I read it in PSM the other day and I just couldn't believe it, Hideo Kojima has officially announced that the works for Metal Gear Solid 4 (along with Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence and Metal Gear Acid 2) is in production. Kojima is in the dark about announcing the plot but so far Snake, Raiden (along with a baby so it seems), Meryl, Big Boss, Vamp, Otacon, Naomi and Ocelot are gonna be in it. What they do know is that it's gonna take place a couple of months after Sons of Liberty and, according to Kojima, the environment is gonna be that of which we haven't seen yet in any of the MGS games and he went on to say "And no it's not gonna take place in space or on another planet", that narrows it down. I find this suprising as I read Kojima once saying that he's really eager to work on another project besides Metal Gear, but apparently once he's done with this he's gonna pursue that with the new Konami-based company he formed. But I look forward to this, and MGS3 Subsistence (not Substance, Subsistence), which is like MGS2 Substance with the minigames and unlockable features. It's also revealed that MGS3 Subsistence will have an online mode where up to 8 players can either fight eachother in teams or (drumroll) 7 people, playing as guards, team up against fighting Snake, so it's a 1 on 7 match between you and 7 of the enemy soldiers who are being played as other people, if that's not great play I don't know what is. And as a bonus it will also include 2 other games, the NES Metal Gear and the MSX2 game Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, give it up for Old School! And oh yeah, MGS4 will be released for the PS3, hopefully, sometime in 2007.

Sufficient warning that I might say something series-spoilery...
I'm kinda surprised too that Kojima would want to make another one so soon, given how reluctant he's been recently. I'm actually curious as to how he plans to revive Big Boss since, y'know, the guy was toasted and burned to a crisp at the end of Metal Gear 2. Maybe he's planning to go the MGS1 route and just have his body play a part in the story (though I still don't get how that much of his body could remain in the first place). If he is somehow resurrected despite being a pile of ashes, I bet an IOU that's why Naomi's part of the character lineup (*hint* *hint*). And if the game's environment is supposed to be somewhere outside the MGS series, maybe there's a possibility of the return of Outer Heaven or Zanzibar Land. ...But I doubt that's what he meant. Wishful thinking. I'd have to say this is probably the game I look forward to the most for the PS3. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. *sigh*
Kojima is a traitor. He recently said he wants to make the future games for M$ rather than Sony (except MGS4). What a dumbass. He'll lose a shitload of money. He says that gamers will expect BEAUTIFUL games on the PS3, while on the 360 it will be more down-to-earth. other than what you guys have heard, i heard that the theme of this game is supposed to be somethin like "nowhere to hide." i think this might end up ruining the authentic MGS feel.

Oh Good Lord, no, that would be an insult to Castlevania.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view Anyway the art for Big Boss is quite wierd, his head looks normal but his body looks really slim, so it could be possible that his head has been kept alive and he was put on an android body. Keep in mind that at the end of MGS2 we find out the Patriots have been dead for 200 years, so the thought of someone who died being alive isn't quie a suprise in the MGS Universe This post has been edited by Bum's Rush on 7th June 2005 21:36 -------------------- |

Possible spoilers: highlight to view errrrr, big boss "died" way previous to mgs2. the one in mgs2 was solidus snake, a third (and secret) clone of big boss. big boss was supposed to have died at zanzibar land, but also remember that the us government took his remains in to custody for genetic experiment. so i guess they were abvle to revive him and he went crazy and got out of us custody or whatever. but i am disappointed. kojima was so adamant that mgs was a TRILOGY and 3 would be the last one. seems like he's just after the cash cow, now (if you've seen the mgs4 movie, you should notice it even better). I was also surprised with the annoucement of MGS4 i also read it in the PSM mag (best PS2 mag there is!) Yes the theme is "nowhere to hide" which to me sounds really dumb and is way off of the trilogy, BUT maybe because this is supposely a start of a new trilogy for MGS it will be completely different then any other MGS's. Unfortunately for MGS fans and Kojima this will ruin the MGS franchise.

I don't recall anyone saying that happened in MGS2. As I said before, that happened at the end of MG2 (Metal Gear 2). I've been meaning to update but forgot, anyway one of the previous PSM magazines elaborated on the "nowhere to hide" theme. Basically, you can't rely on a hiding spot all the time, you can be hiding behind/inside/under a truck and BAM the truck will start moving to another location, they can't see me behind these box crates, come back later, BAM, a crane has moved the boxes and rearranged them. Gaurds coming, better lean against this old brick wall and-BAM, the wall collapses and the guards see you. You have to keep on your toes and not become TOO reliant on hiding spaces, as we've always done in previous MGS series, so it makes more of a challenge to elude guards, this sounds pretty interesting in my opinion.

I've only tasted the series with Metal Gear Solid 3, but now that I've beat it, I'm definately going to buy the previous games. I don't really know much about the references and characters that came before 3 (and stuff's been spoiled to me at GameFAQs) but a new MGS4 game is right down my alley.
