It's that time of year again.
The time for fantasy football. =) Now while last year's didn't start until July, the fantasy football program on Yahoo's started running, so I suppose this could serve as an interest and discussion thread should anyone have questions. I don't run the thing btw, but an admin like Neal or Cloud can. ![]() Quote (SSJ_Cloud) What you do is select a number players from the NFL (QBs, RBs, WRs, etc), as well as a team Defense (Chicago's defense, San Fran's defense, etc.). You have a draft at the beginning of the season in order to pick your players (obviously, you'd want your first pick to be a Priest Holmes, Donovan Mcnabb, or Terrell Owens, etc.) Once you have your team, you can make roster changes all season long, to get rid of your players that are doing bad or injured, and sub in the ones that are hot in the NFL (as long as someone doesn't already have them on their team). You go head to head against other people in your league each week, and who wins is determined by how many points your team receives. If your quarterback throws a few TD's, your running back(s) has a strong game, your WR(s) do good, and your defense holds their team to a shut out (all of this in real life of course), then you more than likely are going to win that week. Also, I'm more than knowledgeable of my stuff now, so I shouldn't be the dead weight I was last year. -_^ Unless I get busy with life, of course... *crosses fingers* ![]() -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Really? Already? Man, I haven't even thought about football since the NFL Draft ended. Seems so far off. I guess we could take a tally and have people sign up, but I'd definitely hold off for a while on a draft.

Yes, that perversion of true football that emphasizes the mental strategy game over the physical one.

"What do you want me to do coach, what the strategy?"
"Smash his skull in, sonny." Yeah, watching it can be great fun when they're not having their bi-minutely rest, I just wouldn't know enough about it to play a fantasy team picking game. And don't make me laugh that much again. Now I have a stitch. -------------------- Whether you take the doughnut hole as a blank space or as an entity unto itself is a purely metaphysical question and does not affect the taste of the doughnut one bit. http://slightly-bitter.blog.co.uk |

If you're laughing that you think it's not much of a mental game, it's really not that true. As physical as it is and can be (especially along the line), on almost each and every down there's a tremendous amount of mental energy that goes into trying to decipher the defense or read the offense, and there're many subtle nuances to each position. It looks like a slow game on TV, but when you line up for the snap and the quarterback hikes the ball, you have to do more thinking in five seconds than most people have to do in ten minutes. Not everybody can actually be a passable football player, even if you are physically gifted. You simply have to have the mind and instincts for it.
"The Thinking Man's Game", they call it, and it's very true. If you already knew that, my bad. >.> Football is fastest and most fun to watch during the two-minute warning though. -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Dragon's Head * Completed... Change the topic title since this isn't about any sort of league any more. Or was it ever?
