Okay, I need to grab me a DVD burner for my computer. My current DVD player no longer fufills my needs. I tried getting a burner once, only to find out that it's not compatible with my motherboard. Something about a SATA and IDE and other big letters put together to make people like me go "oooh big letters together real close means shit I don't understand!"
So you guys tend to know your stuph about computers and why they hate us, so I figured maybe you guys could help. Like I said, I need a DVD burner and I just wanted to know what I should be aware of when buying one, so that the previous event does not repeat itself. -------------------- |

Really most any burner should just go right in, I guess... I'd need to know more about which letters and whatnot your computer told you before I could know what you're talking about. Whoever else posts after me will probably tell everything you need to know though, but you could also just take it to a store and have them put a compatible one in.

as far as I know, unless you have some really old computer (read: pre-zx spectrum) then any DVD burner aught to fit. However, if something tells you then something ain't compatible and that something is to do with IDE then there is a possibility that nothing will. My advice: take your PC to a shop like Zephir said, and if they can fit one in then do so, and if they can't then opt for an external one (your computer does has USB doesn't it?), which shouldn't be much more expensive. This subject may go into detail, and if you (or anyone else for that matter) are in need of assistance, I'll be glad to give some help through PMing or something.
