our ways to do something to secure victory after a botched battle, forget to impliment it, and then survive my the skin of your fingernails.
