I saw it this afternoon and thought it was excellent. It had all of Miyazaki's trademarks: innocent love, unbelievable fantasy worlds, incredible artwork, entertaining characters, fans shouldn't be disappointed. I don't think I liked this movie as much as a number of other Ghibli films (just which one is my favorite? EXTREMELY difficult question...), but I would definitely recommend it to any fan of animated movies; you don't need to like anime to love Miyazaki, so see it. Another DVD to add to my must-buy list....

I saw it last friday and thought that it was great. It did have all of the 'usual' themes in Miyazaki movies, and they were all put together nicely. I actually enjoyed this one more than the last one (Spirited Away - but it was still great). My favorite part was when Howl goes, "What's the point of living if I'm not beautiful" and then throws that huge tantrum.
A must-buy when the DVD comes out. -------------------- Music is a mysterious thing... Sometimes, it makes people remember things that they do not expect. Many thoughts, feelings, memories... things almost forgotten... Regardless of whether the listener desires to remember them or not... - Shitan, Xenogears |

I saw it on the second day it came out (I had to go to Hollywood to see it though), and I like it, execpt that I wish the main character wasn't always a girl in his movies.

I actually went into the movie with no expectations, but came out disappointed...
There really was no character development and the plot was also quite lacking; for the first while sitting in the theatre I was really wondering where the story was going. Them falling in love seemed to happen with no real reason or purpose as well. Plot holes are rather common in Miyazaki movies, but I'm usually fascinated by the creative settings and ideas within the story (like in Spirited Away, I adored the bathing-house setting). However in Howl's Moving Castle, I found that nothing "wow"-ed me. The artwork was gorgeous and Calcifer was cool, but aside from that, it didn't really do it for me :/ That's just my input on it ![]() |
